The Playstation 3.

Sony had 2 legends the psx, followed by the ps2.  Now here comes this $600 box thats and all in one system that only the hardcore fanboys want.  On top of that add in only 2-3 games worth buying, a free but unimpressive online network, and a massive price tag and you have failure.

The PlayStation 3 may go down as the biggest flop in Videogame history.

For the Record:  I own a Wii and a 360.  I also liked the PS 2.

I agree.  Out of all 2006 I think the PS3 really snatched up that "Biggest Flop" award right at the end.  That aside I'm not sure the point of the post, everyone knows it already.

So the numerous AA-titles that were released during 360's launch-window were not worth buying?

When Nintendo said they would revolutionize gaming, I thought they meant the games and how they play.

Not how they're marketed. :|

The PS3 wasn't a flop in 2006 since it was sold out for most of november and december. It would be more a 2007 flop, which it isn't, since it sold 3 million copies with no amazing games. The wii also has only 2 games on it that I want, and so does the PS3, and I don't care how much a system sells, since I plan to get all 3 anyway.

I see some cows feelings got hurt.  The truth hurts period.  All of the so called "great games" coming out on the ps3 are gonna be ported to the 360 because it's not going to sell that well.  I would be surprised if it sold 20 million in its entire lifetime.  Quote me on that.

If I had told a cow a year ago what was going to happen the first few months after the ps3 launch, they would have said that I was way off.  Let's face it, cows hyped this system to hell and it hasn't delivered on the hype.  The 360 costs $200 less, the Wii also costs hundreds of dollars less, yet those are the two systems that each have a AAA exclusive title?  Again, if I had told a cow that 7 months would go by and the ps3 would still be without a AAA exclusive, what would have been their response?

On top of that, some of the features that cows deemed as amazing are barely even talked about.  7 controllers is a flop, the browser is a flop, and motion sensing has not proved to be anything spectacular.  And bluray has yet to to add any major noticable differences in games.

Neowin.net - Resistance PS3 Game Uses 22 Gigabytes of Blu-ray Disc

Resistance used 22 gigabytes...far more than GeOW...yet GeOW is considered the graphical spectacle for the next generation..and out-reviewed Resistance across the board.

Maybe this is just me, but I find it a little bit odd that  a strong percentage of the games cows get excited for have already been released on the 360 months ago.  GRAW2, Oblivion, Fear, R6V, Fight Night...wtf?  $600 for old games?  And btw, DMC4, Virtua Fighter, Smackdown vs Raw on a MS console?  Reasons for shelling out $600 are fading fast.

Face it, so far the ps3 hasn't filled out the hype.  Maybe it will in the future...but only time will tell.  The only reason that Sony has sold as many ps3's as it has is brand loyalty......which is not reason enough for ME to buy a console.

Zelda wasn't dissapointing. It was only this site who thought that, so naturally the Gamespot-zealots all followed on and agreed. It just wasn't as good as Ocarina, but then again what is?

Here are some *real* dissapointments:

  • Sonic The Hedgehog [PS3, 360]
  • Enchanted Arms [PS3, 360]
  • The Godfather [multiplat]
  • Black [PS2. Xbox]
  • Far Cry Vengeance [Wii]
  • Superman Returns [multiplat]
  • Driver: Parallel Lines [PS2, Xbox]
  • Need For Speed Carbon [multiplat]
  • Just Cause [multiplat]
  • Scarface: The World is Yours [multiplat]
  • Ninety-Nine Nights [Xbox 360]
  • Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII [PS2]
  • Call of Duty 3 [multiplat]
  • Pantasy Star Universe [PC, PS2, 360]
  • Prey [Xbox 360, PC]

I agree that the biggest disappointment of 2006 was that there were only two games worth buying for my X360.

(Oblivion and Gears).

P.S. Tom Clancy games are crap.

P.S.S. So are tired WW2 shooters and lame sequels to lame racers.

ATI.  They've been lagging behind in the GPU market while Nvidia launches a brand spanking new amazing card series...  Pity when the R600 comes out, Nvidia will be on the 9x series...

That, and Resistance Fall of Man...

My biggest dissapointment of 2006 is the fast food attitude that society has.  Also there are so many stupid fanboy wars currently going on that its lame.  There are very little difference between most competing products yet stupid fanboys continue to act like 1 thing is vastly superior to the alternative.  In reality most of these things are currently similar or will be a wash in the future.  PS3/X360, Blu-ray/HDDVD, LCD/Plasma, Coke/Pepsi.  Who cares.  Quit trying to justify your purchase by running down the alternative.  Or if it is so important to you budget properly and buy both.

maybe because the "numerous" ps3 titles:

1. are less "numerous" than the 360's titles.

2. are not worth $650 + tax....

3. the majority of mulitplats look better on the 360, saving the gamers $200...:)

Please point out where I stated that AA titles on PS3 are not worth buying.

To me, Xbox 360, for the games that are currently out, isn't worth buying just yet. Same goes for the PS3 and the Wii.
Of course, the games themselves are worth buying if you have the console, the question is if the console is worth buying for the games.

600 bucks for a few AA-titles simply doesn't cut it. Xbox 360 sure has one or two AAA titles, but I don't find them interesting enough to make it worth the purchase...it's simply a to each his/her own situation.

Xbox 360 sure has one or two AAA titles, but I don't find them interesting enough to make it worth the purchase...it's simply a to each his/her own situation.

and what was the only game worth buying on xflop? GOW a YEAR after. and it that 400$ trash floped hard in japan

So the numerous AA-titles that were released during 360's launch-window were not worth buying?

How about Oblivion, GRAW, RSV and a bunch of other games?

Kameo, Call of Duty 2, Need for Speed: Most Wanted.  This list kind of goes on.

Because 360 has exclusice AA titles and most of all of the PS3 AA titles are better on 360. If cows are going to say why buy a 360 when all of its games are better on PC then what does that say for cows when most of the games are superior on the 360?

Yeah, makes perfect since if I was a supporter of the Xbox360. I mean whatever way you want to spin it. I don't care. I'm glad you happy now, because it going to get ugly later on...

Mine would be the PS3.  I had such high hopes for it, but they still haven't given me a reason to spend $600.

The biggest disappointment would probably be 100000 Red Rings of Death. I dunno, if my super-next-gen-best-console-ever died on me after less than a year I would be pretty disappointed.
