If you were in Sony's shoes what would you do?

If I were in Sony's shoes right now here's what I would do.

1)I would continue production of the 60 gb model and end the 80 gb model and bundle it with an HDMI cable and rumble sixaxis controllers

2) Pay many important developers too stay exclusive ,like Soul Calibur 4, Assasin's creed, Unreal tournament and amp up the production of first party games. I would steal alot of franchises. Like Bioshock and Dead or Alive. Have square make a remake of FF7 and have it exlusive only on the PS3 and strive to bring back old franchises like PowerStone and Panzeer Dragon have them all exclusive.

3) MAke sure Home has all the features of Live and more and try to keep it cheap or free and have nearly all my games online capatible or have some online functionality.

4) Work with developers to maximize full potential of games ( already doing this)

5) I would copy Microsoft on Customization of system.

6 ) More games will support High definition.

7) Cut the price by 50$ this holiday season on 60 gb.

All this would increase the userbase drastically which is really the most important thing right now.

And Haze comes out a week after for the 360 but its still considered as timed exclusive.

I think Sony should just have one SKU, the 60GB, at $499 and leave it at that. Instead of bringing in new SKU's they should focus on what they have now and work hard on making them cheaper faster.

Though a $399 40GB may actually be a good idea, going up to an 80GB and back to the $599 price point was not.

I would bite the bullet and wait for next gen.

Start cutting back on major costs like advertising.

Accept 3rd place for the generation, try to keep fans appeased

Start focusing on your mistakes so they don't happen w/ the ps4.

What I would do w/ the PS4

Release at a price of $350 taking losses of no more than $200 per unit

focus on having great online content right out of the box (dl games, movies, TV)

change the damn controller.

Release in 2010.

Sony is in a very bad position. They were once thought to dominate the console war again but they screwed up badly. Now they are scarmbling by discontinueing skus and revising its marketing plans.

The best thing Sony can do to salvage the ps3 is lower manufactoring cost, release 40gb sku that cost $400, and secure exclusive games. (Those exclusive games can't be hype like the second coming and sux like Lair)

At the end of the console war in about 3-4 years. Ps3 will come in third but won't be far behind the xbox 360. Wii will wiin in hardware sales due to price. Nonetheless, sony has screwed up big time from the begaining and hopefully they can learn from their mistakes.

I wouldn't buy a ps3 until the price drops below $400 and its gaming library is solid like xbox 360's gaming library.

I am looking forward to the ps4 but if sony repeat their mistakes again I won't be supporting them like this gen until they can prove otherwise.

I would, if it were possible,get a $400 sku out there and lower the price to $500 for 80gig sku.SillyManimal

I'd get new shoes

1. As soon as the 60 gigs run out , bring out the standalone 80 gig at $500 with rumble controllers. Reduce any remaining 60 gigs to $429 , and any Motorstorm bundles to $529. 20 gigs to $349 , existing rumbleless controllers $10 off.

2. Bring out a 20 gig model again next holiday but with wifi , memory slots , silver trim , priced $100 below the 80 gig. Add a component/HDMI cable to the 80 gig.This will get the informed gamer or hardcore content downloader to actually buy the 20 gig and upgrade , give the casual gamer that just wants to play the games the ablity to save $100 right off the bat , have the people that need the best of everything get taken a little bit. Those pricepoints should strike a nice balance.

3. At the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 ..... the 80 gig model should be dropped to $400 and the newly released sku to $300.

5. Expanded content at the store. Music downloads , TV shows , TiVo , PSP demos/downloads , more demos for PSN games , etc , etc.

• Mandatory trophy system for Home in 2008. Set limits and guidelines.
• Tournaments for games within Home to win virtual prizes for Home , or wallet credit.
• XMB access anytime to communicate with friends better.
• PSN cards
• Gamertags
• Improve the web browser. It sucks.

• Don't cut any corners with Killzone 2. Make sure it has co-op , online co-op , vehicles , vehicles in multiplayer , etc.
• I like the white room ads. I would keep them going a bit.
• Petition a great developer to make a great western rpg. It needs one.

That is about it. Sony has a nice stable of exclusive games set up for 2007-8-9 ... that is the least of my worries. I would just keep doing what they have been doing bt taking some risks on interesting looking content whenever they can like Echochrome , EveryDay Shooter , Heavy Rain , Heavenly Sword , LBP , etc.

• PSP - Gran Turismo Mobile !!!! Give the team some more developers to get it done. There is no reason that the #1 Sony game hasn't made its way to the platfrom yet.

release a non-bluray model, w/o wifi, for those w/o hdtv and bb...while increasing their backwards capatability.

they could undercut ms by at least $50 and bring back the massive casual base of the ps2 which was founed on the $199 price point..

leave the other models alone for now.

if they did this, ms wouldn't stand a chance.

but, sony being sony, won't.... they're more concerned with their media arm than they gaming arm, so they include bluray w/o choice by the consumer... dumb...

It doesn't take a rocket science to find out why a product isn't selling. They need to do whatever it takes to increase the userbase substantially by this year or early next year. If not they will lose the console war and face sheer embarrasment.

And you'd lose a looooot of money (for price cuts, for further work on the online software, for giving Home more features if it lacks, to pay important developers, and to bundle the models with the HDMI cable and rumble sixaxis controllers) -- and money is one major factor in Sony's decisions.
