ive seen that type of behaviour from Gamestop employees before hate to say it. not to that extreme tho. i remember when the first Xbox came out every time id go to my local Gamestop to grab a game the employess would make fun of me and ask me why i bought a Halo Box. and it was the manager most of the time. lol. we had a good relationship before that but after a while i got tired of hearing their crap and stopped buying games from there for like a year or two. and it really doesnt matter what system it was, its the employees bullying behaviour thats the problem here.

Considering your profile picture I take it that you are looking forward to Jan. 6 and most importantly 11-11-11? Both will be quite epic days indeed. :D

I find it annoying when Gamestop employees try to impose their opinions on me, I mean do they want the sale or not?

ZIVX

These tactics are not just limited to Gamestop, it also goes on in automotive, housing, electronics, and just about anywhere in consumer spending.

Case in point, some guy tried to convince me to buy some used piece of sh!t car (at a high price i might add) because he said he liked it, and didn't allow me to test drive it nor let me explain to him what i was looking for, and right further down the street was an even better deal of a car for a much lower price?

Those sony fanboys there something else i tell yabigboss5ak
That's funny because it's the exact opposite at my local GS, the employees are HUGE 360 fanboys who act the way the TC said against the PS3 and Wii. I guess Gamestop just shouldn't be hiring blatant fanboys on any side, and if the boss finds out about it happening, they should be fired on the spot.

Yeah, that's a shame. No offense to any GAMESTOP employees, but 9 times outta 10 there is always some condescending dude behind the counter. I'm a pretty quiet guy, and I dont particularly like having a conversation about games with the employee where the entire store can hear... so it's always funny to me when the employee assumes I'm not really into "gaming culture" and tries to explain their ridiculous THEORIES and what not, as if it's fact. It's really funny.

If someone comes in and ask them their opinion on a console or a game then fine, they can go on their rants. The customer asked for it after all. However, if someone comes in and knows exactly what they want.. they just need to ring them up and say have a nice day. They don't work on commission, they won't get a higher rate by selling this console over that one... It's irritating when you go to buy something that you know you want, and you know you like,... and the dude at the counter can't stop talking about how terrible it is and starts recommending something completely different. Plus, when I am waiting in line, I really don't want to hear some guy going on a rant for 10 minutes while I wait just to buy a f'ing game.

Wow.............. A person like that works at my local gamespot tooo.

I walked into Gamespot, and there he was talking to this family about how xbox live is really expensive and psn is free, and I just like oh man this isnt gonna be fun. Anyway I was getting my friend a copy for Forza 3, and so I ask him if they have any copies of Forza left, and he looks at me like im retarded or something and says "You know GT5 is out, is has 1000 cars" I'm like I know I have it, then he goes into this rant about how GT5 is better which then turns to how xbox live is way to overpriced, then he goes into details why the xbox sucks. He literally took ten minutes explaining this, and the worst part was when he said afterward: "Of course i only own a ps3, so im a little biased against the xbox. I mean I like arguing stuff like GT5 vs Forza on a board like SW, were your suppose to do it, but I hate it when people do it in real life. Thank god my city has two gamespots, im never going to that one again.

Forget being an annoying fanboy, that guy is just a terrible employee.

Should have gotten a bunch of Kinect games and tried to sell them to the kid and his Dad. An employee's job is to talk UP all game systems in general, because that = more sales. Not telling people to buy one over another for totally arbitrary reasons.

Yeah, gonna go to Best Buy.

I'm surprised the employee would have the motivation still to do such a thing. Just the job itself(working at a gamestop) is so mindnumbingly frustrating that most employees tend to just give the customer what they want asap just to get through things quicker.

[QUOTE="brad12d3"]

I understand that different people have different opinions about what's better than what, and that there are some die hard fans of the different consoles. (For the record I have both a PS3 and an Xbox 3670 and I love them both. ) However, sometimes people take things a little too far. I don't have a problem at all with gamers arguing with each other why their console is better. Go ahead, **** and moan to your heart's content. However, the dude I saw today working at my local Gamestop took the battle between Xbox and PS to a new dickish level.

So while I was waiting in line there was a kid (around 8 - 10) with his dad looking to buy a new xbox. Gamestop was almost sold out except for a 4gb model and the Kinect combo pack. The dad was telling the employee about how all his kid's friends had xbox and how he was excited about playing with them online.. ect..

Once the employee pulled out the 4gb console that they had decided on, he proceeded to go on a xbox bashing session that lasted for the remainder of the time I was in the store, which was around 25 minutes. He was listing a number of games including Halo and Fallout, that couldn't be played on a 4gb xbox (Which isn't true, and one of the main things the kid was looking forward to was playing Halo. Now, given there is limited online play for Halo with this particular console, but that is vastly different than faltout not being able to play a game) He then talked about how terribly built the xbox was and that the new one was worst than the old ones in almost every respect. I saw customers in line shaking their head in disbelief at the crap this guy was shoveling out. He then proceeded (While people were still waiting in line) to take the boy and his father over to the PS3 section to tell them about all the amazing games the PS3 has and how they are just so much better than XBOXs. "This is Killzone, it's like Halo, but waaaay better!!!"

The whole time the Kid had this confused worried look on his face, which morphed into a solemn blank expression which lead to (I kid you not) the employee snapping his fingers in front of the kid, "Saying Hellooo!? SNAP out of it!" I could go on and on about this guys ridiculous rant, but you probably got the point by now.

So now some kid's dad is probably going to get him a PS3, ...which he does not want, and knows nothing about, and cannot play online with his friends, because some douche couldn't see past his own ridiculous bias to let the kid get what he wanted. I mean this guy seriously worked hard to talk the dad out of getting the XBOX, like it was Satan's own trojan horse of evil mind manipulation that would kill your soul if gazed upon.

So please, if you work in a game store and some kid wants to simply buy something and DOES NOT ASK FOR YOUR OPINION!.... just give it to him. That way, he gets what he wants and people don't have to wait in line listening to your BS when they could,.. you know ...could be buying something.

RickyRevolver

thats F'd up. I would never do such thing to a kid. However, it bothers me that the dad was in favor of buying him Halo, the game is rated M...

As long as he doesn't get on xbox live, and start being mouthy :P.

Here's a tip from someone who worked in retail for a good 7 years (not at Gamestop/EB, but at Rogers, the Canadian equivalent of Blockbuster):

I gotta say I love the Gamestop stories, and know that, no matter how far fetched they seem, are probably true due to the individuals that get hired on in that company. Don't like the constant BO smell, though (my nearest EB had a constant BO aroma in the air up until about a year ago). But seriously, if you're getting service like that (OR a lack thereof due to a major fanboy behind the counter), warn them that you just want what you came there for, and if they keep ranting, walk out and go somewhere else, but not before asking for their name. Then call head offce on them. If you explain to them what happened, and especially that they lost a sale because of an employee, not only will that employee be disciplined (probably written up if it hasn't happened before), but you may also get a little something extra out of it to get you to come back.

That reminds me of a time I was at Walmart, where some kids (10-13 years old) were playing motorstorm on the showcase PS3, with a bunch of other kids watching, and the whole time there were these 2 guys (in their 20s) going on out loud about how 'the graphics suck' and 'PS3 is for losers' and '360 has way better games' and more. The kids were just standing their awkwardly, while these two guys who looked like total dorks kept rambling on.

People like him are the reason GameStop gets a bad rep. :(

I've met some annoying employees before (like the ones that want me to preorder everything thats going to come out) but never dealt with somebody like that.

reading this thread its apparant that that kind of behaviour is pretty common at Gamestops. looks like almost everyone thats posted in this thread had had a similar experiance. what the hell does that say about Gamestop? i stopped buying games from there a while ago mainly cus i got tired of them pestering me to preorder stuff. im assuming thats just store policy but god its annoying. and it doesnt explain the pushy, overopinianated sales clerks and sometimes managers.

I thought co-op campaign and firefight didnt work on the 4GB 360? unless Bungie fixed this?

zarshack

I was thinking the same thing..

Halo: Reach Online Co-op Unplayable On 4GB Xbox 360s

Reports this morning say users are experiencing a major issue when trying to play Halo: Reach co-op online. Those playing the game on one of the new Xbox 360 4GB slim units are apparently locked out of the mode due to a lack of hard drive space on the console.

Players were greeted with the message "One or more players do not have the hard drive required for this game type."

Microsoft told IGN the company is aware of the issue and are looking into it. We'll keep you updated if a solution is found.

Microsoft has since updated Halo: Reach's FAQ on the official website saying a hard drive is required, however.

"One or more players do not have a certified Xbox 360 hard drive attached to their Xbox 360 console. Some multiplayer aspects of Halo: Reach require an Xbox 360 certified hard drive."

I've seen more 360 fanboys working at Gamestop, but I believe this story. I've also seen plenty of people who don't play games at all, they're probably the most helpful.

I have 2 stories about my game fights. I already posted one, so i might as well post the other one.

I was at Bestbuy for black friday. The Playstation move demo was up and i was playing with it for so long. Then these 3 guys passed me and was laughing while i was playing. But they tried to hide it by saying "Your doing great!" I get back to my game. I was playing boxing. I grabbed the second move controller and they were like OHHH can he handle it... :? In the middle of the game i heard them whisper .... " I didn't know they sold adult toys at bestbuy." Shocked and nervous, i just left and literally ran to the ipod section . I found me friend and told him what happen. And both are faces had the expression of....WTF.. It was quite a day i gotta tell you. But hey, i got fallout new vegas for 40$!! :D :D :D

what do you mean "oh wait"? that is possible :?

Locutus doesn't actually own a 360 adn has never played a single 360 game but seems to say certain things about 360 games which he doesn't actually know and is then proven wrong later about.

I have a great solution for you TC.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

. Buy games at Bestbuy!

but then you run the risk of running into PC elitiest and lol'ing at you with a console and being like, all you need is this video card and your good to go! it cost as much as your console but imo you'll like the better graphics. then you can still have console fanboys there, they just might not be as vocal because geek squad will stomp on them. They are horrible salesman if they try to force what they want on you, Get them what they want... and more!

This is an amusing story. The guy should've just let the dude buy the XBox and be done with it. That's the guy's job anyway: To sell frickin' stuff! At any rate, the only thing he could legitimately say is that a 4 GB model might be a wee small of a hard drive. Beyond that, he needs to do his job lol.
