One of the major concerns with the Wii has been lack of third party games. That is no longer the case. There are a whopping 86 games being released this quarter alone. That is almost a game a day. Even if only 20% of those games turn out to be great, that is still 17 games. And that doesn't even count all the classic VC games, which now includes the Neo Geo. And let's not forgot that the Wii is the only console that is home to Nintendo's venerable favourites like Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and Smash Bros.

The Wii - fulfilling a hardcore gamer's needs since Nov./06.

The Wii is basically turning out to be another DS. Slow start, but starting to turn up the heat.

No "hardcore gamer's" needs are met by any one console but if I could only have one it certainly wouldn't be the Wii.

Although there are a lot of games coming out for the Wii, most of them lack much substance in my eyes. I'm not bashing the Wii, it's obviously great, having outsold the competition by now. But it's just not my cup of tea, and the controller is kind of annoying too, the fact that I constantly have to flick, wave, and move it around. I guess the Wii is just not for me.

The Wii is a nice cheap console with relatively crappy graphics but nice controls wich is ideal to own next to a real next gen system, either the PS3 or 360. That's the reason it's selling so well. Both PS3 owners, 360 owners and casuals are interested in this console. Commercially a very succesful formula, but not enough to please the hardcore gamer just by itself.

You are clearly living in a bizarre fantasy world, 3rd party Wii titles have ranged from mediocre to garbage so far.

Popcorn Arcade alone is publishing 13 of those wii titles in the coming months: - garbage like ninjabread man and Anubis 2

The Wii - fulifilling publishers shovel-ware needs since Nov./06

I was of the opinion a hardcore gamer wouldn't arbitrarily constrain themselves to one platform, but would rather seek the best gameplay experience that appealed to them. Number of games does not equal quality of games - anyone who calls themselves hardcore simply because they play a lot of crap, is, well...

What is that? Seriously? Where are the Halo's, the Half-Life's, The Call of Duty's? You have crap here. Red Steel? Flop. MP? See below.

Online heavy games? Strkers Charged, Brawl

lol.

Action/Adventure games with characters that aren't Mario/Zelda/Samus/Donkey Kong/Kirby/etc.? This statement is just dumb.

Then list some games that make it wrong.

Sports? Strikers Charged, Madden NFL 07, Madden NFL 08

Sports game suck on the wii. You'll have some niche games, but why would anyone play an EA sports game on the wii instead of the 360 or PS3? So they can prance around their living room?

Flight? Heatseeker.

You're mentioning a game that got a 5.4? Seriously? Where is the Ace Combat? The Flight sims?

RTS? On a console? I can count the console RTSs made one my fingers.

Topic title says Wii is all you need? Apparently you don't need a PC.

I guess i could be happy playing playing Dewys Adventure or Elebits or Kids Sports games instead of the above games...if i was retarded.

Im a hardcore gamer. Why the Wii alone wouldnt be cool for me -

It the only one w/o or with extremly lacking online support. (hardcore gamers like competition)

It will miss out on a ton of huge multiplats (RE5, VF, DMC, ETC ETC ETC)

It has a ton of mini game games

It has old, outdated tech and couldnt do games like Bioshock

The problem? Hardcore gamers only want the best of the best. Now tell me, how many Wii games scored 9.0+ thus far? The answer should amount to around 0-5%. Assuming that trend continues, how many of those 86 games will score above 9.0? The answer: too few. Oh, but I haven't even factored in genre preferences. Of those few games that are of 9.0+ quality, how many of them fall into a genre you enjoy? If you've got broad tastes, that's around 50%. Obviously this math isn't exact, nor is it correct; however, you get the idea that 86 games diminish quite quickly with the right pressure applied.

As a hardcore gamer, a gamer of relatively broad tastes, and a Wii owner, I can honestly say that 2007 will only total up to be 2-3 Wii title purchases throughout the entire year. Sufficient for my habits? No. Justification for the console purchase? No. Conclusion: the Wii doesn't support the needs of the standard hardcore gamer.

Yes, being a "hardcore" gamer is not about what you play, but what you avoid playing for fear of tainting your image, right?

I consider myself failry hardcore (as in passionate, not an elitist graphics whore), and the Wii really is all I *need*. Although I agree with others in this thread that trying to apply that to everyone is questionable to say the least.

In short, hardcore is not about tastes, but one's level of interest. Therefore, any combination of any number of consoles, including one, can be sufficient, given what games the person wants to play.
