There were a lot of beautiful looking games at E3 2008, but none held our eye as long as Gears of War 2. Some very deserving titles made our short list, but at the end of the day, it was Epic's uncanny ability to squeeze magic out of the (upgraded) Unreal Engine 3 that wowed us most.

From the updated soft-body physics to the fantastic water effects and realistic cover destruction, Gears 2 reminded us why Tim Sweeney and the tech team at Epic are some of the best in the business. Not only does Gears 2 look pretty in pictures and HD videos, it also runs like a dream. In our lengthy time playing the Horde co-op mode at a Microsoft event at E3, we saw no slowdown, tearing, crashes or hiccups whatsoever. Here's hoping the finished product looks as good on launch day as it did in L.A.

What's surprising is the impression IGN wrote about KZ2. Cows ate it up like the grass on the greenest pastures. I'm sruprised I thought it was garunteed game of the show from the previews or at least a mentionwaynehead895

Im sorry,but gears 2 looks the same as gears 1 with some shine. IMO KZ2 looks better then gears 2. IM just guessing alot of people at ign likes gears more then killzone. Then again its a site by site bases. So we will never have a definitive answer. You can say IGN said gears 2 looks better,but someone els can say GT says KZ2 looks better. Gears2 looks so distinctly better that i cant imagine any motivation besides fanboyism driving someone to say otherwise. Werent you mad when lems did it to Uncharted? ign did mentioned killzone2 , but it's run up for best graphics.

as for GT5, Polyphony Digital currently not even working on that, keep waiting till 2010.

This is why I try to be honest even when PS3 games turn out really good like MGS4 did. I know that the backlash will swing back around we get a game that tops it.

Don't call IGN partisan either because you blew your trumpets loudly when MGS4 was praised by IGN before it came out( and after).

Gears2 is the coming king and the sooner you accept this the less dammage control you will need later ;)

IGN was the one that stated that.

Now IGN states that GOW2 is the graphics king, and the Lems are going crazy.

So I guess the PS3 has always set the standard for graphics.

Uncharted: "The best game we've ever seen graphically."

Then came MGS4: "One of the best games we've seen grpahically".

What's with all the weird monikers? Lems? Cows? Anyway, weird how those things go in chronological order. Remember IGN saying this, "Gears of War is the best looking game I've ever seen. No contest." The surprising thing is that the 360, which released a year earlier than the PS3 is still competing in graphics. The systems are equal. That's the amazing part. I guess to me it's even more amazing that the 360 still wins many comparisons. Shocking

Because it is a poor looking game. The lighting sucks, the textures suck, the only thing impressive about the graphics is the particle effects.
