Sony is not lying, we heard nothing from them. We have two sites who say Sony confirmed two different things. My best guess is these sites are taking advantage of everyone and getting more hits on their site.

The numbers from the NPD would give a good indication of 3.8 million number being true seeing as the US is the biggest market and would have the majority of the sales

I think hes responding to everyone who debates shipped/sold, not just you.

Quite impressive. They did do a lot of advertising and you would expect most Uncharted 2 sales to turn into Uncharted 3 sales. Considering how the game releases a week after Battlefield 3, a week before MW3, and less than 2 weeks before Skyrim. Gears 3 had substantially less competition and, regardless of its shipped or sold, the fact that it is doing as well as Gears 3 says a lot.

Uncharted games have also always had long legs too. If I recall, Drake's Fortune didn't fare very well at first and Uncharted 2 didn't break 1 million in 24 hours either. Yet both have sold millions. Very good for Naughty Dog.

Uncharted 2 is still the better game though :P. Love saying that.

You'd be surprise at how fast computers can work. I worked in a small convenient store. Every item that was scanned was logged into the database which was instantly sent to distributors that certain amount of this product was bought and needs to be replenished for the next day if needed or the next. And this was a lowly convenient store, not behemoths like walmarts etc.

This outsold Gears? I mean I love Uncharted, but Gears just has such a bigger influence in America? Or I thought so at least.

Either way ND and Sony should be commended. ND made a great game, and Sony FINALLY FINALLY marketed the game right. I made a thread previously on the terrible marketing Sony gives its first party titles. They finally stepped it up with Uncharted 3. The commercials were awesome, the trailer was awesome, and the game is awesome.

Congrats all the way around. But I still find it hard to believe that it outsold Gears, even though I like Uncharted better.

ok good. now we have two different sources. Either way its still very very good.

The more I read up and try to find proof, the more I'm believing its just shipped numbers. I also looked at previous history of what Sony has done. And this same exact fiasco was present for Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 3. Sony just states sold as sold to retailers not consumers. Basically whenever Sony says sold, they mean shipped. Why they do this? I don't know.
