Buy Zack & Wiki Campaign 2007
Okay, you can't buy it yet, but maybe you can pre-order. And if not, you should at least start saving.
by Matt Casamassina

June 18, 2007 - Not since Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on GameCube have we demanded that readers purchase a videogame, but the time has come (again) for us to take a stand. Capcom has a fantastic point-and-click puzzle-adventure on its hands. It's clever. It's difficult. It will make you think. It's also beautiful, perfectly capitalizing on Wii's strengths.

Unfortunately, it's got a stupid name. Formerly Project Treasure Island Z, now it's called Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Uh-huh, we know. Bad. Really, really bad. Meanwhile, unless you loved the ****of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - and you should have - you probably won't find yourself wowed by the cel-shaded graphics forming the characters and worlds in Z&W. And there's no blood, F-bombs or dead hookers, either - all integral ingredients to today's most popular efforts.

But we're telling you, Zack & Wiki is fun. Really fun. Really smart. And really enjoyable. And we're not going to stop this campaign until you've pre-ordered it. Do it. Do it right now. What do you mean your local retailer isn't accepting pre-orders? That's no excuse for the truly dedicated. Start saving. Create a Zack & Wiki fund. And get on the message boards and spread the word. It's come down from the IGN Wii editors that Z&W (as those in the know call it) is the real deal and must be owned. As loyal Nintendo fans, you cannot disobey.

after watching the video I know what i lot of today's gamers will think. "OMG so much reading"

They are absolutely right. The developers have cleally put much effort in to this, but most casuals probably won't buy this. That's why it's up to us to make the development worthwhile, so more games in this genre, and with this much effort will be released.

Face it, to sell games in the industry these days, all you have to do is aquire a movie tie in lisence and the game will sell. It's up to the gamers to make sure quality titles get released.

Haven't played it yet but after seeing Ratchet and Clank this doesn't impress me very much lol. That's not to say they can't do some creative things with the controls but so far I hate all non-mini games using that Wii stick.

I won't lie, I never played that game. I couldn't stomach past 30 mins of Rayman, Red Steel, and after a couple of days with Zelda I grew tired of the conrols (poke, poke, slash......I was really wishing a normal controller would work at that point). I knew that was a basic port from DS so I never was intrested in playing a DS game. Kind of like I didn't want to waist my time with Cooking Mama. I'm sure they are entertaining if your into those type of DS games but I honestly was looking for something to wow me. Wii sports for all its demo glory IMO is probably the best game I've played for the Wii....and it's not even a real game lol.

I'm on the sideline until I see Lucasarts come up with a lightsaber combat game using the wonder wand......or some samuari game from someone. If they could give a me a game that wasn't somekind of party/mini game that had a mature theme and didn't make me want break the controller while playing I would be intrested. DS games obviously are popular, just not to me personally.

Thats what most people don't get. I give credit when its due.

1. No mario -check

2. Actual onnovative control scheme- check.

3. New world. new characters. new story. - check.

4. Not a last gen port with tacked on controls. - check.

Sign me up. I'm actually excited about this game.

are you just comparing graphics? because the gameplay of the 2 games is nothing alike. this is not a platformer or action adventure.

Its funny cause its point and click but it avoids the very thing I hate about those games, its a point and click but with far more interactivity within the game. Your not just pointing and clicking at all. Its wonderfully deceptive.

Realistically speaking some of the best games on the PS2 still managed to bomb in sales. Even with 100 million consoles sold. Doesn't surprise me, the best movies make no money, the best bands are unknown, etc etc. Psychonauts and Okami sold like pants.

Well yes I'm comparing the graphics but I was alsosaying if I was going to play a kid friendly type game I wouldn't do it with the Wii stick. Yes the graphics is something I was talking about but in the end the controls have frustrated me more than anything else for the Wii. You know I still to this day can't do half the secretmoves for Zelda. I guess I'm in the minority although my 13 yr old brother actually hates the Wii controls so much he went out and rented the GC Zelda lol (he is the biggest Zelda fan). So I know it's not just me that have problems.

All I know iskeeping my arm up to point to the spots where I walk is not something I would ever play. At least Ratchet uses a normal controller.....that's my main point.

the clip is a fake. if you look at the Strike words only once did i see a Double. i didn't ever see a turkey or more in that clip. this leads me to believe that they staged the whole thing and recorded only the clips when he got a strike and clearly that wasn't very consistant or we would have seem turkey, 4, 5 ,6 etc.

like i said this is a point and click adventure game. it's an established genre and who in their right mind would want to play any pnc adventure with a normal controller. also you make it sound too hard to point. do you keep your controller up all the time? because you can rest your arm on your couch and still point you know.

So bowling is based entirely on chance because you can realistically throw the bowling ball backwards and get strikes 1/5 times?

This could do quite well if one thing is done for it. Capcom needs to advertise this game, end of story. That's the main and only thing that needs to be done. A couple of TV spots on the right channels and at the right time of day could be HUGE for a game like this, especailly if they make it clear in 30 seconds how fun and challenging the game is.

If that doesn't happen it doesn't matter how hard IGN tries I think. Capcom should simply talk to Nintendo and get them to help do TV ads for the game. A few Nintendo ads most likely could insure this has a few hundred thousands sales in a single month.

If that doesn't happen it doesn't matter how hard IGN tries I think. Capcom should simply talk to Nintendo and get them to help do TV ads for the game. A few Nintendo ads most likely could insure this has a few hundred thousands sales in a single month.

Aye, all aboard the hype train!

And we all know IGN knows about great gaming on the Wii!!

O.o Oooookay... *Leaves to go try*

the clip is a fake. if you look at the Strike words only once did i see a Double. i didn't ever see a turkey or more in that clip. this leads me to believe that they staged the whole thing and recorded only the clips when he got a strike and clearly that wasn't very consistant or we would have seem turkey, 4, 5 ,6 etc.

here we go!

Also, the range of a Wiimote is NOT the legnth of a trip to the store.

ITS NOT!!???? God, those guys know how to pull one over one me!

I can already tell that this game is really playing to the strengths of motion sensing. It doesn't require precision, but rather specific gestures. It uses the wiimote's cursor for precision (and the nunchuck stick, I presume. It doesn'tabsolutely look like it needsthe nunchuck though, which would be nice.)

It'll be awesome if Wii, and this game, revitalizes the point and click adventure genre.

So bowling is based entirely on chance because you can realistically throw the bowling ball backwards and get strikes 1/5 times?

no, that's part of what i'm saying. the video was trying to prove that it's easy to bowl strikes everytime doing odd things. we're only seeing the time were he actually got a strike. and clearly they aren't consistant thus it ruins the point of the video does it not. and yes there is an element of chance as well. after all sometimes this chick i know can get a strike in real life. even though her average is a 60. that strike certainly isn't skill ;)

that's what i hope. we need more games like grim fandango, monkey island, and the classic sierra lineup.

So if not trying at all gives you 1 or 2 strikes out of 5, then trying gives you strikes all the time.

The sheer realism compels me to "show off" to chicks I can get strikes in a video game when it was coded in my favour. It's like a lottery ticket that costs 2 bucks and won me 2 bucks. A shallow person would say "OH SNAP I WON!" because he doesn't realize the truth behind the whole system as it sucks him in thinking he can win at gambling.

Wii Sports shames real sporting. It requires no skill.
