could you give me the rundown of what other m did to samus? I keep hearing that they ruined her, but I don't know what they didohthemanateeim not sure, but i think she kept complaining about her past
Well this isint IGN as a whole agreeing with this. This is 1 person who works there. Since the person who actually reviewed the game liked the way she was handeled. I personally also like how she was handeled.
this is the first time that i'm interested in the metroid series, I played it on the nes and super nes but it never stood out to me. I haven't played the other M yet but giving her a voice actually made it interesting for me

Its kinda hard to jsut ask since there are those who grossly exaggerate. This is a situation that its best to play and see it.

Yeah, and you also like how Ninja Theory is handling the new DmC. You truly are a... unique individual, finalfantasy... :?

Well must be alot of other unique individuals out there too. I also take the term unique as a complement so thank you sir.
I enjoyed the game gameplay wise but Samus portrayal in the other M wasn't that good. They ditched the cool and claim Samus Aran and gave us another run of the mill over emotional female character (the ones we're use to seeing in a lot of anime)
Never liked that guyYeah, they totally ruined her character. She is now three dimensional. Why does she have to be three dimensional? She's a girl!!!! Amirite?
I miss the good IGN.....

Theres no "mutual" option? Anywho, I will say that Other M had some very questionable story elements, however, I am honestly getting sick of the stereotypical sexism that I see in connotation to her character. Its really annoying.
Im a hardcore Metroid fan just like many but I will not exaggerate like most and say that Other M destroyed Samus's character because it didn't. I am also getting sick of the vocal "professional" journalist who flat out nip-pick the smallest details and explode them into exaggerated problems and under-meanings.Its funny that no one has yet to prove any true evidence behind their claims other than the typical, "but thats not how WEimagined Samus..."
I can easily understand people not liking the direction, story and so much of what the game was trying to do, but to claim that Samus was ruinedis just down right stupid.

Yeah. The internet should be complaining the way Ninja Theory is going to ruin Devil May Cry.Theres no "mutual" option? The arguments Ive read/seen have been majorly about how the writer expect's Samus into being a "robotic" almost emotionless character who was just badass. However, theres few instances in the game where she shows fear, and her troubled past. People instantly jump the whole, "Shes too feminine," "WTF Samus can't get scared," "Samus has seriousDADDY issues,""She took an order, now shes submissive" blah blah blah blah blah.... I know those elements of the game were not very well done but at least acknowledge that aspect and not the fact that they "tried" to give her character. Its very stupid how her being a female has played a huge part of peoples negative comments. She had a personality in Fusion.Disagree. I'm fine with Samus having a personality that makes her seem very human.

Just think if this characterization happened to another character, Master Chief or Gordon Freeman for example, I doubt many of the people saying it's ok would agree then. I'm not one of those who are saying that she shouldn't have character because I think she should, I just disagree with making her such a cliche female protagonist.

Take Master Chief out of that cause Master Chief had so much more narritive than Samus before Metroid Other M.
Besides there's so much more to the Halo Story Line that I would have never known if I never read the Halo Books or Read Halsey's Journal in the Special Editions of Reach.
like Everyone on Nobel Team except for Jorge is not a Real Spartan
No I don't agree.
I loved her personality and how much character she had. It was nice to see her relation with other characters and I enjoyed her relationship with Adam ((Like the Father Figure)) it was a touching moment.
Yeah, they totally ruined her character. She is now three dimensional. Why does she have to be three dimensional? She's a girl!!!! Amirite?

That's the truth.
But you see what I'm getting at. It has nothing to do with her being a female, it has to do with her being such a badass character and in this portrayal of her they made her very emotional, even to the point where she can't fight a boss that's been in like every Metroid game before.
Same. Game feels up to date. Its nice the foggy cloud over samus has been removed.this is the first time that i'm interested in the metroid series, I played it on the nes and super nes but it never stood out to me. I'm glad she's three-dimensional, but she's still rather unoriginal. We've seen pretty much every aspect of her newfound depth elsewhere a hundred times. And is it really impossible for badasses to be anything deeper than someone like Master-Chief?Yeah, they totally ruined her character. She is now three dimensional. Why does she have to be three dimensional? She's a girl!!!! Amirite?

IMO Samus is ruined a lot more by crappy writing and being whiny and unlikeable than not fitting the appropriate gender role. TGO wants me to believe that I am upset because Samus didn't fit my predisposed view of her character, but really I'm just upset because the melodrama makes the story boring and lame.Yeah, they totally ruined her character. How would you guys feel if Link started talking???bonzibuddyxxxI bet they'd make him homosexual. :P
How would you guys feel if Link started talking???bonzibuddyxxx
Totally depends on the Character that Nintendo Gives him.
Heck Link is pretty much different in every game. I think in Wind Waker he was a bit cowardly.

Where in Other M is Samus "Whining"?
You mean the Times where it's a FLASHBACK to where she said that she was "Young and Naive"?
or the Time where she
wanted to sacrifice HERSELF instead of Adam sacrificing his?
I didn't see her Whine be like "WAH! Adam, Daddy! I want to use my Missiles! Wah! *sucks thumb*"
not ONCE did I see that.
You can't ever please anyone with a few changes.:P I found Samus to be a corny as hell but not to the point where I'd mute everything. I thought her voice was good but the script wasn't handled correctly.
This is really an opinion sort of thing. If the next game has a better script then it won't really matter anymore.
Oh dear God, and that's why i consider IGN the worst of the 4 grand gaming sites (GS, IGN, GT, GB), hell, i think i enjoy much more GamesRadar articles than IGN, they are just really bad.
And no, i'm not agree with them at all, Other M was more of a private Samus diary only for herself.
I personally didn't like the way it was presented, but I thought it was a fair try by Nintendo/Team Ninja. The one thing I keep shaking my head at personally is the people who throw out the "orders" complaint. They seem to forget that in Metroid Fusion, she also took orders, from a COMPUTER! She had greater freedom in execution in that title, but the concept was the same, right down to the near chewing out when she forced open the fourth level doors. One last thing, though mostly unrelated: my memory is fuzzy, but wasn't Master Chief taking ORDERS from Cortana during Halo: CE? If Samus is submissive for taking them, being female, wouldn't that also mean that Master Chief is a whipped dog under Cortana's leash?
