:x I hate the .5 scale it is awful, the .1 difference is an easier way to indicate which games are better on which system if nothing else. Not only that but it also leads to nab sites giving out too many 10's in one generation... :P.
No, the source of the large abundance in 9s and 10s is due to the horribly skewed score system. An integer system would help to fix this problem.:x I hate the .5 scale it is awful, the .1 difference is an easier way to indicate which games are better on which system if nothing else. Only three games have scored a 10 this gen, using that scale(GS) :P:x I hate the .5 scale it is awful, the .1 difference is an easier way to indicate which games are better on which system if nothing else. The main problem is the system being weighted more towards the high end for "average" than the true middle around 5.0. Its why Eurogamer gives out so many lower scores compared to most sites... they actually have a balanced scale that properly represents the positions on the scale. And why games like MGS4 received a 8/10.You understand why Eurogamer gave MGS4 8/10. :-3

Please explain this integer system to me, friend. I'm cornfussed :? :P.
This. You don't need to be any more accurate than an out-of-five scale for the purpose of scoring a game (which is to provide a rough idea of the game's quality to those who don't read the review, not sum up the absolute minutae of a game in a single number).[QUOTE="PBSnipes"]
[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Why not ditch these stupid systems and just have the Five Star system, that actually makes sense.Episode_Eve
I like the 5 star scale, but I also like some diversity in review systems. Eurogamer does well with their 1-10 scale, for example, fully utilizing it. So maybe not every single publication should use it; that's just my take. There are some credible sites that use 5 stars, the most notable being Giant Bomb and G4. It's great how they don't translate their scale into 1-100% themselves, because it doesn't make sense.
What is a problem I believe, is aggregate sites like Metacritic and GameRankings using their scores in averages--it doesn't correlate. I think that's a reason Adam Sessler (since he's the editor-in-chief) doesn't want G4 reviews on those sites. I haven't seen any G4 reviews on MC in a while, and knowing Sessler's views on reviews, I've come up with that educated guess :P.
Metacritic is actually bad for the gaming industry, that's why people who are conscientious about their impact on developers want no dice with it. The aggregation of review score data, and the focus on numerical reviews over actual game content / quality just leads to a hamburger-ization of the gaming world. You wind up with a bunch of big budget games trying to mass-appeal themselves into AAA scores, and a bunch of low-budget games trying to cash-in by copying whatever social game was successful. Metacritic perpetuates that, they only way they would ever get an ounce of respect for me after all of the horrible things that have come about because of them, from firings to entire studios being liquidated, is if they posted a public apology and took down their site.[QUOTE="Indie_Hitman"][QUOTE="SapSacPrime"]

Whole numbers :P ie: 1, 2, 3 ...etcYou understand why Eurogamer gave MGS4 8/10. :-3Hexagon_777
[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]You understand why Eurogamer gave MGS4 8/10. :-3foxhound_foxWell, I did read the review and the review guidelines... and I wasn't surprised given what they said regarding the game. I find it interesting how people just expect everyone to give highly hyped games perfect scores across the board and then criticize them for not doing it.I did a thread on the subject when it was still fresh and pwned some n00bs. It's always nice seeing people who don't bash Eurogamer for giving MGS4 an 8/10 because they understand why they did it.

[QUOTE="argetlam00"]0.1 :P So will we be seeing even more 9.0's, 9.5's and 10's from IGN?good. WTF is the difference between 7.8 and 7.9?
blue_hazy_basic
But there is a difference between a 7.8, and an 8, or a 7.8 and a 7.5..... 7.5= good.. 7.8= pretty good, almost great but not quite, and 8.0= Great... I dont understand why they have to take away the possibilities of scores.. Seriously if you want to give a 7.5 or an 8.0 then just give it one.. Theres NO REASON for them to deny their reviews a little bit more flexibility with there scores...
I like Game Informer's .25 increments the most-The-G-Man-
Yeah, exactly that would be perfect... Id even be fine with that.. .5 is just to big a difference imo
Yeah! Though I think they gave Fable 2 a 10... :S But other than that, Yeah!I don't think the scale matters as much as the way they grade. More sites should be hard asses like eurogamer
