I'm afraid our beloved PS3 is in serious trouble.

I am gonna get flamed for this but alot of 360 additional sales come from rebuys after the console has failed on them. It helps that it is $199 too.

But the PS3 can only go anywhere but up. Slow and steadily it has been growing in sales and getting more games.

If 2009 is any indication and that if everything goes to plan, the PS3 could be the console to own.

Also no console this gen is doomed. Gaming has changed alot, it is no longer about the sells but the game quality. If it were about the sells, Nintendo would be acting like a market leader by offering good quality games but they are not.

Everywhere I go, everyone is in the Wii isle of the store, some are in the XBox 360 isle, and no one is in the PS3 isle. This shows that most people are more interested in price than high technology, high definition, great graphics, great features, and great games that have some depth to them. Because of the Wii, people who have never played games before think that all games are like Wii games, which are kiddy party games with horrible graphics, no HD, and no depth. I bet every Wii owner is using the composite cable that came with the system, so they don't know they aren't getting the best picture they can get. I'm afraid the Wii is going to hurt the sales of the other consoles to a point that it's going to ruin gaming for all of us hardcore gamers. Pretty soon, all games will be kiddy party games in standard definition.

The second thing is the price drop of the XBox 360 to $200. Sales of the 360 have jumped 60% because of this, and it's even outselling the PS3 in Japan. The 360 even got a complete makeover of the menu system to function more like the XMB on the PS3, and the Elite version has HDMI output. The thing that's the most frustrating and disturbing is that we mostly get very poorly done garbage 360 ports because developers are too lazy to figure out how to program for the PS3. Also, way more people own 360's than PS3's, so the developers ignore us.

It's a crying shame really. The PS3 is the best of the 3 consoles, but it looks like it's going the way of the Dreamcast. The PS3 has a Blu-Ray player, SD card slot, the XMB which is easier and more user friendly than the other consoles, better features, the virtual PS3/PSOne memory cards, a regular PC hard drive so it can be swapped out easily for a larger hard drive, supports wallpapers and themes for the menu, and you can download and transfer other peoples game saves from your PC to the PS3 via SD card or flash drive.

I guess people don't like or care about any of that. They would rather play 'Barbie Gets A Makeover' with their Wii nunchuck in standard definition.

yes, you have a larger fan base of fps/tps lovers, congrats. PS3 users generally are more diverse, which is why MGS4 and LBP were made.

If your claiming prince of persia and mirror's edge as better versions, you can stop. changing the contrast and brightness controls on a tv does not count when comparing graphics. and both consoles are now claiming exclusive content. a couple of multiplatforms still do look years ahead on the 360 than the ps3, but the developers will do a better job when they see that one version isn't selling as well.

you know.. looking at my ps3.. and it's lovely interface & features.. i often wonder how impressive this console would have been if it weren't for x360 out-doing it in all accounts (graphics, architecture & services, ... except hardware reliability).

ps3 really shines if there wasn't an x360 in the market.

anyway.. competition always a good thing. don't get sentimental because of brand loyalty / fanboysm...

get an x360 and enjoy it. it's clearly the better console this gen.

Don't worry the PS3 is just 2 years old and has at least 8 more years to go. The price will come down to 299 by march of next year. At that point thew flood gates will open NOT only because of the price but because of Blu-Ray, and the number of people who own HDTVs.

Not only that but Xbox 360 sales is NOT doing well, it is selling about the same as Xbox did and a lot less than PS3 did in the same amount of time. Ture that PS3 is doing worse but it just means that many people who owned a PS2 have not bought a new console yet. give it time.

First of all you act as if your entire post is a solid fact and not an opinion. I believe the PS3 is the downright worst of the consoles, would pick the wii even if it's price was swapped with that of a PS3, and am playing much better games than 'barbie gets a makeover'. Has it ever occurred to you that your precious playstation 3 is being outsold because people actually LIKE the other consoles? Or do you think that everyone acknowledges the PS3 as the "supreme console" and is just buying what is cheapest. Also, there is no such thing as casuals and hardcore. Finally don't you realize that for some people graphics are actually at the bottom of the list of priorities for a game? I could care less about "High" definition and it has never really made a big difference to me if i'm playing on a giant HD screen or a 12 inch by 12 inch. While I agree the Wii is ridiculous, it's more of a fad than a game system in my opinion. I don't think it's necessarily just price that is killing the PS3. They sell regardless of the price, that much is proven. The problem is software. While there are some critically acclaimed games for it (MGS4, LBP, R2), they are few and far between. Most of the higher rated games are new unproven IP's. Whereas 360 has Halo, which has become a household name. While PS3 is slowly proving itself in the market, it is still first and foremost a means for Sony to push the Blu-ray format, just as PS2 was meant to push DVD (although more succesful, since it was a vast improvement over VHS). The majority of Wii owners are also non-gamers and families. So of course it's going to sell tons. I see the Wii as the World of Warcraft of consoles. I don't think the PS3 will leave third place, but hopefully Sony will learn from their mistakes this gen and improve things for their next console.

I like the PS3, in fact i have two of them. Its been disappointing in some regards, but nothing could live up to the Sony ( and sony fan-boy ) hype. Its a solid machine with nice features. That said, it sure does not seem like the market place is interested in the system at all. Like the TC said, in retail stores across the county it is very sad and lonely in the PS3 isle. The same could be said about the Blu Ray section too...occasionally i see people gawking at the movies, but then quickly move away when they see the prices. Its a case of one to many consoles this generation. If PS3 disappeared off the retail shelves, no one would notice or complain that much.Videodogg

The PS3 has a great lineup for late 2008/2009/2010 and some of the DLC mentioned in previous posts are on;y "timed exclusives". GTA4 DLC will come to the PS3 at some point and Fallout 3 DLC will come to PS3 if the demand is high enough

Sony should bribe Activision for Guitar Hero and then the PS3 will become 5x more profitable.

ya cause games like LBP, and Resistence 2 boosted PS3 sales and sold millions on par with Gears 2 and Fable 2.
