I have no idea. What makes you think I would now what would revive your own personal enjoyment of playing games?

It's probably just burnout in general. A gaming PC isn't going to help.

since you want better graphics i suggest you go outside, stop being a tool games are about gameplay maybe what you need is real competitive online play, try Starcraft 2 trial if you get a pc, great graphics and a highly competitive online community.

I doubt a PC will help. If there is not aparticular game you want to play on the PC, then graphics wont help.

PC games have a lot more depth, and the sound quality is far better than console as well. I barely play my 360 anymore and the PS3 hasn't been used in 2012 at all I think
That's mainly because of Skyrim but if a game is out on all 3 platforms then I always get the PC version as they are the best

I got tired of overhyped console games that failed to meet expectations as well as $60 retail games that take forever to go on sale. I bought a PC and my love for gaming was revitalized. Consoles just don't do it for me anymore since I'm tired of super linear, short, heavily scripted, "cinematic" games.

A lot of games are just copying other games nowadays especially FPS ( COD ) gaming in these genres is starting to get old as once you've played one you've played them all. On top of that is over casualising of perfectly good game franchises, hand holdy design of console games these days like Splinter Cell Conviction and the new Rainbow six games and all your favorite old franchises being turned into FPS's like Syndicate, Fallout and XCOM as well as all this Kinect crap that we keep seeing, I can see why you would be getting bored of it.

The PC however doesn't only give you different franchises and different genres to play with that are pretty much non existent on consoles, it also gives you the opportunity to make your own games or modify existing ones. That's not to say it isn't without its fair share of hand holdy console ports but it does have a massive selection of games both new and old that aren't designed for 12 year olds and with all those games and everything else you can do on the PC relating to your hobby, its pretty hard to get bored.

I think the TC needs to differentiate between real gaming burnout and a case of "grass is greener next door."

For me, if it's the first, a gaming PC isn't going to make any difference. Burnout is burnout.

I've experienced the latter a few times especially when I was still gaming at 1440x900 and below. Once I moved up to my sweet spot of 1080p, I became satisfied. Right now, I don't really feel inclined to move to up to the next higher resolution.

The only thing that was "burned out" this generation was the Xbox 360 and it's red ring. The PS3 and its Cell processor is still going very, very strong; and with great games coming out this year, I feel it will prove to still have a lot of untapped potential.

I'm bored of gaming in general, even though there's still a ton of games I've yet to try this gen ... This feeling usually comes and goes, so I'm sure I'll snap out of it eventually.

cell is weaker than a cedar trail intel netbook cpu.. it benches a netbook cpu out preforms it. its potential was maxed a LONG time ago. realistically speak the cell processor was outdated the day it was put into a ps3

Same here. I just wish they would release new consoles already. It has been 6-7 years since the X360 and PS3 have been released. It is about time for new system's that can (hopefully) provide new and improved gaming experiences, along with better gfx. I am sick and tired of people complaining and saying "oh I have only had this system for 4 years", or "its too early" or "I dont want to buy a new system". They are slowing progress down. Many people have had these systems for 3-5 years now. Meaning they have used something that only costs around $300-$400 for that much time. Its time for change. If you cant afford new systems, get a job (assuming you are not in college/University, if you are then its quite understandable, given the high tuition of 25k-50k a year).

What? There are plenty of good games on the Wii. Not as many as on the PS3 but still plenty of good games to play.

And they're not all Nintendo IPs either.

Hmm, i'll say yes, definitely. I stopped playing on consoles in 2010, and went to PC. Over the course of then to now, i have amassed about 500 hours each into CSS and TF2. Definitely good choices as far as fun goes. Plus, the various mods (zombie mod, deathrun, etc.) are great. Anyways, heres some suggestions: Shogun 2 (i personally recommend Fall of the samurai , the standalone expansion) Mount and Blade Warband + the Napleonic Wars DLC Battlefield 2 with the Project Reality mod Arma 2 (sadly you need probably the strongest computer in the world to have 1700 AI at once :P ) Etc. etc.

Get a PC.. you'll like gaming again. Diablo 3, BF3, Crysis 2, Witcher 2, (any multiplat) will all give you a new sense of love for gaming. Consoles are quite shoddy, the difference is beyond the margins into full blown legendary upgrade.

I'm not, call me crazy but I still think these consoles still have plenty of power left (well mostly just the PS3). Plus our current economic climate isn't ready for a new console release IMO, I do have the money to buy a new one, but I don't really think it would worth it dropping down 350-400 bones (hopfully they will be in that launch price range) because I have some more important things to spend money on right now.

Current gen is fine for me.

No, you should just stop gaming altogether. Give it a rest for a year or two, then come back.

The PC can provide some very different kinds of games to consoles. For example, I recently played through SCII and an adventure game which were both something new for me, and a nice change. In my case though, there's still plenty I want to play on consoles, including new IPs, and I'm more than satisfied with PS3/360 graphics.

i agree, i wanted a hot little 5 year affair with the 360 and ps3 i had no idea i would be marrying and growing old with them.

oh well it makes little difference really, i have already begun to just replay my old games and sock away money for next gen.

I think it could. Not only will you have access to games with better graphics than what is avilable on PS3/360 you will also have access to a lot of Strategy games and MMO games that aren't on consoles. I wouldn't say a gaming PC is worth it for the improved graphics alone but when you factor in all the games on PC that aren't available on consoles it is well worth it in my view. Also you don't even really need to buy the latest and greatest PC hardware to be able to play the games you have missed out on and have better graphics than what is avilable on consoles. Make sure you stop by the PC hardware forum to get advice if you plan to build a new PC. Even if you more or less know what you want it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion.

You are "burnt out" because you aint experiancing the pure gaming bliss that is the Sony PS3.

Mountains and mountains of exclusives ova' here baby!

The PS3 encapsulates all that is gaming. Pure gaming bliss at its finest baby!

Who needs new consoles when Uncharted 2 already looks better than Crysis on a GTX 580! Dat dere console optimisation son. And that barn bursting stable of world class exclusives is going to continue to grow for the next 10 years.

Sony Domination Continuation.

TC, have you ever considered getting some friends together and playing some Dungeons & Dragons? Well... any tabletop RPG, really. The latest version of D&D is pretty bad, but there are tons of alternatives out there that are far better, cheaper, and just all around amazing.

Not me. I still play my Genesis, Saturn, and Gamecube a bunch. Even the legendary Dreamcast gets a spin now and then. I'm fine with the state of gaming right now. If they do bring out a new system I will be interested though.

Yep. I try not to get the sequel to a game until I beat the previous one. Sometimes my want for the new release, combined by my poor gaming skill, makes me buy it first. I just won't play it until I beat the previous one. This leads up to a lot of games that I still have to play. On my old consoles , I like to go back and pick one, then break out a bunch of games for that system and play it.

I never get burned out on gaming.

The trick is to not play too much of a certain game, or genre too much, and always explore new games and experiences.

Yes there is a ton more variety, many more genres, and far more games in general, but those don't mean all that much unless you actually want that.

Don't buy a PC just to play console games you could already play. That's not going to help your situation at all.
