I'm confused, which console ended up last in sales? X360 or PS3?

Am I the only one that likes when they are extremely close in sales. Brings on great competition (which means lower prices).

PS3 has always been last ... 6 years n still counting ... xbox 360 sold 70 mil more then a month and a half ago

PS3 seems to have caught up but Sony is technically the loser here. Sony lost its market share and Microsoft became a massive competitor despite all the cash they have been throwing around. Nintendo also somehow managed to sell massive amount of consoles. I actually thought that after GC the next console would flop and Nintendo would only rely on handhelds.

Edit: Would also like to add that no matter what happens right now it doesn't really make much difference. Gamers have had their fun with the console and the fight for exclusives will just carry on to next gen where it will be very interesting.

PS3 is last but within 2 million or so units. With the way this gen started out, this was a best-case scenario for Sony. $600 launch price AND a year late to market? It at least had Blu-ray and a HDD in every unit - perhaps MS will learn where they misstepped to better Durango.

Why isn't a tie in the options? because it was actually a tie.. :S

The numbers for the 360 last year in Nov and Dec just for America that were sold to customers were

1.7 million in Nov

1.7 million in Dec

Now think about it, Microsoft and game stores know they will need to stock up on supplies. For the months of Oct and Nov tens of thousands of 360s will be leaving every single day where ever they store the 360s to be shipped out. The 360 gets its biggest chunk of sales at the end. Since we go by shipped numbers you have to figure the amount of 360s being sold since their last number release will be huge.
