The Kinect was created with social aspects in mind. I apologize if this offends any one but in my analysis, just an analysis not a description but an analysis of forums in general, most posters are not social individuals especially when they post in forums every day and have high Game Spot user levels. Now with this loner gamer forum poster analysis characteristics, it does not take a genius to realize there will be conflicts with some thing created to be sociable and is meant to be played with friends and family. There are countless videos where it shows friends in malls, families in living rooms, drunk sorority sisters, female oil wrestlers, brothers from other mothers, close relationship cousins, and the social list continues that shows them having endless joyful bliss of fun playing with the Kinect. The Kinect is designed for family and friends and those who are social gamers. So the hatred for the Kinect is very understandable especially in an environment where being a single person is the way of life. From NBC to CNN to MTV to every other world media outlets all over the world, the Kinect is showcased as if it was aligned up with the stars, the moons, and planet perfectly in living rooms all over the hemispheres of Earth. It is time for fun, it is time for entertainment, it is time for a revolution, it is time for the Kinect. And to answer the question, I will be the very first in line camped outside the store a week early, so I will be the first to get the Kinect in my neck of the woods first, oh yes. The Kinect is the best motion control this gaming generation in my personal educated reality of opinions. Jump in and Kinect.reanimatedchamp

Great post and I agree. I'm not sure if this is how Gamespot feels about it but it certainly seems like casual gaming discussion is just simply not welcomed right now here. However, I don't believe Gamespot as an entity is going to shun casual gamers so whether traditional gamers like it or not, there will be more and more people giving their two cents on casual games in a positive way.

And just because someone likes these type of games, it shouldn't give the others the right to bypass some of the "general posting rules" and effectively break the TOS on the forums to bash anyone and everyone that may take enjoyment in those games or Kinect.

This is my opinion of Kinetic.

Firstly, it looks cool. How can you not be exicted.

Secondly, I want to dispell these notions that it is no good because it won't have hard core games, thats what your 360 controller is for.

Thirdly, if you are not interested in it, than so be it.

Fourthly, it looks like alot of fun.

Fifthly, is nothing like an eyetoy, with the exeption of a camera. Heck even the 360 had a camera based game-Totemball.

Sixthly, it's going to make those Wii like party games and experience way more interactive.

Seventhly, alot of the games we are seeing now are standard launch titles we see for every new technological advance. And they look pretty good at this point in development.

Eighthly, alot of you guys are hating just to hate and thats just wrong.

Ninthly, that so called Kinetic crashing video was not a crash but some one disconnecting the Kinect, pressing the power button or pausing and trying to end the game. Also it could have been all those camera flashes going off too.

Tenthly, and most importantly Kinetic is not for you hardcore gamers. Its for gamers that want to experience something different. And not trying to be all things to everybody like Sony, I don't want to play KZ3 with the Move, the DS3 works just fine.

-Ninja_Dog-

Cool! Another KINECT thread!!! This is like 1135 Kinect thread's I've seen now in a two week period. I wonder if any of these are Xbox employees or something.:P

One thing is for sure, Kinect as a topic is getting to be sticky worthy.

Hey, on a completely separate note, I think I remember you from last generation over 5 years ago, if I'm remembering the right person, you were Xbox Halo guy, right? It's been a long, long time...if I got the right guy. How have you been? :P

I think some people were destined to be in love with Kinect. Not because it's awesome, but because of the manufacturer. In fact, that's what a PR person from Xbox said a month or so ago, and he's right.

There are those though that allow their imagination to sell them on what it will offer, and of course those that just buy the new tech stuff.

Until it offers AA-AAA Exclusive Game software, I'm not going to bother with it. Comparing Rockband, we are looking at an AAA series with RB, and tons of fun. If Kinect can offer that, an AA-AAA Exclusive reason to buy it, that's one thing. However, I'm not going to jump around my livingroom for $150 for no reason. Bring me the exclusive games!

This is my opinion of Kinetic.

Firstly, it looks cool. How can you not be exicted. - I don't know what you mean. How does it look cool? What is "cool"? I'm not excited for it... and it does not look "cool."It looks like someone flailing their arms around at given points in time. Please elaborate so I can get a better understanding of what you are trying to say.

Secondly, I want to dispell these notions that it is no good because it won't have hard core games, thats what your 360 controller is for. - So you are saying it's not for "hard core games," but I'm not sure what you mean by this. What constitutes a "hard core" game? Again please elaborate.

Thirdly, if you are not interested in it, than so be it. - This doesn't really make any sense.

Fourthly, it looks like alot of fun. - Again, please elaborate. This doesn't mean anything.

Fifthly, is nothing like an eyetoy, with the exeption of a camera. Heck even the 360 had a camera based game-Totemball. - Well...it's like it, that's for sure. It's certainly not "nothing like it."

Sixthly, it's going to make those Wii like party games and experience way more interactive. - How so? Even if it does, how is this good (or bad)? If people want a wii and "Wii like party games" then they would buy one.

Seventhly, alot of the games we are seeing now are standard launch titles we see for every new technological advance. And they look pretty good at this point in development. - Kinectimals is not what many would considera"standard launch" title.

Eighthly, alot of you guys are hating just to hate and thats just wrong.- What about Hitler or serial killers or cockroaches? People are allowed to hate whatever they want and you shouldn't hate for hating. That's not cool.

Ninthly, that so called Kinetic crashing video was not a crash but some one disconnecting the Kinect, pressing the power button or pausing and trying to end the game. Also it could have been all those camera flashes going off too. - I've never seen the video. At the demo I went to, it performed flawlessly, although an xbox did freeze, haha.

Tenthly, and most importantly Kinetic is not for you hardcore gamers. Its for gamers that want to experience something different. And not trying to be all things to everybody like Sony, I don't want to play KZ3 with the Move, the DS3 works just fine. - Hmm... but you can play party games and other do other things with the Move too.

-Ninja_Dog-

At a mall in San Diego a Microsoft Store's grand opening had a big fiasco with rides and party games anddance contests for prizes... and a kinect demo. I playeda littleand got a "I'm a PC" shirt. The shirt wasbetter than the demo.Kinect was terrible... in every way that people are assuming, and saying, it is terrible.

It has been more or less confirmed than the price will be 149.99$.

Or 100$ if you get it with the 360 S bundle, but even then M$ decided to bundle the thing with the hard-driveLESS console rather than the 250GB. Foolish move IMO.

I'll get one after it fails and drops in price like I did with the HD-DVD drive. Child of Eden and Sonic Free Riders look like they're at least worth trying. It'd give them a shot if I could pick up a Kinect unit on the cheap. Kinect Adventures could also be worth a few yuks.

Well, good news. Child of Eden works with Kinect, and without Kinect..as it works with a standard 360 controller. Also, Child of Eden is also coming to PS3, using Move or not using MOVE. So, you have some options for that game.

It's all about the exclusives for me...

Using analog sticks for Child of Eden would just degrade the experience so much, the game wouldn't be the same. Might as well call it a Kinect/Move game. :P After something happens to either your PS3 or 360, it'll be relatively exclusive. I think the tagline speaks for itself: "Explore your senses".

This is my opinion of Kinetic.

And not trying to be all things to everybody like Sony, I don't want to play KZ3 with the Move, the DS3 works just fine.

everyone is entitled to their opinion nothing wrong with that. for me, it doesnt look cool at all. none of the games at e3 looked like fun. a majority of kinect games just looked like wii clones. agree with 2nd point. i play more core titles, so i'd rahter use my controller. 6th point, how will it make the experience way more interactive? 7th, i think the launch games look terrible, not fun at all. which game do you think looks like the most fun? 8th, yes some people are just hating to hate, but i think a lot of them hate, because it just doesnt look that great. 9th, demos crash, i dont have a problem with that. i have a problem with the games looking like they dont work, or have a hard time doing the body tracking. example the ubisoft game that incorrectly showed height of the lady doing the demonstration. 10th, experience something different? they showed a bunch of wii clones. i too dont want to play kz3 with the move, but i wouldnt want to play forza with kinect either.

Kinect looks great, but its also a gamble.

its all gonna be shovelware for a while.... if it catches on maybe we will see some great games down the line for it. Its a very very versatile peice of hardware. I dont knock it for having no hardcore games, because the games dont effect the hardware... and the hardware creates a ton of possibilities.

But at 150 bucks for pre existing owners, i dont see this thing getting much of a hardcore following. I would easily pay that if i thought it could get the market penetration it needs with the hardcore crowd... and get some actual devs looking at the thing. As it stands i think this thing will be a major hit with the casuals, moms will be all over the fitness games, teenage girls will be all over the dance games, and kids will be all over kinect adventures.

its a pretty big winning combo for the thing... when the kids and teenage girls ask for it, rather than moms giving the usual... "its too expensive" spiel... they will secretly want to be doing yoga with the thing and will buy it for them.

If history proves anything, it's that you can't launch a major peripheral this late into a console's lifespan. SEGA 32X, SEGA CD, e-Reader, Starpath Supercharger, Expansion Pak, EyeToy, etc. Wii Motion Plus and the Balance Board are the only semi-successful examples, but both of them came out earlier in the Wii's lifespan and neither have more than 35 tiles available and the Balance Board looks essentially dead. Releasing a major peripheral six years into a console's lifespan is insane. It inherently limits your available audience. In order to make a Kinect game you have to ignore the 40+million 360 owners that don't already have Kinect.

I dont think the same logic follows for motion controls, major peripherals fail at convincing current console gamers to buy in. But the casuals, which do not own a 360... will eat this thing up.

I fully expect kinect to be a huge hit. But i see very little overlap between the kinect adopters and current 360 owners happening... essentially MS is going to be running 2 entirely separate platforms.

I already have an EyeToy and so far all of the Kinect game demos look exactly the same as playing Eyetoy games.

No!

I already have an EyeToy and so far all of the Kinect game demos look exactly the same as playing Eyetoy games.

I'd love to see these Eyetoy games that look and play exactly like that. Could you show me some? Maybe I can just save myself some money and buy that instead.

I have no plans of purchasing Kinect, or a 360 for that matter. Most of the Kinect games, with the exception of the dancing titles, don't look very fun.

I predict you will never get one based on that crietria :P

Price drop....pretty much a lock. But fail? If the manufacturing facilities get destroyed by some freak accident or crazed fanboy.

I expect this thing to sell like crazy.

Why would someone who doesn't already have a 360 buy an Xbox and Kinect when Wii is only 200 dollars (and comes with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and a Motion Plus adapter)? Wii has franchises with both hardcore and casual appeal. Games like Kinect Sports and Kinectimals will appear to be nothing more than Wii Sports and Nintendogs rip offs. The only original looking game for Kinect is Child of Eden, and if Rez was any indication it will have close to zero casual appeal. That just leaves Sonic Free Riders. as being part of a series that people recognize at launch. While Sonic games do generally sell well, there are three other Sonic games being released this year for already widely available platforms. And honestly, Sonic 4, Sonic Colors Wii, and Sonic Colors DS will all likely be better games than Free Riders.
