Gameplay is incredibly boring and it just seems so repetitive. I know you can say that about any game that has the same play mechanics throughout, but this game just stands out even more so as just following the same repetitive task and steps. Boring. I just don't care to complete it.

I've found all of Rockstar's work this gen to be very overrated, so I'm not surprised. If I play it, I am going in with low expectations.

Do you have the 360 version? Disc swapping can get repetitive I agree. Joking aside, I'm still on homicide and I think the game has been epic so far.

It doesn't feel like a rockstar game. I really enjoyed GTA 4 and Red Dead. This is unlike any of their past games.

That's because Team Bondi developed it, not Rockstar.

Homicide part is indeed the most repetitive part, and there is a reason behind that which is revealed later. Things get better with Ad Vice and Arson Desk is pretty exhilarating.

totally overated my initial halfway through score of 8 has been downgraded to a 7 after finishing it.

although the face thing needs to be a programming tool and widely implemented i give that a 10.

I have 2 cases left and I've loved it so far. 1 case frutrated me so far but as far as gameplay goes I don't find it repetitive. I can see where people are coming from saying that but this game just feels so refresing and original compared to the flood of FPS's this gen. The story, acting, gameplay, music, and world are all so incredble.

I've beaten it, I liked everything about it in general, even the ending. Don't feel its overrated, 9/10 seems right. Its unique and fun.

RDR and LA Noire are only games ever touched by Rockstar that I've beaten, and both are games I had way more fun with than any GTA.

Good game with overhyped face technology thing. Overall, it's overrated just like other R* published games(this gen) even for someone not expecting GTA style like me.

I was disappointed with it. It's fairly promising in the beginning, what with the noir look (the black and white benefits well) and classic setting, but the cases started to become way too tedious by the time you do that fetch quest in homicide, which, by the way, had set pieces that were so out of place for what it was going for. You end up looking at clues that have no relevance whatsoever to the case you're investigating. The interrogations were wildly inconsistent. It's so blatantly obvious when a character would be hiding something from you (squirming around, eyes wondering all over the place, etc.), and when you do doubt a character, it pretty much feels like you're accusing them of lying. Speaking of lying, I found it funny when you did accuse the suspect to be lying, you would insult them like they're scum, then you would have the option of just backing out, saying something like (and I'm paraphrasing here), "I'm sorry.. my mistake." The game just didn't have a coherent plot whatsoever. I was expecting a string of plot lines that strung together in noir-ish fashion, not individual cases that had no significance to a bigger picture. Sure, there were "twists," like that lousy affair plot-line, but they just felt like twists for the sole reason of having a twist. Also, that ending really stunk..
You end up not playing as the main character for a couple of missions, then all of a sudden they throw him in there at the end in a brief moment in the sewer. You could just tell the developers were going for a powerful moment, but it just did not work. Him looking up and uttering a word that escapes my mind did nothing for me.
I suppose it could be because of my hype for the game prior to it's release, but I just found way too many problems with the game. Fun in the beginning, then just dropping the ball a few cases later.

Hmm.... I don't play on consoles but Jimmy is the most consolized dud on SW so the game must be utter trash if he thinks it's dumbed down.

I'd say don't count the game out until you get to the Arson Desk. Game picked up immensely for me after that. Also Homicide drags on too long. I know why they did it but they should've cut out at least one of the repetitive cases. But yeah stick with it I'd say, you may be like me and my friends and love the last few hours.

Watched the first 40 minutes of it and it looked like a bore. Big difference between paying homage to the Noir genre (max payne) and playing with conventions, instead of just recycling cliches too I might add.

The faces don't even look that good. The ol' uncanny valley effect, where they might resemble the voice actors but a lot of them look like they're from the same mould or their expressions dont change.

Heres the thing for me... On its own its not the best game ive ever played. Driving is finicky at best and it feels a little bare bones as an over all experience, ie, you pretty much do the same things throughout rinse and repeat. I give it extra points however because it is a new experience with new gameplay elements in that dares come out in a sea of COD clones etc... I will always applaud and root for the dev that takes a chance. I didnt expect perfection on this game but now that its out and I see its future potential I will enjoy this game and expect even more next time around.

I think that was the problem with most people who hated the game. They saw a Rockstar logo on the case and automatically thought it was another GTA like game.

I think far too many people walked into LA noire expecting Grand Theft Auto experience when it's almost as far away from that as it can get. Can't blame Rockstar for you not researching the game before picking it up.

This "you should have went into the game with a different mentality" is absurd. The fact that the game is called LA Noire kind of tips the player off that it will be revolved around the conventions of the noir genre.

I picked up the 360 version and I'm about 30-40% through it.. And I must say that it's pretty damn good but it does get a bit repetitive.

**** POSSIBLE SOILERS****

After 4-5 dead women in a row it's becomes a matter of fingering obvious suspects that you know didn't do it. I'm sure the game opens up more towards the middle/end but so far it's.. watch a cut-scene of some women being bludgeoned, investigate the crime scene, talk to suspects/witnesses, interrogate someone and charge them with a crime, wash, rinse and repeat. Sure there's the occasional side mission that involves you killing someone, but anyone can tell it's simply filler.. still a good game though.

I was hoping more for a private eye sort of thing, like, guy working behind a lone desk, having dames come in with their problems. More Noire language too. But I did really like the game anyways. :P

This game was immensly disappointing. Agree with sammyjenkis's whole post. I was expecting a great mystery, awesome story. What I got was a stiff character who eventually got into an affair, apparently had a family, and I was supposed to care. It's a game of choice, yet tells you how to play. Seriously, every single interrogation would end the same way, and if it were to end differently, you'd fail the mission. I was under the impression that every single choice you made would impact the entire game, yet there would never be a different ending.

Also.
Cole dies and I had no reason to care. And the last scene with him reaching up from the water is absurdly lame.
LOL. Same thing happened to me at Homicide(except for last case) and Vice section. I was certain I won't finish the game if not for Rusty -Finbarr- Galloway's witty comments to keep me entertained. Arson's part was the most interesting because of the whole conspiracy stuff.
