Nintendo goes in rhythm and patterns.

Gameboy then gba.

Ds then 3ds.

Wii then wiiu

Nes, then snes.

It’s very clear to me now, that with the announcement of the Switch 2, the follow up console is not going to be a switch.

And for the record, I’m a big Nintendo fan but I don’t like any switch consoles.

Anyone here agree?

Speaking of Rhythm, I'm glad they're making Rhythm Heaven 3

This is barely coherent. What are you trying to say?

Uh, what? You do realize that they’ve already unveiled it and it is indeed a Switch. Switch 2 to be precise.

They mean the console after Switch 2 will be something else. Not a Switch 3.

But what about GameCube? That didn’t have a pattern.

Nintendo doesn't really follow such a pattern.

But that said, yes, I too don't like Switch very much. You sacrifice both price and power of the console to have it be a handheld, an aspect I don't care for. So the handheld aspect, which is making the console more expensive and weaker, is completely wasted on me. I would much rather pay the same (or less, even) to get a more powerful console that isn't portable.

And the N64 as well.

Kinda the same for me.

Wii was a big hit, but didn't do it for me.

Wii U was a traditional Nintendo console, but didn't sell big

Switch, while delivering many great games, was underpowered.

Switch 2 looks to be a hit among gamers, less among casuals. It also looks to bring 4K (upscaled 4K) 60 fps to games I'm looking forward to playing: Zelda, Metroid, etc.

Or make a super powerful console that also happens to be portable.

A gamecube, sort of speak.

Not sure I follow. The GC is not portable, despite having a handle lol.

Making another console that is portable would, again, be a waste.

I'm not against handhelds, in fact I really like handhelds. But ~2 hours of gametime with Switch 2 makes it useless as a handheld. Sacrifice lots of power, comfortability (joycons suck) and get more expensive hardware, just to be able to play a game off the dock for 2 hours? That deal sucks ass.

@allgensgamer:

maybe the Wii could technically count since the graphical processing power wasn't that far ahead of the gamecube's

@Litchie: Steam deck is really powerful. Try to play CBPunk 2077 on there and it drains in 45 minutes.

Same thing with smartphones, extreme power but do anything gaming related with that power and your hands will feel unconfortable with all the heat and the battery will drain fast.

@R4gn4r0k: Yeah, Deck's battery seems really bad too. The only handhelds I want to use are those small handhelds that you have a million of that lasts 10+ hours. It's just annoying otherwise.

Good news they just released another one, so it's a million-and-one by now xD

@poarstman: Well the op was referring to the name and functionality but ya I guess it wasn’t much of a graphical upgrade.

The N64-GameCube is the only time there was no pattern.

@R4gn4r0k: battery life doesn't matter on handheld as much nowadays. You can get a portable powerbank that will extend the battery life for 5 or 6h

I get what you're trying to say, but I think Nintendo may have found their place in the market. The problem is that everyone is making handhelds now, however, they don't have the studios Nintendo owns.
