In its history, Gamespot has never overrated a game as much as MGS4.

Ok, now I wish a PC game had won GOTY. If a Wii game had won it, cows and lemmings would have whined and complained that Wii is crap and sheep would go on about 2 GOTYs in a row. If an X360 game had won, cows would call GS biased and lemmings would say shut up and only GS counts here and tell cows that GS isnt biased...basically the reserve of whats happening now. But with PC, it seems generally accepted that if you can afford it, its one of the best ways (if not the best way) to game and while some die hard console gamers would complain the majority would just say "what? oh man...oh well" and move on. :(II_Seraphim_II

At the time that it came out. I would not have disagreed with that score. The game is fantastic, and it's my favorite sports game ever.

MGS4 didn't even deserve AAA. At best, it was a gimped third person shooter with tacked on stealth elements and horrible multiplayer which no-one even cared about after 10 minutes. They actually tried to westernize it and the series suffered because of it. The storyline was as needlessly convoluted as in past installments, as well as overly pretentious.

Can anyone seriously name a game that was nearly as overrated? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 at least set a new standard for its genre, MGS4 pales in comparison to other TPS, and isn't even at the front of the stealth scene anymore. This gen, the mediocre party game Super Smash Bros Brawl and disappointing Halo 3 are the only candidates that come within a mile of being as overrated, and still can't match how badly overrated MGS4 was.

I think MGS4 deserved everything it was everything a great sequel should be Gears 2 was highly overrated imo i found it to be very much like the first with a few upgrades not much in the style of change if you look at all the MGS series something has always been changed to make for improvement and MGS4 showed that by making it probably one of the best if not the best in the series.Solid_Max13

I agree MGS4 is way overrated. It isn't very good if you compare it so other games.

The only thing going for the game is the story which you will not get at all if you haven't played the other 3 MGS games. So In reality the game to me is an average Action adventure title with a great story but you can only understand it if you played the other 3 MGS titles.

Its a game made for fans only really.

If you're a fan, MGS4 is an amazing game. If you're not a fan, MGS has a gushing storyline, is 75% cut scene, and wont really appeal to you at all. Some reviews chose to take that into account, others went the more fanboyish route and scored it as MGS fans. KVO scored the game as a metal gear solid fan, not as a reviewer. I think that's about as reasonable as you can put it. MGS4 is an amazing game for MGS fans, but it's not going to be of even the slightest interest to those who havent played the other three.Ninja-Hippo

It didnt deserve a 10 thats true , maybe not the most overrated but ... I dont know how a game that is over after you beat it 2-3 times with no Great multiplayer can score 10.... NO game without an awesome multiplayer should get a 10 , 10 years ago it would be understandable but 2008 a game needs to be great not only in singelplayer but also multiplayer. Movie of the year for sure , MGS4 is a great movie, It is a perfect 10 movie.ps3weee

I was fine with your opinion until you called Brawl a party game and Halo dissapointing. You're just hating on popular games. People like you are...annoying. MGS4 was overrated, but it's not a "gimped 3rd person shooter"...it's has really solid shooting mechanics and it's stealth features are like..never before seen. The Octocamo takes the colour and texture of your terrain so you can hide in plain sight; and it happens in real time. No pressing start and putting on a new camoflauge. Anyyyyways.deluxemando

Okay....you guys should have until January the 1st with this complaining. When that day comes.....cut it out. Get over it. It was a great game, and an OKAY movie. It was a bargain....where else can you get a game and a movie for that price. Why would you complain about getting MORE than usual.
