Yep this is pretty accurate. I haven't seen a single game on the PS3 that couldn't be done on the 360 much less the PC. Which if I'm reading this correctly he is saying inFAMOUS 2 couldn't be done on the PC either as the says "any other platform".

I'm saying ND is pushing the power of the PS3 and the graphics. Who knows if they could do the same on the XBox 360? Also ID Software "RAGE" may give Uncharted 2 a good run. I thought Gears 2 had incredible graphics as well and Gears 3 is suppose to look even better. So we'll see. There hasn't been any other PS3 games to match Uncharted 2 either. GoW3? No Killzone 2? No Resistance 2? No GT5? No.

on this board exists this dumbfounded notion, no surprise its from people outside the game industry, where people on here wan to think that game developers, who make sony exclusive games such as those currently working at sucker punch, have always only made sony exclusive games throughout their entire careers

heres a newsflash for some people, some of the game developers currently at sucker punch, which is located in the seattle area, have previously worked at another famous game studio in the seattle area? care to guess what that company was?

Nahh. Probably because inFamous 2 will be much larger than the first one and that it'll take up more than 20GB in size so it'll be on 1 BD for PS3. I don't think it'll possible for 360 but at least PC is much more powerful than PS3 now.

what they specifically said was they couldnt make gears 1 on 256mb of ram im not aware of any consoles with only 256mb of ram and im definitely not aware of any console gpus that only have access to 256mb of ram

We can only speculate can't we? Also its amazing to see so many people posting on SW with in depth knowledge of videogames development.Yes the dev may have his cheques cashed by Sony,but I'll bet he's more knowledgeable on the subject than 99.9% of the posters arguing back and forth here.

Oh and whatever the truth, out of MS and Sony,only one is actually consistently pushing their console with high quality and technically outstanding exclusives.

Does Sony now require their developers to say this before they will publish a game? It seems like every time a new exclusive comes out some chuckle head has to say this same crap, Even though people with common sense know that both systems are pretty evenly matched.

Of course it can only be done on the PS3 because that's all you coded it for you nimrod...sheesh. Reach can only be done on the Xbox, SMG2 can only be done on the Wii....

lol yeah most people here think that they have more knowledge than actual videogame programmers.

they don't have to program for certain system to know the capabilities and what can and can't be done on it, sucker punch should know the system specs of both PS3 and Xbox 360 they know what can fit and can't fit on the system.

I bet you if microsoft themselves said certain PS3 games can't be done on Xbox 360 most of you will find excuses as well lol

Im sorry you seem to be confused. There is an order to which they came out and gained recognition.

1. Resisteance 2, that game was never considered best on consoles.

2. Killzone 2 was said to be best on consoles when it released by official reviews or game journailsts/ not fanboys,

3. After KZ2 no game got that recognition as best gfx on consoles until Uncharted 2 released and it was called the best by officaial reviews or game journilists/not fanobys.

4 After UC2 no game got recognition as the absolute best on consoles by offical review or game journists EXCEPT GOW3.

Sorry but that's not evidence at all. Porting games does not follow optimization on said platforms. If the game were to be PS3 or 360 exclusive and designed and adapted to its particular architecture then we could estimate its real potential. That's why exclusive games should be used as the criteria for hardware potential because developers actually care for optimization and exclusive design choices in those cases.

But at the same time they become so different that it's like comparing an apple to an orange: no common base. That's why multiplats have to be used: at least they have common objective points against which to compare.

Your very un-educated on gaming consoles, Bluray discs allow more space for games and better in-game graphics, Microsoft uses usual dvds that simplyare not as powerful as a bluray disc when it comes to size and graphics. Sad but true, those are facts.

And you're unaware of a certain limitation of gaming consoles and indeed any computer system in general. They can only run programs off memory. An optical disc is not memory (too slow--not even hard drives reach that point). To that end, both consoles possess the same amount of RAM--512MB. That means both consoles have about the same limits when it comes to how much information it is able to access at any one time. This includes graphics since GPUs can only render using material found in RAM. Therefore, texture sizes will face similar limitations not because of the disc size limit but because of the RAM limit.

why is this thread still going?

things we can all agree on:

- people outside the game industry know more than people inside the game industry
- people who dont make games know more than people who do make games
- no one at sucker punch has ever worked on a 360
- screenshots let us know what kind of complex data a CPU is processing and how fast
- people who dont make games can read that data through screenshots
- xdr ram clocked at the same speed as Cell poses no advantages versus being clocked at 500mhz



am i forgetting anything?

Sucker Punch is not Sony. What do you fail to understand about that?

When you're under contract to someone else, you have to follow that contract's terms (and if you're contracted to a entertainment company--like Sony--you normally can't vouch for "the other guys"). So as long as they're under contract to Sony, they may as well be a part of Sony. That's why the Kojima angle. Kojima plugged the PS3 like map, and they were developing under a Sony agreement also (in this case, a product-placement sponsorship).

Well 360 still needs to pump out a game that is better looking that Killzone 2, GoW3, and Uncharted 2... so I don't thinkthese devs are blindly saying these things.

The only difference is that there is a presedent set already,UT3 runs on PS3 just as good as on 360 even that the xbox 360 has more ram,which is a lie they both had the same ammount distribute differently without counting the 10MB extra for 360.

The engine in which Gears run UE3 also works and run just as fine on PS3,now Infamous 2 engine has never been show running on 360 that is a presedent.

The only difference is that there is a presedent set already,UT3 runs on PS3 just as good as on 360 even that the xbox 360 has more ram,which is a lie they both had the same ammount distribute differently without counting the 10MB extra for 360.

The engine in which Gears run UE3 also works and run just as fine on PS3,now Infamous 2 engine has never been show running on 360 that is a presedent.

And at the same time the Reach engine has never been seen on the PS3. Other side of the coin. Apples to oranges; no way to say for certain.

Yes and your point is.? because Halo Reach is far from impressive,it doesn't even beat Killzone 2 which is almost 2 years olds,hell even if the engine could not run on PS3 that would still say nothing the game if far from been a power house for graphics or close.

Is funny how Carmack say the GPU is faster on 360,but when it comes to CPU he say they are about the same,which is a utter lie every one know Cell is a much better CPU than Xenon is and do allot of things the Xenon just can't do,that is the problem with developer of multiplatform tittle they don't want to work on cell and want to run it all on the RSX,Carmack has complain for everything on the PS3 from been weak to be more complicated you name it,but he hans't make a game yet that surpass Killzone 2 on consoles,gears 2 did not for sure.
