Ok this is a COD related thread but not so much about the new game. Now if this is the wrong place for this thread, I apologize I would gladly like to know where this thread it better suited, but I figured that this is relating to a very popular franchise, and people in SW are the most active therefore this would be the best place to put this thread. Anyway, on to the thread:

Do you think that Infinity Ward was justified in their rude and insulting comments towards Treyarch? Personally, while I dont agree with anyone making rude remarks to anyone for any reason, I can kind of understand where IW was coming from. Just looking at COD: Black Ops, I think to myself, "If IW hadnt made COD4, would Black Ops be the same?" Think about it, 90% (internet stats FTW) of the things that people are excited about in Black Ops are things that COD4 introduced, or Black Ops is merely augmenting. Treyarch is basically taking COD4 and adding a bit more to it. Now from a general stand point, there is nothing wrong with this seeing as its in the same franchise, but from a developer stand point, this is the equivalence of plagiarism. They are basically taking IW's game, changing a few things and taking full credit.

Now don't misread me, while i have some issues with some aspects of the COD4+ franchise, I still enjoy them greatly. Not my first pick for FPS, but when I get them, I play the hell out of them! I am actually looking forward to Black Ops, its looks like it could be a lot of fun...I'm just curious as to what you guys think. I know its a bit late in the game to ask this, but it just popped up in my head as I was watching the COD:BO jungle video.

Treyarch has added a lot to the series, from sprint to the ability to cook grenades to zombie mode, which Infinity Ward borrowed from when they made Spec Ops, and now they're adding theater and training, and a whole host of other things. And they've almost always told a better story in campaign mode. I don't think it's fair at all. You didn't see Bungie crying when Ensemble made Halo Wars.

Yeah but lets be honest here, as fun as Zombie mode was, we can all agree that all the things that IW brought to the COD franchise far outweigh zombie mode. And on a completely unrelated note, does anyone else have this huge space at the top of the page where the thread title is?

In all fairness, Halo Wars and Halo Main Series are 2 separate genres. There really isnt much that Ensemble could take from the Halo games, except the lore.

Well honestly I think the series would be better if only one of the devs handled the series. That way it gets released every 2 years and stops this oversaturation garabage.

Now the question is Treyarch or IW?

Trwyarch has always been second rate compared to IW and also the only reason most people know about Treyarch is because of the CoD games which were made famous because of IW. Truth is for years Treyarch has coasted on the success of IW.

Yeah, but Infinity Ward just seems upset that someone else got to work on THEIR franchise, to the point where Treyarch wasn't allowed to make numbers based installments. Hell, even Infinity Ward sees CoD4 as CoD3 (as seen in the PC version of Call of Duty 4 and the credits). It's just funny how they think they've made something so SPECIAL, and how important it is that no one else works on THEIR series, when it's really nothing to write home about.

They're also using IW's engine. People here keep referring to it as the Quake III engine (and a large part of the source code is Quake III) but apparently it's known as the 'IW engine.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IW_engine

OP's right, no COD4 and Treyarch sure as hell would not be producing the COD games that they've made. I would say it is kind of insulting to IW and they'd have a right to be pissed off; especially now that Activision stabbed them in the back the way they did. All they can do is sit and watch as their FPS staple is stolen and tweaked by a less talented developer. It will be interesting to see what Respawn Entertainment comes up with next.

You gotta feel somewhat bad for IW. First a large amount of staff making Allied Assault for EA broke off to form IW and join Activison, and now they've made another studio back at EA. *shrugs*

Honestly, IW is a bit of a lame duck at the moment and seeing Treyarch one-up them and do a better job with COD than they did (especially now that a good portion of the studio went to Respawn), I can understand them being a little oversensitive.

This about it, Dark Siders, is objectively a better game than Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time...speaking OBJECTIVELY WITHOUT NOSTALGIA. Does that mean that the devs of Dark Siders one upped Ninty? Of course not, since they borrowed from the innovations brought forth by Ninty in their Zelda franchise. Same applies here, if Treyarch makes a better game, it is largely in part due to IW's hard work.

A lot of the criticism I saw was more directed at Treyarch and Activision execs (hyping a Treyarch release) when they'd start speaking (inaccurately) about the IW games.

treyarch is FORCED by activision to copy IW. CoD3 was a lot different from other CoDs and it was made by treyarch, it was a fantastic game but not many peopleliked it so its obvious activison would want Treyarch to copy IW after the success of MW. Treyarch just gets way too much hate imo they are great devs and IW are just being arrogant now. i remember before the release of WaW some treyarch dev something about MW and 402 (IW community manager or something) went crazyon that guy for mentioning MW. thats just silly.

Can't blame IW, it's totally reasonable that they wanted to be the ones to slam the Call of Duty brand into the ground, they did begin the series.

I give props to Infinity Ward for making COD4 but Treyarch is a better dev. There were just locked to WW2 so they couldn't fully achieve there best. COD:BO will clearly show people Treyarch is better. Treyarch makes a way better single player and the multiplayer seems to be better than MW/MW2 in features.

IW are just pissed they didn't do a better job on MW2 to be given the development rights... Treyarch brought almost everything into the cod series that IW used so why should IW bash something that Treyarch practically created long before MW? Ignorance and selfish of IW to think they are better than Treyarch even though IW did exactly the same thing.

I take it IW is developing Black Ops cos they did so great before? Take another look. IW are hated and created a terribly unbalanced game with massive flaws, Treyarch are clearing up the mess IW made.

They have added a lot, but they can't really mess around with the core gameplay too much now with the huge fanbase, did IW change much from COD4? In fact they even removed dedicated servers from PC version And Spec Ops was poo compared to Zombie Mode (which IW laughed at). Play Spec Ops once, get your stars, never touch it again... Recycled COD4 missions. So no, I respect Treyarch, COD BO is looking good. Shame about Activision though.

Treyarch didnt fix any of the problems present in CoD4 when they made WaW, neither did IW when they released MW2. So in reality they both suck.

lol, if there is anything I hate its arrogance. Even though IW made COD into what it is today with COD 4, TA was stuck making 2-3 games a year while making the COD games, but ever since the whole IW/Activision fiasco, all COD focus was mainly put on TA's "shoulders", enabling TA to only focus on COD titles, resulting in COD BO (Which seems to trounce MW2 in every possible way). To call TA a second-rate dev with all of the constraints theve had before making BO with other CODs is just unfair

II_Seraphim_II

I agree completely...it had to very hard for IW to watch another company, Treyarch, take IW's COD gaming engine, COD gaming assets, and watch another company make a COD game with your game title (COD in this case). They created COD, it was theirs, and that must have been hard to watch.

Treyarch is a competent developer, but they never made a AAA COD game, or a AAA metascoring game ever that I can recall.

I'm a COD fan as I own all the COD's, but both companies bothered me here and there, but just looking at this from IW's perspective, I understood it from the get go.

Also, IW was destroyed by ACTIVISION, so while the name IW may remain, they are dead. Respawn ftw.

It was very hard for id to watch IW take their engine and call it their own during the COD4 era. Hence the "this title is using technology licensed from id Software" at the start of Mw2, I guess!:P

The Soviet campaign of WaW is the best campaign in any COD.

And these people worked on stuff like Return To Castle Wolfenstein and Die By The Sword... Great people work at Treyarch.

(Threat title) is totally justified. Treyarch are hacks, they stole from Infinity Ward and continue to do so. Their ripping off of the mod community's "Gun Game" and shamelessly advertising it as the hot new feature of Black Ops solidifies this. Treyarch deserves Infinity Ward's spite like IW deserves the gaming community's spite.

While Treyarch's CoD games haven't been as good and have mainly shadowed the IW CoD games, IW is definitely unfair in their treatment of them, especially whenever Treyarch brings a new, cool idea to CoD and IW decides not to use said idea. I mean, they were put after the caterers in the credits for CoD4: Reflex, a game they made. Is that fair?

When Treyarch starts doing more then just taking a COD game and reskinning it then added loads of glitches and problems to it then I'll be more inclined to agree till then that all Treyarch is they activisions go to guy to get a cheap game out their to make money on an existing franchise name. It doesn't help that treyarch has no concept of competent game design MW-WaW was amazing they introduced so many glitches in gameplay, map glitches and outright problems.

Well I don't really think rudeness to Treyarch is justified but WaW was a carbon copy of COD4 ( atleast the onlinemultiplayer) andsure they deserve credit for the features they've added (Zombies, Co-op,theatre) but the core gameplay is lifted straight from Infinity Wards games aswell as some of the mission designs .(Except for CoD3 which Ihavent played it, but as far I know its very different from the rest of the series)

Quoted for truth. W@W to this day remains the high point of the series to me, and is the only CoD game I still play regularly. I can hardly wait for Black Ops.

[QUOTE="SilentlyMad"]Trwyarch has always been second rate compared to IW and also the only reason most people know about Treyarch is because of the CoD games which were made famous because of IW. Truth is for years Treyarch has coasted on the success of IW.JohnF111
I take it IW is developing Black Ops cos they did so great before? Take another look. IW are hated and created a terribly unbalanced game with massive flaws, Treyarch are clearing up the mess IW made.

No, IW isn't developing Black Ops because daddy Kotick has a schedule :P.

Same here. I didn't like CoD4 all that much, but I really enjoyed W@W.

I personally prefer Treyarch over IW. Devs that made some of my favorite FPS games, Kingpin and Return to Castle Wolfenstein ended up in Treyarch working on CoD games. And IMO CoD3 is underrated while CoD WaW is the best in the series. On the other hand CoD2, CoD4 and MW2 - I just couldn't get into any of them. CoD1 was good though.

No one cares about CoD3, dude. Not even the people who prefer the Treyarch games.

I think Treyarch are the better devs, not just in talent but in support. Treyarch really tried to keep up with the glitches in WaW until Activision pulled them off the game for good.

Considering it was Infinity Ward's decision to release a ****ing horrible PC port, I personally think they should shut up and actually learn how to program something that was made in 1996.

Treyarch (along with Nerve Software) made Return To Castle Wolfenstein, which is one of my favorite games of all time. I have faith that they can make a AAA game again, and I hope Black Ops will be it.

please edit post and provide link to an article about the comments made about Treyarch please anyhow, I think Treyarch is very talented, first off they made COD3 in 8 months, while all other COD games take about 24 months, including a working PS3 port at PS3 launch while many developers couldn't even do that, as well as a Wii port, and Xbox 360 and Xbox port, and PS2 port though it's the least favorite of them (probably because it was rushed) anyhow, they redeemed themselves to me with COD World At War, loved that one, and I'm very much looking forward to Black Ops

My favorite COD games is COD4, 2nd best would be W@W even if the game felt rushed. But I candefinitely see that Treyarch has talent when given the right amount ofdevelopment time. Sure most of theirborrow from the COD games IW made, butbelieve blackops will out do anything IW has ever done.
