About time it got a publisher...this game was in limbo for how long exactly?

Here's hoping the thing scales better than Crysis...

skrat_01

Eh 1 million in two months is pretty damn good for a game that requires high end hardware.

I don't think 'high end' even begins to describe it. -_-

I'm sorry, but I never really saw what was exciting about Project Offset besides its graphics. From what I read from the developer's website a while back it sounded more like they were trying to advertise the game engine rather than the game itself, as if the game was really just supposed to be a tech demo for the engine they wanted to license.

Don't get our hopes too early my fellow hermit brothers.

There's nothing official about Offset being PC exclusive. Yet.

I don't think many PC gamers care about exclusivity as much as this game will surely be the next technology pusher. At this point, it's almost certain that it won't be made for the lowest common denominator. I can't think of another reason Intel would purchase it.

I don't know, I bought a new 8800GT for $250 bucks and it runs Crysis on High Settings, no AA, and it runs buttery smooth. The 8800GT isn't considered highend next to the GTX. I'm fine with that. Now the 9600GT's just came out, MSRP is a max of $210 bucks.

I've had the same rig for two years now and it ran Crysis perfectly fine. *Shrugs*

I was expecting more from the 9600GT. It doesnt even beat the 8800GT in benchmarks. You can get the 9600GT at newegg for $180 right now. Still not bad even though it performs just under the 8800GT. Im just waiting to see how these 9800s handle things.

I've checked it out. The 9600 is meant to be a direct replacement for the 8600. Which stinks becuase 9800's are still prohibitively expensive. Guess it's back to the 8800GTS for now.

As for Project Offset, I agree this appears to be a strategic move to maintain a cadre of high-performance games--needed to help maintain momentum for graphics development. The next question will be: what will Intel do with this product now? Considering its roots, I have a feeling they won't publish the game themselves. They don't have the face value in the software world. Odds are they'll tap a reliable publisher for the job. They could ask EA to do it (they publish Crysis--and are lovin' it), just as an example. Another possibility is digital distribution, such as through Steam.

So Intel have finally decided to promote their processors more? I guess they are starting to feel intimidated by IBM's work on consoles.

I think it's more they don't want to get ahead of themselves. They've got quad-cores on the desktop and plan to put octos into your desktop by 2010...but they need something to justify people buying those things. Same for the GPU makers. Without cutting-edge stuff, there's no incentive to keep improving GPUs...nor incentive for people to buy them.

Anyone think that this and the PC Gaming Alliance having just been formed (which Intel is a part of) is a coincidence? Noop!

I had an idea that Intel was going to make a move on the Project Offset team. I wouldn't be surprised if we see much deeper alliances moving forward. The PC is about to get a really solid backing from the hardware people. This should be awesome for PC gamers everywhere!
