why would they do that? the current model works best for them and piracy brings them more sales. for how long though is another question.SamiRDuran
Because the current model is headed for a wall. Game companies aren't building high-end pc exclusives which reduces the need to upgrade. Both Nvidia and AMD depend on high-end graphic cards sales for profits. The latest Nvidia card was built for games that don't exist. I think it is great that the gpu war has slowed down but the reduced need to upgrade is going to cut into their profits.

I'm not a fan of PC gaming dying, so i'd have to agree with the idea of AMD, Intel, Valve, and nVidia pumping money into companies just to see PC versions.

I personally believe that if this idea was to taken into practice, their first priority should be Square-Enix Japan, solely for acquiring Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

That would be a very bad move since those type of games aren´t very popular among PC gamers ;)

I thought only the console haters would not want those games.

If you think about it, the popularity of Final Fantasy would attract gamers. Imagine if the PC was imbued with such popularity. Plus, since we're talking about the PC, you won't those idiots who are too stupid to realize that the PC has done better graphics than what we have seen in FFXIII.

I know what you mean, but FF games were on the PC before and the sales were so poor that Square stopped making PC versions of those games. I would be happy to see those games on the PC since that means more variety of genres to choose from but in the end, they would probably be massive flops all over again.

The pc already has more exclusives than all the consoles put togeather already. So what would be the point unless your talking about certain types of games that are not popular on pc like platformers ??

Some games that aren't multiplat aren't on the PC are of a genre that is better played with a mouse and keyboard.

Games like the more recent singleplayer FF games, if ported to the PC, could prevent certain death of PC gaming due to their popularity.

Pc gaming is more popular than ever, never before have you been able to build a gaming pc for so little.

Wasn't shattered horizon funded by nvidia?

topgunmv

It was created by Futuremark who also make 3Dmark software.

I think if Nvidia and ATI were to work closely with PC developers something juicy and delicious would come out of it.

why would they when ATI and Nvidia are making monies off the consoles which have exclusives xD silly silly isnt it?

razgriz_101

Money they make from consoles is piddles compared to high end graphics cards. I think the 360 gpu is actually owned by MS but designed by ATI so they aren't getting a cut from every sale.

they will be manufacturing it and in some form of agreemen will make so much from the sale of each chip to MS still mounts up yes they will make more from ther gpu as they arent a parts supplier if you will but still doesnt mean they dont make a nice bit on the side from those and it could leave a bad taste in console manufacturers mouths and all that.Everything is bout keeping a balance.

Not true. Microsoft owns the IP to the Xenos in toto. They can contract it out to whatever chip foundry they want, leaving AMD/ATI completely out of the loop.

Depends on the cost to port. Now, porting FF7 and 8 (both originally developed for the PlayStation in an environment when gaming PCs were still getting settled in--FF7 used SoundFonts while 8 used DLS, and neither are in common use these days) probably took some doing. But if you'll recall, the development platform for FF13 was Crystal Tools...and was a PC. I think porting FF13 to the PC would be relatively cheap because of this. They're just going to wait until they drain most of the revenue from the console versions first before trying to port. It's the kind of formula recent fighting games have employed (BTW, they have a similar story--their arcade machines are PCs, so porting was easy).

do you think ATI is doing it for free though? still they get revenue from the contract and it most likely means they get some sort of percent on so muc rev :S dont think ATI would be that silly.

Perhaps the only reason for making Crystal Tools PC-based is so that they could sell the engine to other companies, hopefully competing with the already-widespread Unreal Engine 3.

I still personally believe that nVidia, AMD, intel, and Valve should have made an attempt to bribe Square-Enix to port their games to PC.
