Many people are balk to play an RTS with a game-pad. How did you do to make the game playable with a game-pad ? And what do you want to say to people who didn't want buy the game because it is on Xbox and not on computer?

We spent the first six months of the project looking at the controller and it could work with an RTS game. I think our control scheme actually works better than the keyboard/mouse combo and that we have really gotten past that barrier. I can't wait for everyone to pick up the controller and try the game, I don't think it will be possible to convince some people until after they try it.

Thoughts?

I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sorry but rts is one genre I dont ever see translating well to a controller set up (except the wii mote).

Well..you're simply not going to get a gamepad to work with the same degree of precision and mousework.

However, it's just how their control scheme works so we can't bash 'em.

Many developers also think their games are gonna succeed. Most don't.

o god heavens no.

now im sure ensemble have done a great job building the game around the controllers limitations...there industry veterans who know what there doing. so the game should play fine.

but actually beating a keyboard and mouse in a RTS? im sorry but the very idea is just absurd. its like saying that a controller is bettter than a mouse and keyboard at FPSs or a mouse and keyboard is better for a sports game. it clearly isnt.

Sounds like a casual RTS. 20 mins an average game lasts? 10 mins a fast game. Fastest ive seen someone get beat was possibly zerg rush against noobs taking 10 mins. And that was someone really good against someone who played for their like 3rd time.

I think he has thought wrong and when the invetable PC version is announced it will have better controls. Some games are better on gaming pads and others are better on KB/M. that is just how it is.frankeyser

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Halo 3 still hasn't even had a rumor of being ported.

Regardless, I don't expect Halo Wars to get ported. Why would Ensemble spend so much time trying to prove that a controller can be used for an RTS, but then have it ported to the PC?

The demo was a very early version and it still looked very good. Beautiful lighting and animations. And the large scale fight at the end was very interesting. Ensemble says that they are working on the AI at the moment, making the units actually move and shoot instead of standing in place. It's not simplified like people think.

That was hilarious, the guy who said it was important to be able to make 300 actions per minute. A good player is one who knows exactly what actions to make, and only takes one effort to do it. Not clicking on where you want the unit to go 10 times.

It's far from impossible, that's for sure. I know Ensemble can make it happen, I've had faith in them since the game was announced.

It isn't a FPS, it isn't made by bungie, it doesn't have the same casual/hardcore market. A lot of console gamers don't like RTS games but seeing as the name will push sales I'd say 1-1.5 million is the best I can see.

Story? About 50% of people I see online haven't even PLAYED the story they want it for the FPS multiplayer. They'd see the difference between a FPS and a RTS they are complete idiots.

Now that's pure speculation. Most of the people who I play online with have finished the campaign. Why do you think Halo became so popular? Halo had a great story and hyped people up for the second one. Halo 2 had awesome multiplayer and a great story.

If your me and you've been gaming with a pad for the better part of 15 years, then your quicker, sharper, more precise and just better with a gamepad than a Keyboard and mouse.

I'm familiar with RTS' on both consoles and PC, Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, Generals and Red Alert and I would prefer them with a gamepad. I don't care about which is technically more precise, its better for my hands.

He's only stating that he thinks controller > KB/M for Halo Wars. Not all RTS games.

Anyway... I have Dawn of War 2 to wait for... not some meh-grade console RTS with an inferior universe. "Goes back to playing Company of Heroes".

People seem to be missing the point. Nobody here has played Halo Wars, so you dont know how well it plays with a controller. Hermits in defense mode as usual throwing around Starcraft seem to forget this game isnt Starcraft. Who cares what the pro's do in Starcraft? Its completely irrelevant. For all we know, Ensemble might have dumbed this game down so much that it does in fact play better with a pad.

"Story? About 50% of people I see online haven't even PLAYED the story they want it for the FPS multiplayer. They'd see the difference between a FPS and a RTS they are complete idiots."

Now that's pure speculation. Most of the people who I play online with have finished the campaign. Why do you think Halo became so popular? Halo had a great story and hyped people up for the second one. Halo 2 had awesome multiplayer and a great story.

I'm a huge RTS fan infact I'm actually kind've scary good at those games for some weird reason. There is no way a controller will ever be better than keyboard and mouse for this type of game. All good RTS players use a ton of hotkeys which there just aren't enough buttons for on a controller. Also you need a mouse because you need to be able to move large groups of units quickly, but once in battle you need to be able to manage each individually.

Halo has a very basic story with a strong backstory most people don't know about. Halo got famous because of it's multiplayer which then turned online and got even bigger. Single player helped but the multi is what made it massive.

Also Halo 2 had an AWFUL single player with a crap story and the worst level design I saw last gen.
