Even if I didn't dislike all things Apple, I would still buy the Vita on the basis of being able to offer a good gaming experience. For which some sort of buttons are required.
I also asked this question, but seeing as my handheld gaming needs are satisfied by my 3DS, I don't think I'll need a Vita. iPad is useless for games but it's good for other things.
But I'm currently trying to collect funds for an iPad 3, and if that fails, I'll get a Vita instead. :x
It's basically a netbook for people who don't want a keyboard/want to look "stylish and trendy".I also asked this question, but seeing as my handheld gaming needs are satisfied by my 3DS, I don't think I'll need a Vita. iPad is useless for games but it's good for other things.

It's basically a netbook for people who don't want a keyboard/want to look "stylish and trendy". Naw, I just want a portable solution. I used to own a netbook and it was trash. It was slow and it couldn't do much of anything. I converted back to a traditional laptop and it's been smooth sailing, but I rarely take it outside and there are many situations I wish I had a computer with me. iPad sounds like much better solution than netbooks, but of course it can't be my sole device.
Guys I was seriously considering getting a Vita and then I saw what the iPad 3 had under the hood and I have to ask with all that muscle, can the iPad 3 seriously pull some bigtime devs in and get some legit games on it like an actual Madden, NBA 2K, a CoD or BF type FPS and a Skyrim-esque RPG? because if you think about it, the WiFi Vita is $249, but then you need atleast an 8 GB memory card which is like $40. Yes, the Ipad 3 is twice the price of the Vita, but it has so many more capabilities beyond just gaming. I have to think "bang for the buck", the Ipad 3 wins hands down! Maybe the Vita is a better pure gaming device, but maybe not!! Your thoughts?ShoTTyMcNaDeS
You don't KNOW it's more powerful than the Vita. Until that GPU is released I am going under the assumption that it's the same GPU in the Vita for the following reasons:
1. ipads have been using PowerVR SGX series it's entire run and there were NO leaks of them jumping ship.
2. IF they were using unreleased components well ahead of any competition...that would have been discussed more than the "A5X" which I bet is just an overclocked A5.
Finally The Vita uses an A9 which is a quad core. So from what we know, the Vita is currently more powerful.
Oh...and it plays games and only games and has two analog sticks, a great dpad etc.
If you want a gaming device, get a Vita.
Can't imagine playing games like MGS, God of War, Fighters, Uncharted, etc on an Ipad.
A gameboy is a better handheld gaming device than the Ipad.
What's 250? Price of Vita. I don't know how 500 is > 250.500 > 250

I guess my hypothesis is pretty accurate as I dug further and found this. Anandtech is reputable.
ipad 3 is LESS powerful than Vita most likely and that says a LOT about the power of Vita and SGX543MP4 Vs Tegra 3
http://gizmodo.com/5891159/inside-apples-a5x-chipset-dual+core-cpu-quad+core-graphics-not confirmed but the source speculating is reputable. Same GPU as Vita but less powerful CPU

Buy a better spec'd netbook. Then again, some people like tablets (I would personally know a lot about Apple before going that route. I personally hate their overbearing parent-like attitude to their users).
From a gaming standpoint, I'd take the Vita hands-down, even with its issues (like being almost as proprietary as Apple products, down to the USB cables now).NamelessPlayerThis. I hate this "lets modify the shape of a micro-USB simply so we can charge 10x more than what a micro-USB would cost for our cable. Cell phones, game systems, Kindle, etc. I hate this deliberate crapping on consumers with this stuff.
Because we have 3 thumbs?Hey I got the new Game Informer and it has an article that say's Sony is making a device similar to the one on the 3DS to have three thumb sticks. :o

This reply doesn't help my confusion. Why would you need/want 3 thumb sticks when we only have 2 thumbs?I heard Vita's web browser is horrible. Your take?Vita for gaming, most of my use with the tablet is for web browsing when I'm feeling lazy.

3rd stick for the third dimension. Makes sense. :o

Redesign confirmed?
Watch Samsung. They are doing it right (IMO), and have always made quality products.EponiqueI own a Samsung Galaxy S so I would agree when it comes to the smartphone space :P Their tablets have been pretty average though. In the war between iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, I'd pick the iPad 2. The specs are equal for both, but the iPad has the better app store by miles, and the tablets are the same price. The iPad 3 is way ahead of the Galaxy Tab. It's not like the smartphone space where Samsung/Google seem to be a year or two ahead of Apple.
Well I wouldn't compare the third gen ipad against the second gen GTAB, check out the expected specs for their next tab(third gen, then one that you should compare it to), ipad 3 isn't even close. Higher screen res, Arm's cortex-A15. Beast is all I can say.
@sprucecaboose: Yeah, it's not up to par with the high-end smartphones/tablets

I have to argue the point that the Ipad cannot be taken seriously as a gaming platform. Dead Space says HELLLOOOOOOO!!!! If that game can be done, I see no reason why other full scale games wont follow. ShoTTyMcNaDeS
Yeah pair a wireless controller to the Ipad.

Heck, OOT 3D was far more impressive(and thats a 64 game with updated character models/framerate).

What's the res? O_o Anyway I still disagree with the ICS/Honeycomb "one size fits all" approach Google is taking with tablets. I think the "optimized for phones" and "optimized for Tablets" approach by Apple is much better.
Vita is $450 if you want 64GB of memory.
