Yeah the only game that is going to support it is Monster Hunter i bet! ;)

This reply doesn't help my confusion. Why would you need/want 3 thumb sticks when we only have 2 thumbs?

I was going to do a joke about people living by that reactor that blew up last year in Japan but that isn't funny! :(

I appreciate the wit, and the restraint. Good show.

Ok lets get this

Vita an awesome device for $250

Ipad an awesome device for $700

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

lbjkurono23
Vita is $450 if you want 64GB of memory.

Thats still a huge gap... heck you've said that the price gap between the 3ds and vita is enormous(which is $80)... why the change of heart?

I was just trying to show him that it's not fair to pick the most expensive iPad, and then at the same time ignore all the hidden costs of the Vita because it's definitely not $250.

ok you really need to explain wth your talking about because im really gettign all confused here.. the biggest memory out there for vita is 32GB... that costs $100... getting a $250 vita makes the system from $250 to $350.. not $450 because $250+100= what??.. ding! $350!

[QUOTE="Eponique"] I own a Samsung Galaxy S so I would agree when it comes to the smartphone space :P Their tablets have been pretty average though. In the war between iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, I'd pick the iPad 2. The specs are equal for both, but the iPad has the better app store by miles, and the tablets are the same price. The iPad 3 is way ahead of the Galaxy Tab. It's not like the smartphone space where Samsung/Google seem to be a year or two ahead of Apple.Eponique

Well I wouldn't compare the third gen ipad against the second gen GTAB, check out the expected specs for their next tab(third gen, then one that you should compare it to), ipad 3 isn't even close. Higher screen res, Arm's cortex-A15. Beast is all I can say.

@sprucecaboose: Yeah, it's not up to par with the high-end smartphones/tablets

What's the res? O_o Anyway I still disagree with the ICS/Honeycomb "one size fits all" approach Google is taking with tablets. I think the "optimized for phones" and "optimized for Tablets" approach by Apple is much better.

Paying two times for the same app is ridiculous and the all size fits is the most sensible approach. Buy the app on your phone that supports 800x480 res, decide that you want that app on your tab? log in with the same account on your tablet and when you download the app it will select the appropriate resolution for the device. It will be great if it takes off.

hmmm, i'd say its right up their with smartphones, I check gamespot on my vita all the time when i don't feel like getting up, I also read mangas on it. Its not the most amazing web browser out their but 1 out of 10 i would give it a 8.

That's not that big of a difference as I thought you were going to say.

I meant as overral package and the cortex-A15, the screen is slightly higher. Also the A6 chip supposedly a quad core cortex-A15, but that will have to wait for their next tab it seems. Which should be going head to head with the Exynos5450... man tech is moving too fast :/

Yeah, I'll be interested to see how the real world performance is for all of them. You know how tricky numbers look on paper these days.

Between the 2 I would defiantly get an ipad 3 at this point in time if you want a dedicated handheld get a psp for cheap with large library of games all at low prices or get a ds or 3ds(bc with entire ds library and still get to play the latest 3ds games) for similar reasons. The Ipad 3 has alot more games out for it and as a multimedia device its offers alot more then the vita does.

Why is it hard to justify $500 for an Ipad? It can do almsot everything a laptop can do as far as entertainment purposes go. Between all of the game apps, books, internet browsing, movie watching and whatnot, plus the sheer portability for basically the same cost as a bare bones laptop, I see the Ipad as a major win. Now, I will agree if you are simply looking for a portable gaming machine, the Ipad probably isnt for you. The question is what are you going to play on the Vita that you most likely cant get on the PS3 or 360? Will you really sit on your couch and play the Vita over your console? meanwhile, I can almost guarantee that you would use your Ipad 3 faster than you would grab a bulkier laptop!!

I don't know, it's hard to explain. I've had an iPad 2 now for a year, and I find that I barely ever use it now. I think the problem is that it doesn't really have a place in my life.

As far as mobile media consumption goes, my Galaxy s2 is better. As far as games go, my 3ds and Vita are much, much better. As far as a portable writing device, my ultrabook is better. As far as drawing goes, a pen and paper are better. Do you see what I mean. Maybe if you're the kind of person who wants to do multiple of those things at a time and you're willing to settle for doing them at a reduced level, then the ipad is perfect for you?

The only way I will own an Apple product is if they are the only company around. I hate their stance on freedom on devices you own, and their treatment of the App Store. Too proprietary for me.

iPad 2, 3DS and Vita. iPod Touch instead if you're a gamer on teh move. Honestly that screen resolution on iPad HD is overkill, old apps will look like ass.

I wouldn't buy either within the next year. I already own an IPad 2 and I still have a PSP and a 3DS. Do you really need any other portable gaming device when you already have these things? I don't think you do. A PSVita will be a great gift next year for my birthday or around X-Mas, but I wouldn't waste my time on it today. The price will drop soon enough.

Guys I was seriously considering getting a Vita and then I saw what the iPad 3 had under the hood and I have to ask with all that muscle, can the iPad 3 seriously pull some bigtime devs in and get some legit games on it like an actual Madden, NBA 2K, a CoD or BF type FPS and a Skyrim-esque RPG? because if you think about it, the WiFi Vita is $249, but then you need atleast an 8 GB memory card which is like $40. Yes, the Ipad 3 is twice the price of the Vita, but it has so many more capabilities beyond just gaming. I have to think "bang for the buck", the Ipad 3 wins hands down! Maybe the Vita is a better pure gaming device, but maybe not!! Your thoughts?ShoTTyMcNaDeS

iOS gaming already has titles from all of the genres you've referenced, and several of the franchises. If you're not familiar with what's available, you should really take some time to check out some of the games companies are putting out. If the controls aren't a barrier for you, there are some splendid games available. If you are familiar with what's available, but not impressed/satisfied, then don't expect the iPad3... err "the new iPad" to change your mind. The resolution, GPU, and RAM bumps are going to enhance gaming on the device going forward, but you're still going to be playing in much the same fashion as before.

You mention "more capablities" as a selling point for you, and if so, then iPad could be a good choice for you. In my opinion, the best "bang for the buck" GAMINGdevice between the two is the Vita.... and the best "bang for the buck" handheld is the DSLite.

In all honsty, neither

A xbox 360 and 3DS is the best combo, they get all the games

Vita is already ancient technology comparing to iPad3, so between the two i would go for ipad 3 of course, that has better games too, bigger screen, better graphics, vastly better resolution, bigger battery life etc

There is no comparisson really

I have a Vita and I just preordered a 3rd gen iPad.

I'm looking forward to a lot of the potential games from the big name developers that have said they are making Vita games.

iPad games have to be nerfed horribly due to lack of controls in many genres. Even if they come out with controllers you can sync with it, there goes your portability. Vita has the controls down pat. I put PSP Star Wars Battlefront 2 on there, and it plays just like a PS3 shooter. I mapped the vision controls (X, Square, Triangle, Circle) to the right analog stick. Gran Turismo? Awesome on Vita. iPad racers typically dont give you full controls because they cant. There is no contest here. Vita for gaming all the way.

I would have to disagree with that. the vita is just on par with the ipad 3's specs. it has a 4-core cpu and a 4-core gpu(probably the same gpu that is on the ipad 3, knowing the gpus used by the other ipads). the better resolution and bigger screen of the ipad doesn't mean better graphics. Actually, the graphic quality of the ipad will suffer a lot because of the gpu having to render everything at the massive resolution of 2048x1536, while the same gpu can do a way better job on the 960x544 screen of the vita. also it has buttons most of the games for ipad are just like arcade and casual games, I say if you're a serious gamer and are looking for a device to play games on, a vita is the way to go. an ipad is more of a multimedia and web surfing device.

Ya I said this like 8 pages ago. However the Vita is NOT on par with the ipad; it exceeds it. The VIta uses a Cortex A9 QUAD core to the Cortez A5X dual core. GPU is likely the same but the clocks of the systems aren't known. Apple will likey throttle it lower. Even if not, you are correct that the ipad resolution takes a LOT of power to run natively . Like 3X the pixel count. So likely any game that was similar would have to be displayed at a very low resoution which would look horrible on the ipad screen since ANY game that doesn't run natively on an LCD/IPS etc screen looks pretty bad.

I'm going with the one that has BlazBlue, Uncharted, Rayman, and other series that gamers actually give a damn about. On mobile devices, gaming is an afterthought while apps for daily life (phones, planners, e-books, internet browsing, etc.) are the main attraction.

I'd buy the Vita. Longer lifespan (5-10 year cycle, justifying the cost of entry far more than the iPad justifies it's own), better hardware (even if only marginally so), and so what if the iPad 3 has a larger, higher res screen? The fact of the matter is, the PSVita has honest to goodness buttons, which outweighs any of the positives that the iPad has going in it's favor.

How about both?

I have a Vita and I just preordered a 3rd gen iPad.

I'm looking forward to a lot of the potential games from the big name developers that have said they are making Vita games.

There are plenty of games I will enjoy on vita not on 3ds or ipad. Bigger screen ya but that would be a bad thing for portable users. Better graphics we will see and lol at better games.
