iPhones are trash and people are really grasping at straws to show it's not the best around around....
Interesting read. I've had a Droid Eris for the last three years (forgot when to upgrade :P ) and now it's crapping out on me. One of the problems that bothered me the most though was being able to see what was on the screen when outside.
October 5th I'll be getting an iPhone 5. I'm a fan of the Apple brand and purchasing their newest product felt like the right choice. We'll see how I enjoy the iPhone and if I don't like it I'll switch back to an Android device.
Really glad to see that viewing the screen in high ambient light is pretty good though. That makes me very happy. :)
In my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.
S3 - Bigger screen, more pixels, can take an SD card, quad core instead of dual, 1.4Ghz instead of 1.0Ghz.
How can it be that the S3 is the premium product in so many ways, yet only costs about half?
Answer: The lack of an Apple logo, and the lack of an anodised aluminium finish.
People can buy the iPhone 5, they're welcome to it. I prefer power over fashion as I lack interest in such superficialities.
iPhones are trash? Ur giving them too much credit. lol. :DiPhones are trash and people are really grasping at straws to show it's not the best around around....

HTC one X and LGoptimus 4x HD, both phones better than the new iphone ! Can't understand peoples desire to buy overpriced apple product !?!?
did you know clock speed means nothing so does how many cores the processor has ? AMD bulldozer was beaten by a 4 cores i7 processor and the AMD has 8 cores..go figure that up,lets see where you put your phone in once screens get bigger and bigger..which is the most pointless thing on a phone...anything over 4'' is just annoying. In my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.

And after some superficial research, seems that the iPhone 5 may in fact yield better benchmark results.

Good on you tessellation. I'm interested to learn what you think, is the iPhone 5 worth the money?
Regarding the size issue in your edit, one of my colleagues has the S3 and appreciates the larger physical dimensions.
Considering it isn't released in NZ as yet should be the reason why those mom and pop stores have it for that price. In my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.

GS3 has more pixels, but the iPhone 5 has more sub pixels. Pentile screens have half as Many red and blue sub pixels as standard RGB displays. This is why pentile still looks a tiny bit more artifacts and why greens are over saturatedIn my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.

We can't get quad core phones in America without importing them, because the stupid service providers all want to put their crappy fake 4G antennas inside and that means they can't use quad core.:evil:In my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.

When I can finally afford a new phone, I am going to import an unlocked one with no contract. It's a much bigger initial investment, but the contract fees on new phones are outrageous and the phones themselves are not even powerful as the ones the rest of the world gets. Our phone companies keep bragging about how they have "the fastest 4G in America" (which is not saying much, since American 4G is nothing but a marketing ploy), but the phones themselves are all downgraded versions with dual core processors.
If the smartphone arms race in America was not being handicapped by phone providers' incessant need to ruin Android phones for the sake of their 4G services, I think the difference between the Tegra 3 powered android phones like the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X versus the iPhone 5 would be far greater than even Apple's marketing department could deny.
If I might put on my foil hat for a moment, I can't help but wonder if maybe Apple has something to do with the lack of quad-core Android phones in America? After all, none of Apple's pre- IP5 phones supported 4G, which means Apple got special treatment from carriers that HTC and Samsung did not. They are just now releasing a 4G phone in America, and conviniently it is entering a market that has reached an artificial cieling of having dual core phones. The iPhone 5 is weak compared to the phones in the rest of the world, but on paper it sounds half decent to the uneducated American masses, so I can't help but wonder if Apple might be in cahoots with the carriers somehow. They didn't mind using the 4G-less iPhone 4S as their flagship product when trying to woo subscribers, and yet whenever the much more powerful Android phones came along, they said "Nope nope nope. You have to use a whimpier processor, because the Tegra 3 doesn't work with our 4G service, even though we don't care that Apple's phones don't work with it!"

What an interesting point. Perhaps I'll adjust things a bit, based on evidence:
iPhone 4S NZ pricing history.
.
So it looks like the cheapest price was $1450 initially, but then settled on $1050 for a while. Even at the true launch price of the iPhone 5 turns out to be $1050, the S3 is still only 70% of the price.
Oh and look at that, the iPhone 4S is still more expensive that the Galaxy S3! What a joke!

in my opinion yes it is worth the money considering that i had 2 android phones and both gave several problems quality of the product and software (top on the line droids in that time) and when i switched to IOS i have 0 problems...probably for some people the size is good..but i want you to put for example the galaxy note inside a pair of jeans pocket ...like i said anything over 4'' is terrible idea for phones..[QUOTE="psymon100"]

What about economies of scale? If your product is in high demand it can be produced more cheaply, the price can fall. It is simple economics too...It's not that I support Android, or hate Apple, or anything of the sort. I like to look out for my fellow consumers to ensure that they get a good deal.
What additional value does the iPhone 4S provide (relative to the Samsung Galaxy S3) considering it comes with a 12% price premium?
S3 is 41% faster in a GPU test. I just think Apple are using their marketing prowess to push their boutique product.
innovation!! Support innovation ! Thats why ,keep buying "better" iphone rip-offs and cell phones will be the same in the next 20 years.... Why does the galaxy s Iii follow the same pricing trend? Could it be that tariffs in your country are just high? Anyway it is cheaper to buy phones on contract which is what the majority do in the USA. $200 for a 16gb iPhone .In my country the Galaxy S3 is 56% of the price of the iPhone 5.

£530. Yes, you're reading it correctly. Five hundred and thirty pounds...
You can get a decent Android phone much lower than that and is better than iPhone 5.
£700 for 64GB model... I can get myself a freakin' decent gaming rig for that! Or even a 2nd hand car!!!
Take a look at what smartphones looked like in 2007 and who was using them. Smartphones were not popular with consumers but the iPhone changed that.same thing happened with the iPad and iPod. Look at what Motorola and palm was making before the iPhone was released . The iPhone changed the game and created a demand for smartphones.Blackberry and IBM devices came out in the 90's. Iphone came out in 2007. You'd be an idiot to think that Apple created the smartphone.

[QUOTE="sailor232"]Take a look at what smartphones looked like in 2007 and who was using them. Smartphones were not popular with consumers but the iPhone changed that. Keep in mind, quite a lot of this was due to the availability of hardware capable of handling current UI, API support, and overall network capabilities to accommodate large amounts of data. Apple joined the market with a definite goal (the consumer) at a time when technology would allow it. Any earlier and they would have been bottle-necked, any later and the competition would have already had their devices on the market.Blackberry and IBM devices came out in the 90's. Iphone came out in 2007. You'd be an idiot to think that Apple created the smartphone.
