First things first, fanboys need not apply.

For those who are true gamers, i.e. just enjoys games regardless of console/pc/handheld, what do you think of the iPhone when it comes to gaming? Do you see yourself picking one up? Are you excited? Do you think it can and will creep up on the likes of the PSP and DS? Let me know your thoughts.

It seems to be more of a fad thing than an actual gaming device, just like all those tetris games you see people play on their mobile phones.

Its just so obvious this is to sell the new 3g iphone (people who already got one dont one to buy it again).

I dont think it has potencial to become a major console.

I thought it was a Phone. I have the Sprint version of the IPhone: The Instinct..It's pretty sweet. I wouldn't buy a phone for gaming.

Gaming is just a secondary feature on the Iphone...no one is gonna buy it just for that.

I doubt it'll ever compete with the DS or PSP, seeing as how they were made with gaming in mind as a primary function.

definitely not a gimmick.

it's a legit platform for games to be developed for and released on.

lol based on what? Sprint store is pretty easy to use. As for the phone everything is infront of your face...How can anything be easier? I'm looking for a real reason... Because i've seen several comparisons, and the instinct won in every department.

just overall ease of use and functionality.

The applications are all user friendly, and with 3rd party apps it's practically a mobile mac. It has full internet capabilities (aside from flash, but no phone has that). Its just apple, they are tough to beat

no... just no... I have the new iphone, my dad jsut got the instinct. After playing around with them, the iphone is much more pleasing to the eye, quicker and slicker. The instinct has a bad plastic feel to it. The iphone's internet is much easier to use, the instincts internet is clunky and freezes under low signals. I havent seen much apps or games for the instinct but I know the iphone has lots of support. Then you put in the excellent itunes to iphone functionality with video/music, add in 3rd party apps like aim. The instinct is a dumbed down version of the iphone

Very compelling argument you got there  sure proved the Instinct is not even close to the iPhone...

Fact is almost every comparison says instinct is better... and it was $100... That's tough to beat

I don't have an Iphone. :( Got a Touch instead. :P

I'm actually rather impressed. Some of the games are actually pretty fun, and some are even free (not to mention some of the better ones). The most expensive game I've seen is $10, so really you shouldn't expect console or PC quality games. There isn't a whole lot to offer, but from what they have there are some gems like Aurora Feint (Meteos with RPG elements and it's free) and TapTap (Guitar Hero basically).

read the posts above mine...they all agree with me

the truth is, you can hate all you want until you get one, then you will see.

Another HUGE thing for the iPhone is that it contains an iPod as well. It has either an 8GB or 16GB hard drive put put music/movies/etc. Sure the instinct might have upgradeable storage (does it?), but you have to pay extra

I'm not getting one I don't want one wtf lol... I know it isn't the iPhone, but it's a good competitor It's got everything the iphone has, and in a lot of areas it's faster. And yes there is removable storage. And what's paying extra for it if you want, when the instinct only costs $100?

I never bought it. I read the reviews before and people said whenever you stop playing and go to play again you start over from level 1. And since there are 100 levels you have to beat them all in one sitting or keep on playing the same levels over and over. :?

Also de Blob is on there. :P I almost bought it but it looked kind of... bad.

I wouldn't say its a gimmick. I have Super Monkey Ball on mine and damn is it addicting. I'm also very surprised at the graphics this little phone can push. I'd go as far to even say that iPhone games are not mobile games, but iPhone games. I'll give it the respect it deserves as a system.

it's not trying to compete either. it's simply offering 10 million + devices that a game developer may be able to tap into with a good product.

They offer several quality free apps on the apps store. The update is well worth the money for what you're getting.

you should be thankful theyre even giving these iPhone updates to an iPod product.

I used to have a Cingular phone. Then after AT&T bought them out, they withdrew from my area completely! I wasn't even allowed to keep my service.

What's my point here? Well, because the iPhone is an AT&T exclusive, many people (like me) cannot use it. Also, not everyone wants a cell phone in the first place. It's for these two reasons that I cannot see the iPhone going toe to toe with PSP or DS.
