Iphone $600
Cingular Exclusive- Huge Cost to get out of 1 year+ Contract
Cingular 2 year contract (locked)- 140 dollars a month.
Yep..fair comparison

Where do you get 140 bucks a month?
Sorry my bad
108 a month
* $60/mo Voice Plan - cheapest plan with unlimited nights and weekends
* $40/mo MEdia Max 3000 Bundle - includes 3000 texts and unlimited MediaNet which I assume will work as the browse function on the iPhone
* $8/mo Fees - lovely fees
This is assuming you will use the features of the IPhone. If you don't get these, you just got a $600 phone
Is this for real? I only need 1000 texts at most. I'm not gonna need MediaNet either since I'm just gonna use the wi-fi.
Also, I'm probably just gonna get the 39.99 plan since i'm mainly on my phone at night.
I'm fairly positive you have to get a media plan that involved data
Whatever...lets compare.

Did you seriously just pull that? Aside from that measure of talk time, ect. being extremely dubious those aren't what is most relevant. What is more relevant? How about the underlying technology that actually determines what functionality it has?
Aside from the Nokia N95 which has features the iPhone doesn't such as GPS the others are all available for several hundred dollars less than the iPhone. If you look at the real superphones out there (which others will be better equipped to tell you about as I'm more of a PC hardware guy) they are all much better than the iPhone.

The shuffle is the ultimate workout music device. No cases needed, just clip it onto whatever you're wearing. Besides, who wants a miniature screen anyway? Put music on there that you like- then listen to it.

Do you know how big a U3 is? It will fit into any pocket you are likely to find on clothing, bar none. It is very rugged and requires no case. As for the miniature screen, maybe those of us who aren't intimately familiar with every single song on our MP3 player and want to know which one we are going to without waiting 30 seconds each time?
Aside from that the U3 offers OGG support, a radio tuner, line-in recording, voice recording and other things the Shuffle doesn't even come close to matching.

I'm not talking Unix, though Symbion OS is probably better suited for mobile phones in any case. I'm talking the lack of 3G, the 2 megapixel compared to 5 megapixel on some other phones, the lack of removable memory, Apple's poor history of usability in touchscreen devices and other factors.

You can keep your static keyboard, grandpa. I'll take one that changes depending on my needs.
depends on whether you like games and HD movie watching...or trendy communications devices.
only the individual can answer that question. I already own a PS3, so I'll be picking up an iPhone next week.
If I had to choose one...I'd take the PS3. a phone is a phone. fancy interfaces or not, as long as the other caller can hear me and I can hear them...and as long as I can text message fairly easily, I'm all set.
Why is iphone better choice than a ps3? simple, ADULTS love cellphones, its like they love cars, its usefull and ADULTS can afford a cellphone for $500 cus they know they need it, In the other hand, spend $600 for a ps3 lol is a joke for them, lol they just tell you, mmm ok get a xbox360 just to play games man, lol etc......

except that my t-mobile Dash does all the things an iPhone does with EXPANDABLE ram. I mean it does ALL of that.
No matter what phone we're discussing...whether Treo, iPhone, Dash, MDA, or whatever smartphone...the bottom line is they all:
play movies
play music
text message
make phone calls
install additional apps to do other things.
there isn't a single, meaningful feature that will be on the iPhone that doesn't exist on a Treo or Windows Mobile 5.0 smarphone. the only difference is user-interface (the exception being the option to play back your messges however you want to.
but your "a game console is a game console" only works if all systems get the same games and you simply choose the hardware you prefer to play them on. this is not the case. there are game experiences you can get on one platform that will not (maybe ever) be available on another console. + you can watch High Definition movies, play music networked between multiple PCs, etc.
Make a playlist of what you want to listen to. Is it really that difficult?
And what if your running shorts don't have pockets? Can't clip the U3 to your belt without a case, could you?
musicalmac
So I should limit myself to one playlist and lack all the other features of that Cowon offers at better prices than Apple for the sake of a freaking clip? Heck, I can superglue a clip onto the thing if its such a huge issue (which it isn't).
Also, no..AAC is not superior. At best the quality is the same as Ogg which is not wrapped up in patent and DRM nonsense.
Listening tests have attempted to find the best quality lossy audio codecs at certain bitrates. Some conclusions made by recent listening tests:
* Low bitrate (less than 64 kb/s): the most recent public multiformat test at 48 kb/s shows that aoTuV Ogg Vorbis has a better quality than WMA and LC-AAC, the same quality of WMA Professional, and a lower quality than HE-AAC.
* Mid to low bitrates (less than 128 kb/s down to 64 kb/s): private tests (80 kb/s, 96 kb/s) shows that aoTuV Ogg Vorbis has a better quality than other lossy audio codecs (LC-AAC, HE-AAC, MP3, MPC, WMA).
* Mid bitrate (128kb/s): most recent public multiformat test at 128 kb/s shows a four-way tie between aoTuV Ogg Vorbis, LAME-encoded MP3, WMA Pro, and QuickTime AAC, with each codec essentially transparent (sounds identical to the original music file).
* High bitrates (more than 128 kb/s): most people do not hear significant differences. However, trained listeners can often hear significant differences between codecs at identical bitrates, and aoTuV Ogg Vorbis performs very well, i.e. better than other formats such as LC-AAC, MP3, and MPC (see this 180 kb/s test on ****cal music).
won't happen.[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="asdasd"]I cant wait for a 30 gig iphone. 8 gigs just isnt enough for measdasd
I think we will see it in a couple years. How many gigs was the first ipod when it came out?
no, you don't understand...Apple doesn't create products to compete with their other product lines. they never do. unless we're supposing iPods will go upwards of 150GB (which they most likely won't), 30GB iPhones keeps people from buying iPods.
they won't bring a product to maket that would compete directly with another product.

AAC is proprietery.
You can't argue that MacOS is better either because it's never been seen on a phone. We just say Symbian is awesome because it is a fact that it is the best OS out there. And MacOS are generally horrible as THE WORLD KNOWS.
5 Megapixel is one of the reasons why people buy the phone. Camera phones are so prevelent and popular that 2MP, the standard of 3 years ago, doesn't cut it anymore. If you lack the realization that people like to take pictures anytime they want and they have a phone that is able to take high quality pictures, then that phone is a winner.
iPhone is a gimmickery touch-screen because they needed it for the touch keyboard. But those who have the iPhone to review are already shaking their heads saying that the iPhone keyboard isn't working out for them. People like to have a response when they hit keys.
in a futile attempt to stick it to cell providers, I picked up the Netgear SPH101 Skype phone...$90 for the entire year, I believe its going to work in my case because im rarely not around some sort of wifi access unless Im driving (in which case I shouldnt be talking anyway) The internals of the phone were designed by apple...and it has alot of features a typical cell phone could only dream about. Im a big supporter of the Iphone, and I will buy one if they plan on supporting skype and other such services while readily attacking cellular providers that have been pushing inferior products at premium prices for years....
I hope the Iphone is a success.. at the starting price point, its a tough cell... but people will buy it. The price will drop within a year. I have an original 40gig Ipod that cost $499.... look at the price now.

Sounds like you know nothing about the iPhone except for the name. iPhone will not support VOIP services. It's also already tacked onto Cingular Mobile.

The iPhone is cool looking, and the multipoint touchscreen is slick, but those two things alone aren't worth an extra $450.
It sees the cow 'D-fence' is: "Teh ipone is tchno week"
I don't see any other phones out there that have all of those features. And if we were comparing the 360 then the iphone would be the most awesome thing ever right?

not only did they lie about the battery life (iphone talk time 5 hours, not 8 ), they don't even mention the standby time. the LG Prada (pictured below) has 300 hours of talk time. it is also smaller than the iphone in height, width, and weight.

the exact same prices as a PS3. My question is what would you choose. A video game console with dvd, blue ray and many other features. Or a bad ass phone that has the internet mp3 and portable video on it. I have a 360 and wanna purchase a ps3 when ff13 comes out. But iphone is pretty temping right now and the money i have saved could praticaly buy one when it is released. The down fall is that the iphone requires a 2 yr contract via ATT. And the steep price of course. Is anyone else gana make this purchase and do you think for a 360 owner to just buy an iphone or that i should get a ps3 also!
Thanks for your input.
