True, but combined that with the Wii being the casuals console this gen, Nintendo have a good chance.Â
What WON'T happen next is me buying a Wii, because I am not a child. I buy ONE console, ONE, because they're expensive, so I'll wait for a year till i see if the ps3 will pull out of its slump. If not, then I'll get an xbox, even though Microsoft is a pretty evil company. But I will never, ever get a Wii, because the Wii is for casual gamers and children.osirisomeomi

I have no doubt that the Wii will place first this gen in sales, but not because of quality titles. It sells to casuals. It's cheaper and offers motion control, something that brings in women and non-gamers. To anyone that considers themselves a true gamer, the Wii is a poor 1st choice or only console Choice.
I've seen the same thing happen too many times. Here's a little history lesson for you The PS2 was launched. Then came the GC and the Xbox. Nintendo fans claimed that the superior first party support and graphics of the GC would destroy the PS2. Microsoft fans claimed the online functionality and superior graphics of the Xbox would kill the PS2. and yet the PS2 continued to obliterate the competition sales wise. Eventually the GC and XBox died off and the PS2 continued on. Third parties like Konami, Capcom, Sega et al started focusing on the PS2, and now it is considered the best console of last gen by a huge margin The DS was launched. Then came the PSP. Sony fans claimed that the superior graphics and "multimedia features" of the PSP would destroy the DS. and yet the DS continued to obliterate the competition sales wise. Eventually the PSP started dying off and the DS continued on. Third parties like EA, Sega, Capcom, Ubisoft et al started focusing on the DS, and now it is widely considered the best handheld ever made and continues to outpace the PSP The Wii was launched. Then came the PS3, and the 360 had already been out for a year. Sony fans claimed that the superior power of the PS3 would destroy the Wii. Microsoft fans claimed the superior graphics and online of the 360 would kill the Wii. and yet the Wii continued to obliterate the competition sales wise. wii just won't work ....... hopefully the general public will get over it soon and realize it's just a big gimmick(though i have to admit, the most well-done, awesome gimmick i've seen in a while).Â
think about it this way. what if the DS had just been a touch screen? no conventional controls. there would have been like 2 good games for it then.Â

Not because of titles you don't see as quality titles. Some people see Wii Sports as one of the best games created this gen even if its not a "quality title". Anyway Metroid Prime 3, SSBB, SMG and FF CB are enough quality games for me, so thats why I bought the Wii. Let's not forget that when the Wii sales continue like this, the third party will jump on to the Wii and there will be more exclusive titles coming which means more quality titles just like the PS2.
I purchased a Wii, and quickly traded it back in after realizing there were next to no games that interested me.VandalvideoOnly in the time you had it (and imo, the worst time-period of a console's life). If Wii continues to dominate sales, there will be a lot of quality software for it in a few years. Which comes back to the thread title, "everyone will eventually buy a Wii".
I'm going to guess that you sold your Wii so that you could profit from it, afterall the launch games weren't that impressive. And then maybe consider getting the Wii again once the big titles come out.Â
I couldn't agre more right now, but the entire concept of the console is built around bespoke exclusives. What about when Kojima reveals his titles? Or Matsuno reveals his RPG? or Square starts ramping up support? or Namco reveals the 40 something games they're making for the machine? Will it still be the secondary console then? The Wii makes for an excellent back up console. As the primary one, it fails compared to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.Â

true but the 360 is the leadTnasty11The 360 is my favourite console right now, but in all likelihood its lead will only last a matter of months
But I will never, ever get a Wii, because the Wii is for casual gamers and children.osirisomeomiironic, consdering that you yourself are a child. In truth adults enjoy fairly inoffensive simple fare like Wii sports and games that they can play with their families as ooposed to 50 cent bulletproof and the rest of the crap i assume you play. The whole concept of the Wii is gaming for everyone, whether that's adults, kids or anyone in between. but eventually you will buy a Wii, it's the definition of a populist console and support is already shifting to the machine. eventually your weak protests will fade and you will begrudgingly go where the support goes, namely the Wii

Other than playing a few RTS's and WoW on the PC, Wii is my primary console... and I just got an HDTV and (although I agree some of the games on 360/PS3 look AMAZING) I still have no big urge to go out and buy either of the other consoles.Â

well I am not a child and a massive percentage of the wii owners on here ain't children. My little sisters who are 6 and 7 have a 360!! My uncle who is 40 has a wii as his primary console so that blows you litle "theory" out of the water!

Lemme tell you what will happen next. I bought a PS3 and a PSP NOW. And next, I'm either going to forget consoles and handhelds exist and upgrade my PC to become Crysis-capable. If not, I will buy an Xbox 360 and play far superior and interesting games that I cannot play anywhere else...namely, Mass Effect. Mass Effect eliminates the possibility of me ever touching a Wii, therefore, it will stop there.Â
I can say with complete confidence that I will never own a Wii.purplemidgetsI suppose you never bought a PS2 or a DS either? Â
Who says I devote my allegance to anyone? I go where the games I want are. Wii has none right now. And what kills it for the future is the motion controls.
I very much dislike them and don't think they're anywhere near to being ready for a permanent fixture into our home consoles.
Â
And I also feel the Wii promotes stagnation of hardware. Because contrary to what Nintendo wants you to believe, complex and new hardware can be just as innovative as a new form of control input.
Â
I bought my PS2 for MGS2 and got MGS3 as well. I bought the PS3 for MGS4.
I bought my PSP for MGS: PO, and it's subsequent sequels.
I would buy a DS if I see more games that I want... IE a new 2D Metroid game. Â

Because I was out binge drinking all night and some guy was like, "DUDE THEY HAVE FOUR WIIs FOR THE LAUNCH EVENT AT SEARS". Then we all drove over and bought all the Wiis and watched the children cry.......You seem to base your purchasing decisions almost entirely on the availibity of MGS games.NorthlandMan
Duh.
I on the other hand bought my PS2 for MGS3, SOTC, Ico, Okami, FF12, DQ 8 and numerous other quality titles. I bought my DS for DQ9, NSMB DS, Zelda, Metroid Prime Hunters, Advance Wars, Jagged Alliance, Picross and numerous other quality titles.NorthlandMan
Good for you, I don't care why you bought your consoles. I buy mine for the games I want, and the only game series I honest to god care about is MGS. All other game franchises are just icing on the cake, but if they weren't there I would still be perfectly happy with MGS.
The Wii arguably stagnates hardware, but at the same time who is to say that graphical fidelity is the be all and end all of videogames.NorthlandMan
It isn't, but I don't like the idea of not advancing them.
The wiimote is the most h-tech controller ever devised, and it has the potential to change the way we play games. To many people that's alot more exciting than sharper resolutions. You could make the argument that potentiall doesn't equal jack squat. But the Wii is still in its infancy, as is motion control along with it.NorthlandMan
Which is my point. Motion sensing is no where near being ready for what Nintendo wants. The Power Glove was a much more ambitious controller, but the technology wasn't there to back it up. With the Wii, you have a toned down Power Glove that does less because that's where technology meats the ideas. Untill we've reached the Minority Report level of motion sensing, I won't accept them as a permanent alternative.
Â
And be honest, how many 360/PS3 games have you played that provide a noticeable generational improvement over last gen titles rather than just incremental improvements to the presentation. I for one have seen few titles on the 360 that have wowed me as much as Okami on the PS2NorthlandMan
Â
I'm a realist, I don't expect to be AMAZED in the first legs of a generation. If it happens then great, but I don't knock a console just because it hasn't done it in it's first year or two.
And I can say the same thing about the Wii. I have played nothing on the Wii that is better than any of the great games of the past. They're just different, not better.

Friends don't let friends buy Wii's drunk. Thats all I'll say.[QUOTE="purplemidgets"] NorthlandManI'll leave aside your MGS argument for now. I personally find focusing on one series strange, whether it is mario, halo or mgs but each to their own i guess what's more interesting is your above comment. You seem to be wise to the fact that both hi-fi graphics and motion senitive controllers are in their infancy right now. I've played stuff on the Wii and 360 that i've thought is really cool, but these titles are few and far between. for the moment i'm content to sit back and wait to see how it plays out but i think you're unwise to completely dismiss the Wii. Leaving aside the ridiculous sales of the machine and the constant reports of third parties shifting focus to the machine, at least Nintendo have decided to do something different this gen. Last gen the GC, the Xbox and the PS2 were all the same thing (except the PS2 was actually good). At least no-one is ever going to say that about the PS3/360 when comparing it to the Wii

Â
As I said before, different isn't always better. The Wii is a different, but not better. It's just different.Â
If Nintendo had released the Wii with the motion sensing and designed a new traditional controller, but put large emphasis on the motion controls without making them near mandatory I might not be dismissing them. They've alienated me with the controls and the mentality the Wii is pushing. I don't want a family friendly console. I don't want a social party box. They've shown me nothing that proves they're verging away from that mentality.Â
3rd parties are lining up for a reason, they're ready to make games for the motion controls. So all of that support is completly null invoid as far as I'm concerned. If given the choice right now of having an entire console generation of using the Wiimote and Nunchuck or a PS3/360 controller I'm going to go for the latter every time. Â
