Mass Effect Andromeda made sure it won't be.
So far, excellent. Let's hope it can keep it up.
its been pretty underwhelming for me so far. ME:A I liked, but it certainly isn't the GOTY contender I was hoping for.
RE7 didn't do much for me.
not buying a Nintendo console for one game
DoW 3 is a big step back from Relic's last few games which I poured hundreds of hours into
Wildlands and Day of Infamy were good fun but again nothing too special.
only real highlights have been Nioh, which turns into a bit of a grind in the final third, Horizon: ZD which is very derivative of other open world games, and Battlegrounds which is probably my favorite game so far this year (even though its in Early Access).
Been a great year for me. Next big game for me is Shadow of war, I will also pick up The Surge and hopefully Elite dangerous finally releases on ps4. They say it's in Q2 this year.
There are far too many great games this year that I want to play.
I've only bought and played Breath of the Wild this year. It's exceptional though. This game goes well beyond any reasonable expectations a person could ever have. It transcends the open world formula. Breath of the Wild is, without a doubt, something for other game designers to strive towards. It's hard to believe any number of people were able to produce this massive, living and detailed world within the confines of 5 years. It feels like something that's been worked on meticulously for a couple decades.
I could rave about the exceptional qualities of Breath of the Wild in much more detail, but I digress.
I still very much want to play Nioh and Horizon. They both look amazing. I'll be waiting for price drops on them both.
I hotly anticipate the following
-Injustice 2
-ARMS
-Splatoon 2
-Super Mario Odyssey
Agreed. Not sure if it's THE best but it's definitely up there. And it's Golden Week! I'm trying my hardest not to splurge lol
gamings been garbage post 2004 aside from couple games all the major developers shifted focus on crappy consoles and gamings never been as cutting edge in technology since pretty much.
Nothing beats 2004 HALF LIFE 2,GTA SAN ANDREAS, HALO 2, FARCRY 3,DOOM 3,VAMPIRES THE MASQUERADE BLOODLINES,RESIDENT EVIL 4, UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004,BURNOUT 3,METAL GEAR SOLID 3,PRINCE OF PERSIA WARRIOR WITHIN ETC.Nothing?
2017 might have already beat that list, let alone with upcoming games.
Horizon Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0, Nier Automata, Nioh, Resident Evil 7, Persona 5, Dawn of War 3, Breath of the Wild, etc etc.
Outside of Nintendo, honestly it's been kinda boring so far for me.
Horizon and Persona are the only things to release so far that I have any interest in, but I'm in no rush to grab either of them yet.
Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Nier Automata, Nioh, Dawn of War 3, etc etc.
PS4 has switch beat decisively.
The best? Too early to tell. It's starting out strong though.
We're almost middle of 2017 and so far its been pretty shit lol well for games i like.

I mean, I disagree with this thoroughly (opinions huzzah!), but it's especially funny when you look at the excellent games that came out in 2005. How did 2004 become your cut off year? lol

On topic, yeah 2017 has been a damn good year and there's still much to look forward to. Though admittedly the highlight of my year has been replaying a gen 7 port. That's not a knock against this years games at all, I've just been having that much damn fun with Bayo PC.

I dont like the fact AAA development has shifted to consoles post 2004.
Plus in 2004 u had painkiller,doom3,half life 2,far cry 4 great shooters not built for dumbass consoles in mind originally.
If Stormblood, GT Sport and Battlefront 2 live up to expectations, this will definitely be one of the greatest gaming years of my life.
2017 is looking great in terms of gaming so far. Though it still has a long way ahead to beat/be on a par with the unforgettable 1998 & 2004.

Resident Evil 4 shouldn't even be on that 2004 list, since that's a 2005 release.
But on the other hand, that 2004 list left out Ninja Gaiden, one of the best hack & slash games of all time.

I never said it didn't. I just don't have any personal interest in any of the games you mentioned.

Wow. Pretty good.
Loved Doom 3 and Half Life 2.
Even older people from back then loved RE4.
Almost every guy my age back then was gaga about San Andreas.

No one really has that much interest in those games until they play them, especially the yakuza series. I've literally been so distracted from the main quest (which is great) because I've been running a real estate company and racing pocket circuit cars and delivering a pizza to a chinese illegal immigrant and shit like that in yakuza 0, the games is 10/10
Nioh is considred by many better than dark souls and it adds a lot like comboing and skill trees. Also it has a genuine story.
Nier Automata is pretty much a top tier hack and slash bullet hell game that switches between 3d, 2d, over the top, etc etc. Has great bosses, regular guys to fight, has a cool unique story, etc etc.
Dawn of War 3 I haven't played but dawn of war 2 was great.
