For me it's been a great year. Japan is pretty much killing it this year lol.

  • FF7 Rebirth
  • Astro Bot
  • Silent Hill 2 Remake
  • Metaphor Refantazio
  • Like a Dragon
  • Stellar Blade
  • Paper Mario
  • Persona 3 Reload
  • Unicorn Overlord
  • Dragon's Dogma 2
  • Marvel vs Capcom
  • Helldivers 2

How about you, SW? Are you enjoying 2024 in gaming? For all this talk about lack of games, doesn't seem to be the case. Especially if you have a PS5.

All I know is I've been busy with games and happy with what I've played this year.

Yeah, I think so. Microsoft has been very faithful, putting out some good games on Game Pass.

Atlus is the true MVP this year with Unicorn Overlord and Metaphor Refantazio.

Sega owns Atlus, and they also released Persona 3 Reload and Like a Dragon. So I say it's the year of the Sega lol.

@SolidGame_basic: You know.. I've never been a huge Sega fan, but I think you're right, they are kind of killing it, especially after announcing they are bringing a lot of long gone franchises back from the dead with NEW titles in the franchises and not just the same old rehashed bs in remasters/remakes everyone else has been doing.

Sega is going hard right now, and Atlus has always been one of those sleeper studios that never get enough attention but have always innovated and dropped insanely good under the radar games.

This has been a great year in gaming. People saying otherwise are peddling a false narrative. (cough cough if you only game on xbox)

It's been a great year.

There's also been some really terrible things that have happened this year.

Sony in particular has been not only lacking, but taking games off the market, and dicking over consumers by making them sign up for PSN when they don't need to, and removing games from international markets (as they did with Helldivers 2, which tanked the community. That tends to happen when you remove a game from 100+ countries.

We might be seeing the beginning of the end of Ubisoft; as much as everyone loves to hate Ubisoft, they've been a major provider of great games for many years and we would be worse without them.

I've also noticed some sad trends among games. Namely the whole " if you're not a hardcore Elden Ring Soulsborne gamer, then you're not a gamer" type. Also I've seen a lot of apathy and some sad statistics of "x % of platers have spent 5 or less hours with this game" and it's a huge %.

But as far as games go, it's been a great year. Indies of course dominated across the board while AAA continues to flounder.

Yeah people that say this are ignorant to all the great games around them.

Stalker 2 releasing, Battlefield may finally be worthwhile again, RDR coming to pc and rumors about a HL3? Yeah this year is fantastic, let alone the games that we actually got to play

Also couldn't be happier with SuSquad and Concord flopping, they'll learn the wrong lesson from it, for sure. But at least I got my fill from laughing at these utter farces in gaming.

I’m also pretty hyped for:

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

- Call of Duty Black Ops 6

- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

- Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Helldivers 2 was a lot of fun for the first couple of weeks. Haven't played it since then tho. Definitely didn't play any of those other games. What... Unicorn overlord? lol

This year has been pretty crap for me.

I have enjoyed Age of Mythology Retold, Manor Lords, and the Dead Rising Remake though.

2024 has been a strong year for Asian devs, but a weak year for Western devs.

@Stevo_the_gamer:I have never played Dead Rising, but want to check it out. Unicorn Overlord is a strategy RPG. I think of it as Fire Emblem meets Total War lol. I’m not that far into but it got great reviews and @WitIsWisdom has been singing praises about it lol.

It's definitely more nostalgic for me since I played the original on Xbox 360.

Personally my goty so fare are helldivers 2 and FF7 rebirth and none of them would have made my top 5 last year!

Nah, it was pretty lame. A few gems here and there, but mostly crap, remasters and monetizations.

Doesn't really matter for me, though. I have many games to play not released this year.

@SolidGame_basic: I really have, and yes think of it like Fire Emblem in a way. I didnt know what to expect going into it, but as you get further into the game the strategy gets deeper and deeper and the synergies you make with your teams is very important (I personally really liked 3 rear line cavalry units since they compound on each other. I played through the game on hard and 100 percented the game. It just felt so original and like a breath of fresh air. Very few games have captured my imagination over the past several years as that game did. I would strongly advocate for a UO2 and the good news is that they sent out surveys asking people if they would be interested in a sequel. I for one am very interested and took the poll and submitted several ideas.

It's one of the only games in recent memory that I can say quite freely would easily be in my top 100 games of all time list, and that doesn't happen too often.

One of these days I would love to try to come up with a toplist of my favorite games of all time, but it would be a massive undertaking for me since I've played more games than any human should play... lol. Oh well though, it's a hobby that keeps me out of trouble and keeps my imagination alive. It's rare, but every once in a while a game like that resparks why I love playing games so much in the first place.

@WitIsWisdom: lol, you participate in the Sega surveys too? I didn't get that one on Unicorn Overlord. That's great that you enjoyed it so much. I'll eventually get around to it if the backlog permits 😄

2024, as far as video games are concerned, will be remembered as the year we got College Football back. The Circana sales charts confirm this. Without that game, console and software sales would have been through the floor.

I’ve been having fun with NES World Championships too. I really enjoy time attack/ score attack games.

@SolidGame_basic: Yeah, they sent me one after the UO demo ended. I definitely wanted to say yes to a UO 2 already.. lol.

I get the backlog man.. mine is 10 miles long and growns every day. It takes a truly spectacular single player experience for me to play it through all the way to the end most of the time.

@Stevo_the_gamer: It's got a crap name, but that's what made me look into it in the first place, and I'm really glad I did. Think Ogre Battle or Fire Emblem. One of the best single player games I've played in a few years. If you like strategy games you'll like it.

I wish they released Persona 3 reload as a full game. I'm too burnt out from beating the stand alone story to go back and do the DLC packs.

Fixed that for you, outside of America NO ONE gives a crap about American Football and even less so for the College (ie lower grade) version 🤣🤣🤣

I don't think there's been a great year this decade yet. I've spent more time (and money) on retro than current/last gen.

Don't get me wrong as there's been a great game here & there, but overall, pretty piss poor decade.
