Pretty much this, unfortunately people will pay for this and the trend of releasing half assed re-releases will continue.

It worked with Windwaker HD. I can't blame publishers for pumping out GTA5, Tomb Raider, TLOU, etc. Just have to vote with the wallet or wait for the inevitable price drops.

Wind Waker HD was at the very least a game that was ten years old at the time of its release- it is presently possible to buy The Last of Us, as well as all of its DLC, for a currently active and supported system, for less than half the price of this 'remaster,' new.

Wind Waker HD was still modernizing a game that was two generations old- Sony does not get off scott free on The Last of Us because of that remaster's existence, as the situations are not comparable.

Way too much considering it looks practically the same. Not double dipping on this one until its around the £20 mark.

Between the games that are coming out and the backlog I still have yet to conquer, 50 bucks on a game I've beaten twice along with its dlc just ain't happening... especially when um, I can play the game anytime I want because I already own it.

But....

A year from now when it's 9.99 I'll grab it.

Cows keep saying "its for those that haven't played it". What a load of crap. How many PS4 owners DIDN'T own a PS3? How many PS3 owners that own a PS4 DIDN'T play TLOU? I bet the percentage is very small. Small enough that remaking a game that came out 1 year ago wouldn't make cost of re-releasing it.

This is a money grab pure and simple. Sony knows cows love getting milked so why not release a game with slightly better graphics that came out only 1 year ago. Cows are always falling for Sony's lines. I swear if Sony took a giant shit, put it in a paper bag and slapped a PS logo on it they'd called it the greatest shit ever.

I'd wager quite a few PS4 owners didnt own a PS3, especially in the US (NaughtyDog's largest market) considering the 360 was the de facto platform last gen, and now PS4 is the de facto platform. A very large amount of people who were 360 only last gen, and switched over.

I only half agree with your second paragraph. I'd also wager that the game was intended for PS4 the entire time, and they only put it on PS3 for more sales.

I think the price is fair enough. The original on PS3 is still very new so a remaster should be priced accordingly.

Another good example, I listed several others.

I don't get how excuses like 'It's only a year old' or 'It's an amazing game' make this any less of a rip-off. Metro Last Light is only a year old and it's an amazing game too, and that remake can be bought for 9.99 if you already own the game or 19.99 if you don't.

This isn't the first ND rip-off either. The SP DLC was way too expensive for what little content it offered.

Not if you got the $19 season pass which included the single player DLC, plus both map packs for the game. That's what the season pass is for.

As the game is a year old, it is clearly not meant for those that have already bought it.

And so for those that have not bought it, it's a fair price, especially as it's a little cheaper than buying the last gen version and all dlc.

I always thought what would be a cool idea with these remasters is to use your original PS3 disc as the activation to download the PS4 version at a reduce price (£10-15?) then and keep the disc inserted to play. No reason why they can't do that.

I sort of do think it is too much. I have a feeling that this game has been up and running at this 1080p resolution for quite some time. I think the ps3 version may have just been a downgraded one from the upcoming release.

Thats an excuse ... a 12 years old game in HD , something that PC gamers playing since 2007, with some additions or cuts here and there which even after a year costs 42$ in amazon as we speak .... How is not the same even worse scenario , just because it is 12 years old ... TLOU is 1 years old and offers 2 versions , PS3 and PS4 , choose what you want ... Mainly for the guys that havent play the game yet and an optional , better version of one of the best game last gen. ...so lets not justify Wind Waker HD because its old... You see what happens when theres no Backwards Compatibility.....

If mean they could've patched in the better graphics if were backwards compatibility... Obviously it wouldn't be the same thing. But if better graphics were what people really wanted then why doesn't they got PC's ?

What pisses me off isn't even the HD remake factor. It's the fact that the game is only 1 year old. An HD collection, like Halo or Metro, tha's cool. An Uncharted HD to prepare for UC4, that would be sweet.

Charging nearly full price for a texture pack for 1 single, fresh new game is bs. But then again, we've seen worse stuff. Like WD having 9 different CE editions.

It's not a texture pack. They have rewritten the game to be on PS4. You make it sound like they just pressed the compile button the the PS4 SDK on their existing code and added higher res textures. It should be about the same price as the PS3 version though with discounts for people who already own the PS3 version.

Console gamers are used ot being f$^& by the console manufacturers, what with paying for multiplayer, paying way more for games and being sold games they've already played and beat for almost full price.

They'll just bend over and "Yes sir, may I have another!" or maybe: "Oooh, Jesus Christ!"

The average length of the game is indeed 15 hours.

This is normal websites where gamers vote based on the time it took for them to complete the game.

Still not worth $50

$40 would be the ideal price point for a re-release of such a recent game.

Completely disagree. The time and lack of an retail windwaker right next to the remaster does hold weight. TLOU PS4 will be a few feet away from TLOU. Because its a year later. And spare me with the "mainly for the guys that haven't played". Like Sony execs were in an office looking at sales figures of TLOU, and Madden and COD and somehow came up with we will do this for the ones that didn't play it. Its being done because the gaming consumer population has shown they will buy the same thing over and over with just the slightest improvement. If only half the original purchasers buy the remaster it sells millions with half the work going into it. Its logical business.

Well I half agree with you. If the 360 was the defacto console and has over 80 million sold, and MANY switched over to PS4, I think they'd be at a lot higher than 8 million sold at this point. This remaster is being done because as I have said, Sony execs know if only half the buyers of the PS3 version buy it, and gamers of all factions have proven they will buy the same thing with slight improvements, it will sell millions. Easy money. The new sales are just icing on the cake.

@kingtito Agreed. If Kaz took dump and put it in a game case, cows would buy as Kaz' dinner remastered HD

No I always thought the Price of Wind waker was too high as well. Look at GoW collection or other collections with multiple games but sequels. They weren't $50 -$6o, and it had been a while. I wasn't up for the MC collection either, but at least there is MP that cant be played anymore, and a Halo 5 beta, but even that's too much.

Enough of the BS lems

http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/games/the-last-of-us/98630

The game cost $39 new and 35 used on PS3

http://www.gamestop.com/ps3/dlc/the-last-of-us-left-behind/113320

The DLC cost $14

At best you can get what the PS4 is offering in content on the PS3 (35+14 =) for $49 dollars.

That's right to all the idiots here saying this PS4 remaster with all the DLC and map packs included 1080p/60fps upgraded shadows and textures should be $20 or $30, you can't get the last gen version of this game with DLC on PS3 for under $49.

So dumb trolls just buy the last gen version for $49 on PS3 and STFU. Sony hasn't make any attempt to stop you fakeboys from buying the PS3 version. The $50 upgraded PS4 version is clearly the better choice for anyone who wants to buy the game.

Like lems said the game is only a year old, so why should an upgraded version of a critically acclaimed best game of last generation be $10 or $20 when it's still highly valued and on the original system and still cost $49 to get an equal amount of content?

I guess all the hypocritical lems and hermits in this thread will be calling for GTAV 2014 to be $10 as well when it comes out? No, I expect all the clowns calling for sony's head here to fully flip flop on their arguments, because to date, all these fanboys here have been singing nothing but praises when they found out an upgraded version of just released last year GTAV was coming to xbone and PC.

I'm not sure you've been paying attention, but it turns out that a large number of Playstation 4 owners jumped ship from owning the Xbox 360 last generation, and many of them never owned a Playstation 3.

These are the guys that were interested in owning the more powerful console.

The guys that went from the Xbox 360 to the $500 Xbox One did it for one reason: brand loyalty.

While I agree it's a bit soon for a remastered version it's hardly just a "texture pack". It's better lighting, AA, AF, 1080p and 60fps along with those textures and models.

Is this what we're in for next gen ?

Games like Watch Dogs and Far Cry 4 focusing on pre-order DLC and even showing pre-order DLC before showing off the game.

Watch_dogs having a bazillion collectors edition, each with their content cut out of the game.

And HD remasters of one game for full price vs HD remasters of several games for a lower prices (like we got last gen)

You see what happens when theres no Backwards Compatibility.....

If mean they could've patched in the better graphics if were backwards compatibility... Obviously it wouldn't be the same thing. But if better graphics were what people really wanted then why doesn't they got PC's ?

can you play The Last of Us on pc with better graphics? Nope.

ITT: people who shunned WindWakerReborn for being $50 but TLOU gets a free price because so little time has passed that it hasn't had the chance to drop to $20. Oh and because PS4 has no games.

I don't own the game yet and plan on waiting until I get a PS4 and then buying it, but I won't buy it until it drops to $19.99 on Amazon. Was waiting on the PS3 version to drop when this popped up, so now I will just wait for the PS4 version to drop instead and just get it then.

P.S. Yes I know I will be waiting awhile before that happens. The 70+ unplayed games in my backlog tell me I am more than okay with that wait.

Seems like a good deal. It's not really aimed at ps3 users. It is a better deal than a 399.00 Xbox one

$50 for a year old 8 hour game? lol

the game is longer than 8 hours, unless youre trying to speedrun it. it took me 15 on my first playthrough

You must be really slow then.

The average length of the game is indeed 15 hours.

This is normal websites where gamers vote based on the time it took for them to complete the game.

Still not worth $50

nice evasive from someone who just showed he didn't play it.

is that why Rockstar is also releasing GTAV remaster on xbone and PC? NO GAMES?

So you are saying you think Rockstar will release their game for $20 being a recent remaster and if not you will be in rage like you are here? Next dumb argument.

It's for people that haven't played it. If you have yet to play it or don't own it, then that's a fair price.

Not for a year old game it isn't.

Once the twelve month mark rolls around, it should be half price or less.

@charizard1605: No you can't. The game is 30 and there is no more season pass. So it's 30 + 15 + all the map packs and other online stuff. It's over 50 bucks to get everything on PS3.

Thats in fact is against WW ... and i see nothing modern in WW HD than the original to justify 50$ if you ask me.

+1 As I stated before, I find all these HD remastered ports expensive and will never buy any of them at full price IF I already own the game which includes Tomb Raider, GTA5, Diablo III, The Last of Us, and Wind Waker HD. Still, I think there is a value in a newer game rather than the old 2002 game (especially when looking at the current price of the new game and all the included DLC). At least last gen when they gave us 3 Jak and Daxter games in one pack, 3 Ratchet & Clank's in one pack, or even 2 God of Wars in one pack those released for $40 and some of those were just as old as WW. Of course, I refused to pay top dollar for those packs just the same.

+1 You researched some # and $. Good on you. For those bargain shoppers looking for deals, the exact same mentality will work for the TLOU and other remasters.

I want to state what you have yourself, multiple times before, and even very recently- if you know how to shop smart, you don't have to buy the game for the price it retails at. It's not exactly difficult to pick up the game for less than $30.
