[QUOTE="Brownesque"][QUOTE="xbox360isgr8t"] what makes a console a failure? just cause its not leading in sales who cares. it all depends on the consumers and how they feel about their purchase not a number and sales? you cant play sales. you dont make any profit off sales because you own a certain system unless you somehow work for that company. seriously wtf are complaining about.needagoodname

A console is a failure if it forces people to pay for content that should be free.

I stopped reading here.

That was ALMOST valid.

Think about this though: who would want a Halo: Reach beta that WOULDN'T want ODST?

"Oh, I want the Halo game with no known details, I just don't want the other one coming out."

It's a bonus to the people that want ODST. They're not packaging it with Viva Pinata. They're packaging a game with a beta to the sequel. How is this forcing anything?

The content apparently is free (a user shared that you can sign up for the beta online without buying ODST), so technically this doesn't apply in this context. Your argument would be valid if someone had to want the final product in order to want to play the beta and if someone had to want ODST just because they like the Halo franchise. And, frankly, I don't know that Reach is the sequel to Halo 3. Can you show me that this is the case? After all, you did say it was a "Halo game with no known details." If someone said that Metal Gear Rising was the sequel to MGS4, I would cock an eyebrow.

And the person that equated charging for a beta to theft, I have two points:

1. You think hosting the servers for the beta maps is free?

2. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

needagoodname
No one equated charging for a beta to theft. 1. no 2. Okay? I've brought up the example of game developers paying game product testers to test their product. That service obviously isn't free, but they get a benefit out of it (game testing). A beta test is not a product, nor is it necessarily a service the developer is carrying out for fans. It is a test. If they didn't feel the need to test their products' network stability and multiplayer code bugginess, they probably wouldn't consider giving game players/fans a free two-week trial of the online game.

[QUOTE="Brownesque"][QUOTE="xbox360isgr8t"][QUOTE="Brownesque"] A beta is not a legitimate reason to buy a game.... Betas are for free....they are legitimate pre-order bonuses and legitimate select downloads to applicants, but this idea that a piece of software is worth more because it includes a beta is....wow. Only on Xbox.

what about infamous?

That included an access key to the Uncharted 2 beta on PRE-ORDER. The thing about pre-orders is that they involve a 5 dollar deposit and are completely refundable, meaning you can pay them five dollars, get the beta key, then cancel the pre-order. They're actually requiring you to buy the game in order to get the beta, which isn't a dishonest practice, it's actually cool, but please don't pretend it's the coolest "feature" ever. It shouldn't even be on that list.

Um what? no? lol every place i've seen that allows you to get bonuses on pre order all most all ways require that the preorder bonus is given away AFTER the final purchase....Im pretty damn sure it was the same with infamous...

[QUOTE="Brownesque"][QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="Brownesque"] Theft is different from complaining. Your analogy is garbage.

Your original comment:
"I'm a consumer and I want free stuff NAOOOOO" should be a legitimate justification for everything that I want.Brownesque
You think that kind of thinking puts you in a solid ethical position? A business has stakeholders to consider - little old ladies who have their retirements funds invested in their success, their workers who have families to feed, and their visionaries, who have entrusted the company to realize their ideas. You, as a consumer, have no justification for demanding free entertainment, or to accuse an ethical business of wrongdoing.

"You, as a consumer, have no justification for demanding free entertainment, or to accuse an ethical business of wrongdoing. " You've still got this notion that a complaint is the same thing as theft. I'm a 40 year old man with arthritis, a puppy with cancer, a wife with AIDs, a cow with a limp, an empty bank account, and four kids to feed. And this idea that a beta is = to entertainment is ridiculous. Do I DERIVE entertainment value from a beta? Yes, but a beta is a means to an end, which is the testing of multiplayer software and networking. It is a utility that is necessary for the developer, console manufacturer, publisher, shareholder, and end user. Product testers may enjoy getting a sneak peek at a game like God of War 2, but they should get paid for their time and the developers, I guarantee, appreciate the hell out of them. I'm not saying it's necessarily a service, but it's not at all as though I'd be exploiting a business by testing their networking/software before release. Should demos cost money because I derive entertainment value from them? If I find enough value in a demo to want to purchase one, does that suddenly make it a legitimate justification for spending money on a demo, even if its potentially thousands of dollars? To return to my earlier example, if I find the need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on scientology auditing, is that a legitimate purchase?

looks to me that you need to stop watching tv, and playing video games cause we highly doubt you have any such family or problems or you wouldn't be spending your time playing video games, or argueing on a video game forum. And yes if someone finds the need to purchase scientology auditing then its a legitimate purchase to them.....you live in america a capitolistic democratic country if you don't like the rules either change them some how or leave...

$60 for a game that looks better than it's predecessor

Has more content than lots of $60 games.

Has more content than it's predecessor including multiple map packs that all cost money.

Has a beta key for the next Halo game. **** all you want about it not being free, and nobody will actually care.

And to top it all off it will score AAA.

$60 for a game that's going to be better, and have more content than 95% of games out there? Sign me up.

Mr_Nordquist

Wouldn't matter if the game was made out of solid gold, had a cure for cancer, and gave the user god like powers (all for 60 bucks) so long as it has halo in its name it will get hated on
