yes i know this, but i don't know how :( The guy at BB said it could play all the latest games at max. I don't recall the specs.

A BB salesman will tell you anything to make a sell.

well so far every one says i should build my own. And i'm sure i can i just know it's going to take some effort as well as some risk. Oh well, "nothing ventured nothing gained" maybe the last bit of advice i take from a console game before i try and build my own. And i've made two threads on an Alienware PC and everyone pretty much agrees that its too costly and does not have respectable tech. Thus, i'll be making a new topic in the hardware forums as everyone pretty much convinced me that building is the way to go and Alienware is a no go. I was hoping it wasn't going to come to this, but if i succeed then i'm sure i'll be greatful for listening to everyone. Trinitarian

If you don't feel comfortable yet about assembling a $1k worth of parts into a PC, don't let the people convince you otherwise. Only YOU can say if you're up to it or not. Go to cyberpowerpc.com and spec out one. Then get one of those old $50 ones and practice on it. If you break it, oh well. No real heartaches. If you do fine, it's always good to have a spare PC just in case.

if you build your own you will become 10x more knowledgable in pc gamming...

it's not hard if you know the basics....but if you are completely cluesless then maybe pay someone to build it and whenever you upgrade it...do it yourself..

I don't know about their desktops, but their laptops are pretty reasonably priced for what you get.

More than likely, you will be able to save money building a more powerful PC yourself, and it isn't difficult to do so. I mean, with some of the window lickers on here who have built their own PCs, I would think anyone could do it.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

You pay big bucks just for the brand name. You can buy a desktop with better specs from another company and it will be cheaper. Even a prebuilt or custom pc from tigerdirect or ibuypower will be cheaper.

If you buy from Alienware, you'll gain a special mouse, keyboard, and case setup with Alienware's emblem and colored lights. If you don't care about logos and lights, it's just an overpriced computer.

Even if you dont know how to build one, there are better alternatives..Local PC hobby shops will build you one for free or the very maxinum of 50 dollars.

If you're unsure about building, just pay a professional to do it for you. It'll still save you several of hundreds of dollars for a way better PC

Building your own really is the way to go. Better components for the money, compared to ANY prebuilt. And Alienwares are overpriced, even in the realm of prebuilts.

Either study up on building one until you're comfortable (it's really not hard, especially these days. goes together like a lego set, probably tool-less, if you get a sweet case), or buy all the parts from Newegg or something, and have someone else put it together for you. Your local computer repair shop will probably assemble it all for you, for a reasonable price. The shop in the town I grew up in would put together a system for you for $100, and that would include testing all the parts, installing windows (assuming you provide a copy of windows), getting all your drivers, and a 60 day warranty on their workmanship. And yeah, that's $100, but it's still considerably less than a typical prebuilt brand mark up (especially an alienware).

Alternatively, you can also get a custom computer from a place like CyberpowerPC, or iBuypower. They'll have more hardware options than other brand names, come assembled, not have the piles of bullsh!t, worthless bloatware you often get with a brand name computer, and they'll still be cheaper than comparable systems from almost any other brand name.

Building a PC is easier than assembling a basic Lego set. Just make sure you order from Newegg or Tigerdirect. Also, get an ample PSU(power supply). Newegg makes it easy, since you can just go to PC Hardware, DIY PC Combos and they'll have complete kits ready to rock without worrying about compatibility.

---

http://www.newegg.com/DIY-PC-Combos/PromotionStore/ID-33

Here's a tidy build with reputable manufacturers. Nice $80 combo discount along with a $40 mail-in.

Not a huge fan of the DDR3-1333, but it's a $420 build. Slap a GTX 670 in there for $329 after rebate and get a copy of Windows 7/8:
GTX 670

Windows 8

---

This will handle Crysis 2 DX11 High-res textures Ultra quality at 1080p and get you ~60fps for under $1k with KB/M and DVD drive.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_670_review,22.html

Here's an Alienware Aurora R4 from BestBuy for $2,200. It comes with a nice i7 CPU, but the GPU is a 6870. Going back to the benchmarks for Crysis 2, you'll see the 670 gets 59fps while the 6870 gets 31fps. Double the fps for half the price. 'Nuff said.

Obviously, I could spec a much better setup with faster RAM, SSD, superior case, and a variety of gaming oriented peripherals, but this is nice and tidy without much thought.

If your alienware pc for $1000 doesn't beat this barebones entry-level PC, then it's not worth it.

It is very easy to do and there are tons of youtube videos to show you how. I built one earlier this year and was worried I would screw it up but it really is not that hard. Go to newegg to get your parts. If you get a Alienware PC a lot of your price is just paying for the name.

If you really dont want to "take the risk" you can just pay ANY technician to pull it together...they'll probably charge you 20 bucks as much.

Ya even a single 670 gets around a constant 30-35 with ubersampling on

implaying that the 670 is faster than the7970ghz edition:?

If you live in Canada (maybe they have this service for US too), then you can choose all the parts you want from NCIX.ca (consult gaming forums to get guidance on what to choose), and then once you choose the parts and add them to your check out box, you also have the option of getting them to assemble it for you for $50. Easy, and much cheaper and powerful than a alienware rig. In my boook, the only benefit of alienware is the case, but no sense in paying a $500+ premium for them.

1. Buy an old pentium 4 class machine second hand. Get a philips screwdriver. Take it to bits. Put it back together and make it go. Format the disk and install Windows. Get all the drivers.

2. Do this as many time as necessary until you feel competent.

3. Get someone to help you spec the machine (PC hardware forums is good), then build it yourself.

You'll gain an invaluable skill which will serve you very well for the rest of your life. Trust me man.

Why waste money on a old PC just to practice on? for my first time building I just studied several how to builds for a couple of months.

lol I just read "How to Build Your Own PC for Dummies" and in like 1 month I was playing Crysis on max settings lolol

This is not system wars worthy! I come here to see fanboys tear each other apart over exclusives and video game systems!! But on topic, just buy the parts yourself, have someone help you if you don't know how.... I'm sure who ever will help you will also teach you :) I work at a lumberyard, and my boss helped me build the computer I'm using now just a few weeks ago, and I'm video editing and gaming smoother than ever before, for no more than $670 (CANADIAN). It's cheaper to build for sure like everyone else said... screw Alienware.

In all honesty, Ive never had an ounce of desire to build a computer... not saying I never will or I think its lame or anything, but I have way too many other things on my plate before Id even consider building one. I saw that AlienWare pc console thing in the BB flyer... for a thousand bucks it better play everything for a good long while... otherwise whats the point?
