Its less than 2 months away, but i rarely see it mentioned here. It looks to eliminate the main problems with the first game (level and enemy variety) and improve on the already excellent story and horror elements, as well as combat mechanics. Thoughts?

I was, but not so much now. I liked F.E.A.R, but I am not sure I want more of it, especially since I have major problems finishing dark games like F.E.A.R and Condemned.

Project Origin is being developed by the people that made F.E.A.R. the expainsions for that game were done by a different company. I can't wait for Project Origin it looks absolutely fantastic. Game of the Year 2009, I called it.

The horror elements look stepped-up, and I'm going to be all over this game 2 months from now. It's one of my most anticipated titles of '09 (although '09 doesn't have a huge selection really yet). I'll be getting PC version, probably along with a $9.99 copy of the original (which I played on consoles).

I'm surprised more people aren't lookng forward to it, but that's understandable. It's prequel was released several years ago on PC, and despite good reviews it really wasn't a mainstream title. The console version had many issues and bugs, so I'm sure that put off some people too.

Monolith has been losing their way over the years, imo. F.E.A.R. doesn't do much for me, so no, I won't be getting this one. I may try it when it hits the bargain bins in a few years, though.

Dead-Memories

A graphics mod? Are you joking? The number of improvements they're making to the sequel is far beyond that of a "graphics mod", that is about as bad as writing Metal Gear Solid 4 off as a "movie".

Graphics were really great for their time, back in '05 it had some of the most impressive lighting out there. The game's environments did get repetitive though.

When FEAR came out 3 years ago the graphics were some of the best out there and you needed a high end comp to run it on max.

I dont understand why people liked FEAR so much. It was such a mediocre game and the story was complete and utter trash. If that's what you guys call horror, then Nightmare Before Christmas must have had you guys wetting your pants :?

Yeah, I really liked the concepts and ideas. The pacing was fine as well and how the story was revealed to you was decent. The biggest problem was some of the scares really didn't fit in at all. It was trying to be a psychological horror game, and it succeeded in creating a very unnerving atmosphere (the ambient soundtrack really helped) but it wasn't really ever ridiculously "scary."

The AI was great, but too bad there were like 2 different types of enemies :x It got monotonous so quick, and the levels were a complete snooze fest. That game had some of the most uninspired level design in the history of video games. Heck, Pong had better level design! As for the graphics, they were ok, nothing spectacular, but what really bugged me about the graphics was that they had an "identity crisis" :P Actually, the problem was that they had no identity what so ever. I hate to use this term, but im going to use it anyways, the graphics were "GENERIC". Yup I said the word! Gears had this hardcore grittiness and detail that makes it standout. Resistance 2 has this "faux-reality" look it it. Its "cartoonish realism" that gives the game its own identity. Crysis has the super-realism and that by itself, is enough of an identity considering no other game comes close. FEAR...its just "meh". Its hard for me to explain, but its like when skilled artist draws a terrible composition. You can see the skill and potential, but you are also put off by the lack of vision and identity.

I think you're a bit mixed up. I think what you're trying to point out is the repetitive utilitarian urban setting, which you mentioned earlier. There seems to be no identity to it because that's all you're given: an office complex with room after room after room that all looked the same. There's nothing different enough in the world for you to compare and contrast to, which is what many games do to form an 'identity'. If anything though, FEAR does have something that makes it a little unique. FEAR has a very distinct use of lighting and shadows. I believe it's used to trick your eyes so you think something spooky just happened when you saw your shadow turn with you. On a side note, Crysis's identity isn't super realism. FEAR came out with 'super realism' at the time as well, and look what's happened to it. Crysis's 'identity' has got to do with its jungle island setting. It's not Crysis without it.

No, not really. The first game was so good because it had good action and was creepy and pretty scary. Since then we've had Bioshock, Fallout 3, Condemned series, and Dead Space (probably more deprending what you like) all of which have the same spookiness of FEAR.

Extraction Point really wasn't that bad. I don't know why everyone hates on it.

But back on topic, FEAR 2 is probably the only game yet announced that I'm certain to buy next year.

No not really. Unless the combat is as good as the first; but it is better paced and more varied as far as level design goes.

This thread better be bookmarked...I personally think that FEAR is single most hated AAA game out there, Bioshock is close second, but hatred, and animosity towards FEAR is unmatched. I believe it should belong to Resident Evil 4, but that's just me. Anyways, it will be fun if the game will get AAA + here and almost everywhere, which I bet will most likely be true anyways...It will be fun to watch the reaction of haters afterwards.

not so much for me. infact, im pretty much tired of the shooter genre.
