Is anybody surprised about Gabe Newell's appearance?

I was shocked when I saw Gabe Newell, the man who said many hateful things about Playstation 3 and dissed them is now working with them, making exclusive content for the PS3 version, and is working with the PS3 and saying that it's a great system. It seems like I'm the only one who's like that which I'm sure isn't true, after I saw him I was pretty sure System Wars would explode all about how Gabe is now working with Sony. Either way, Portal 2 will be awesome. I wonder how bad he felt when he was up there in Sony's conference after what he said lol.

Yes, I was kind of disappointed considering this was Valve's hyped surprise. I was expecting at least some Episode 3 news. A part from that, the Portal 2 gameplay looks extremely fun and innovative and the trailer was well made. Gabe was clearly out of his comfort zone, but he was more entertaining than the other guests in the Sony keynote.

I'm also hoping it intergrates with the Steam friends list, that would be a major development for me.

well i assume you get the same services as you would get if you bought the game via Steam

whether you get everything or not will probably be detailed much later

On a Sony stage, stating that the PS3 version of Portal 2 would be the better version? You better believe I was shocked. In fact, I was wondering which member of his family that Sony was holding hostage in order to make him come out there and say what he did. Of course, I am sure $ was really the main incentive, lol. Nice to see him actually supporting the PS3, regardless.

The big deal is we get two free full priced games when you buy the ps3s version. I loved playing dead space E on wii at my friends and doing it in HD will be amazing

First the heavy Apple support on Steam and now making games for PS3. Valve is certainly expanding its audience.

Of course Valve is a company, and they want money. Stating that is beyond obvious.

However, they make fun games and I would like to think opening up to more audiences will not only help Valve get bigger but put their games in more peoples hands.

Not one gaming website or media personnel had anything valve on ps3 related news before E3 yet 90% of the people here post-E3 are reacting like they expected it.

What I really hope for is the full-fledged support for mods on PS3.

I don't really see how Steam integration into the PS3 version is going to work. What exactly is it going to do? PS3 and PC players playing together in multiplayer? Cross-friends list? Steam achievements?Zero5000X

Most likely faster updates and free DLC as Valve doesn't have to go through PSN to give it to the players.

I was, actually. Sony is making money now and has a large install base so it makes sense. I also think it was kind of a apology for all the nasty things he has said about the PS3 over the years.djsifer01

I was surely surprised to see him on stage. But in the end what he announced didn't really add much to the conference overall. The only that mattered though is that portal 2 would work with steamworks on the ps3, meaning all I have to pay for is one copy of the game, most likely pc because its cheaper, and it'll work on both platforms.
