Is anybody worried how well the internet will perform on PS4? I'm pretty sure I want one for the value factor, but owning both systems last gen showed me that the 360 did much better handling everything online. I'd just hate to get my PS4 and experienced bogged down servers and extremely slow downloads. (Moses beard grows)

Possibly. With an 80Mbps download rate, I'd expect PS3 games to at least download at 5MBps, but it just never really happened... With games set to get larger and larger, it is a concern.

Yes, I'm very worried. Anytime I turn on the PS3 and there's a required update I get frustrated because they never seem to work, will start off really quick, get to like 23% or something then start erroring out. Over and over. Sometimes something as simple as a Netflix update would take days of trying before it finally goes through. And it isn't an issue with my internet speeds, I've got computers, tablets, smartphones & xboxes in my house and the PS3 is the only device that ever gives me problems.

psn wasnt really built from the get go with the ps3, so thats why it wasnt 'as good' (whatever that means, as I have a 360 and its not that much better) As a vita owner, I can tell you that Sony has definitely "fixed" the speed problems.

That's exactly how it is for me too. I kind of want to see after launch if people have the same issues. People that have only owned Sony I think tolerate it, but there is a huge difference in internet performance between the 360 and the PS3. There have been do many times that I have had to walk away from my PS3 to download something and then install it. Navigating PSN, albeit it's better, still is sluggish in comparison. Now that there's more people jumping on Sony, this might be a problem.

Very true. I had hope, but its seems the only thing they've announced for the *NEW* PSN is a subscription fee

Yep, I'm waiting a while too. I have every intention on getting a PS4, but not at launch. I've been burned by Sony too many times in the past to think this will go off without a hitch.

Not really. Games download fast for me on the PS3 it's just the install time that make it seem to take ages. On the Vita is all very fast as that like the PS4 was made in a digital age.

download speeds one of the reasons i got rid of my ps3... something takes matter of minutes on 360 ended up taking hours on ps3 Plus other 20 minutes install.

Samesies, I've given up going online with my PS3, it's just more of a headache then it's worth, while 360 "just works". I'm pretty hopeful they'll sort their shit out for PS4 tho.

I'd hope so. lol. I love all the free stuff Sony gives me, but like you said: It just works better on 360. I want Sony to get their shit together because, value wise, it would make so much more sense. I'll be really irritated if it turns out being the same or worse with more traffic and higher GB DLs.

I'm not because the PS3 only had 256MB of RAM and RAM is crucial for downloading and communicating with download servers through I/O network transmissions - not to mention the PS3 was using a decent chunk of that RAM just to run it's OS/XMB.

The PS4 has 8GB of RAM and a couple of those GBs are dedicated to the system's OS operations, which would include network I/O transmissions and operations - I'm not concerned. It should be lightyears better this coming GEN.

Very.

It was very frustrating downloading a game on PSN to have it take 4 hours, then another hour to install. What would have been completed in an hour on my Xbox takes 5 times longer on the PS3, zero change when I went wired with my PS3 either.

The slow downloads and installs, coupled with a slow UI are the 2 only things bothering me, and holding me back from loving the PS4

Did you guys forget that PSN will let you stream the games and even download them as you are playing them? Obviously this tells you that SONY is working on it to NOT be slow.

If it were a RAM issue rather than something with Sony's servers wouldn't other services like Hulu, Netflix, etc suffer as well? Something streaming in full HD on Netflix can push over 2 GB per hour.

I'll believe it when I see it.  As of now it is just more PR bullshit.

Not worried at all. They didn't have a clear idea of what they wanted to do with PS3. They have more experience now, it'll run better. Also, now that they'll be getting more revenue and becoming more profitable, they'll definitely invest to make it a better service.

My PS3 has always been physically connected to my router, I don't play online in Wi-Fi and updates/installs always sucked bad. Horribly slow compared to the Xbox 360.

i'm hoping the extra money will fix all that shyt.

you just can't run an online infrastructure for nothing.

you need to hire people to oversee it and keep it up and running and  add server farms and the like.

i'm hoping that sony will spend the money to fix their infrastructure and police it to punish cheaters and glytchers and not just throw old games at you and hope you don't complain about it or pretend there is no difference like this gen.

Should be better but definitely not on par with XBL.  Lets just say sonys strong points arent in this area.  So its safe to say its ok to be concerned.    XBL far superior and will continue to be.  Thats what they do.   Never had the issues that this psn has had.   Gta5 digital download the latest of woes.

yes, but how far will you have to download to get to that point? 50%? 75%? How many games will actually support it?

50 gigs for killzone.  So lets say 50 percent and you have to dl 26 gigs lol.  That would take 27 hours on my ps3.  Lol.  This is the digital console age.  I dont think I will buy one physical.   Download speeds matter more than ever.   No problem foe XBL,  PSN is def a source for concern

New gen. Everyone starts at 0.

You're gonna be pissed as f*ck Nov 22nd when you realize that the Xbone's controller is worse than the DS3. It took me by surprise.

You can't use the previous gen to guage how companies will perform next gen. Shensolidus said over half the features on the Xbone are half-assed and aren't working properly. Enjoy your sub-par Xbox LIVE experience.

By your analogy Xbox could have more exclusives this generation. Face facts Xbox Live will be better. PSN will be just fixing their download speeds when Xbox One has dedicated servers for its games.

Sony learned a great deal from the PS3 network, and that experience is helping them shape the PS4 online.

As long as they lift the cap on download speeds it'll be fine. 1) PS3's sluggish wireless is gone. 2) You won't even see most patches since they're done when the console is on standby (I haven't seen a patch since i got PS+). 3) Download/install as you play. 4) Pick which part downloads first. Hopefully they increase the number of titles available for pre-loading before launch for digital games as that'd help too. Can't you play another game as you download now since it's using dedicated hardware for the download? I wouldn't care how long something takes as long as i can get at my other games anyway.

How will the internet perform on the PS4? Depends on your ISP.

If you're asking how PSN will perform then I think it'll be a big step up from what we currently experience on the PS3 (not that its bad currently) due to the fact that there will be a mandatory subscription service for multiplayer. A good chunk of the funds obtained from the PS+ subscription will more than likely be used to improve PSN further.

Not worried I dont use wifi on the PS3 and my download spees have always been fine. And I do plan on downloading 90% of my PS4 games just because I dont want to mess with disk anymore. I have PS+ right now and I download games all the time, and the downloads have always been great for me.

It wouldn't matter to me, because the fastest speed I get is a little over 1Mb/s. I use a wireless USB adapter on my PC to receive my phone's LG 4TE signal, which is only so fast.

I guess reading more than the title is too much for people to ask these days. TC was clearly referring to PSN, not the internet as a whole.

XboxFails

Should be better but definitely not on par with XBL.  Lets just say sonys strong points arent in this area.  So its safe to say its ok to be concerned.    XBL far superior and will continue to be.  Thats what they do.   Never had the issues that this psn has had.   Gta5 digital download the latest of woes.

Yeah, just look how the PS3 failed after PS1 and PS2 dominance

PSN (or Live) doesn't affect your internet speed. Your ISP does.

No shit sherlock...

"Is anybody worried how well the internet will perform on PS4? I'm pretty sure I want one for the value factor, but owning both systems last gen showed me that the 360 did much better handling everything online. I'd just hate to get my PS4 and experienced bogged down servers and extremely slow downloads. (Moses beard grows)"

He's talking about the download speed of the system in which the PSN has nothing to do with.  Your download speed can only be determined on how much you're getting from your ISP.
