I don't get games that don't allow you to do this. I'm looking at you, Far Cry 4. Some of us aren't really invested in the story and just want to get to the meat and potatoes, so to speak. Surely this feature should be added to all future games, right SW?
A fundamental right? Come on, dude. get over your entitlement. Just because you hate it doesn't mean you have a right to never be subjected to it. If someone wants to make a game with unskippable cutscenes, then they can fucking make a game with unskippable cutscenes. People who hate it are free to not buy the shit. I mean, seriously, no one's making you buy the shit.
Having said that, making games with unskippable cutscenes is BULLSHIT, so I totally agree that that practice needs to fucking die. And yeah, I get it..."blah blah blah...story...blah...vision...blah blah...artists don't make cutscenes for no reason." Here's the thing: you don't have to make gamers have to see the cutscene EVERY TIME. Like, there's gotta be a way to put a checkpoint IMMEDIATELY AFTER the cutscene so that gamers can access that checkppoint (and skip the cutscene) after viewing the cutscene once.
And even more to the point: if gamers want to skip your cutscene that badly, then doesn't that sort of indicate that your cutscene sort of SUCKS? It's like when David Lynch released Mulholland Dr on DVD and deliberately left out chapter select options because his work was so profound that he didn't want people skipping ahead to the lesbian nude scenes. **** you, David Lynch. Get real. Regardless of how awesome those lesbian nude scenes might have been, no one's buying that DVD just to see Naomi Watts and Laura Harring caress each other's boobs. If anyone's buying your movie, it's because they like it as a total package. And if by some chance anyone IS buying your movie and just skipping ahead to the lesbian nude scenes, then that just indicates that they think that the rest of the movie SUCKS. Stop making people have to do the part that sucks. If your game cutscenes are so unengaging that gamers want to skip the cutscenes on their first playthrough, then that probably means that your cutscenes suck and you need to get better at making good cutscenes.
But this all just goes to something that I've been complaining about for a while: pointless bullshit repetition. Another example: shitty save systems that don't let you manually save whenever you want. And yes, generally speaking, those are BOTH just bullshit ways of forcing repetition. If I already saw a cutscene, stop making me have to watch it again. If I already cleared a particular area, stop making me have to clear it again.
So yeah, it actually boggles my fucking mind how gamers loathe unskippable cutscenes yet apparently have zero problem (or actually think it's GOOD) when games have shitty-ass save systems that force gamers to replay shit that they already played. Because in my mind, it's EXACTLY the same thing. YES, that kind of crap is total fucking bullshit.
Having said that, NO it's not a fundamental right. It might be bullshit, but it's not like you have a RIGHT to have every developer avoid doing it just because it sucks ass.
