Why do they sell digital copies of games for 60 dollars? I understand retail because there's alot of overhead, cut for retailers, transporters, package makers, etc, etc. Why is a PC game 60 dollars anyway?

because that is the trend that DD is following. it doesn't make them greedy, just a pro profit corporation adhering to the marketing trends set by themselves
as much as it was hated, people still ate up MW 2 for PC.
sc 2 will be no different. besides, it's definitely worth every penny of that 60 dollars, games rarely are.
Same price as retail is how it always is, unless its a sale.
Reason being that its tied to your account so no worrying about losing the serial code or disc, because you can download it again months or years later.
Also its more convineient for alot of people, just download right away.
I buy about 60% Digital and 40% retail myself and I dont have a problem with a Digital Distro version of a game beign same price as the boxed version.
Each has there ups and downs.
And no Blizzard is not greedy at all, they just made an amazing game with Starcraft2 that could easily be three differnt games in this on release. Its campaign is huge and awesome and the online portion could be a separate onlien game and the editor could be sold on its own as well. But no instead Blizzard sells them all as one package.
So what if its 60 instead of 50, its Blizzard...
I would honestly pay 60-100 for a Blizzard, Bioware or Valve game.
Why? Because I get way more moneys worth in there games EVERY TIME. There games I end up playing and using more then 3-4 other new games combined.
There are only a few companie si would be a game for 60$ from and Blizzard is one of them, because they made great games and also support ther games TONS after its released (also aweome editors they give us).
Don't let Bobby read this.....So what if its 60 instead of 50, its Blizzard...

If Blizzard sold SCII cheaper online then the retail stores would feel like they were being undercut. If that happened they would be less likely to buy so many copies or even stock the title because they know people would just buy it cheaper online. Although DD is big on PCs, retail still matters and Blizzard knows this, thus the need to keep the retailers happy.
Blizz is Activison
and umm Activision isn't uhh greedy in ummm anyway
and uhhhhh they treat there uh developers umm much better than uh anyone eles in the uhh industry
and kotic is an um um angel

It wouldn't surprise me if this was just a courtesy to retailers. Otherwise, why bother even selling your game retail if you plan on undercutting your own retail version by offering a cheaper DD version?
I guess the bandwidth for downloading thousands of games simultaneously is free of charge right? Why do they sell digital copies of games for 60 dollars? Because thats a price its valued at? Blizzard feels the work they put into the game is worth $60, and many consumers feel thats a fair price. It's not exactly that difficult to grasp.Skittles_McGeeBesides,Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 ware $60 as well back in the day,so I don´t see what´s the problem.

Makes sense.Besides,Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 ware $60 as well back in the day,so I don´t see what´s the problem. I remember WC3 being that, but forgot about Diablo 2. Then again, I forgot a lot of things about Diablo 2. Probably intentional. I think I mentally blocked my memories of it, so I don't remember my actual play time for that game and scare myself. ...Oh god, I played it for HOW long?[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Because thats a price its valued at? Blizzard greedy? Why make a question that has an answe right in front of you. Of course they are, they are selling a PC game for 60 dollars when most PC games that are of higher quality than Starcraft 2 are cheaper. They are selling the same game 3 times with different single player for full price. These people make over 100 millions every month from WoW and have their own convention. Why must they overprice a game when they are already richer than most companies? Blizzard were great at one point but the tactics it uses disgust me.
They don't want to make retailers angry and they've stated in the past that they want to support retailers. Also it is wise for them. People have used to pay $60 for their games, so why should they ask anything less? After all, SC2 cost a lot to make.
There aren't very many PC games that are higher quality than StarCraft II, and the campaign in WoL is more than 20 hours long. There is no rip-off here.Blizzard greedy? [QUOTE="Ontain"]because they usually have a deal with the retail stores that they won't undercut them for some amount of time.DiviniuzThis was what I was thinkingDitto. And even if there's no deal they propably don't want to undermine the retail version, sort of a cartel thing. If DD ever becomes dominant though, I hope the prices will go down and retail will be the one adapting, I doubt that though.

Yes, there are plenty, quit being so biased and accept that it is not worth the 60 dollars. As a fan of Blizzard and an RTS gamer myself, I see this.

Both worth and quality are subjective. One man's trash is another man's gold.
I honeslty don't undetstand the purpose of threads like this...
Blizzard is a company and it's NOT an NPO. Thus, its purpose is to make money. It doesn't care about your feelings. Is it "greedy"? Of course it's greedy...any well run company on earth is "greedy" up to the extent that it does not begin to detrimentally effect its PR and sales volume. Take any marketing class, the best companies extract maximum return from the populace...whatever form that may be.

Why in the world has this became an issue now? Blizzard sold Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 at $60 and that was a decade ago,so what´s the problem with SC2 having the same price as those? It´s not like blizzard started charging that sum now, they´ve done it for years.
And if you ask me,SC2 is definatedly worth it´s price tag.

Have you played the game, at all? Because I'm gathering that you have not, and if thats the case, how the hell do you know how good it is? :|Steam sell games at full price as well, it's not like there's any value in the actual disk/box/manual.mystervj
You are over looking the fact that some people collect things like video games, comic books, action figures et cetera. There is value the "actual disk/box/manual".

Which is a sentimental value, technically speaking. Which is a sentimental value, technically speaking. I think they meant physical value, which is true.I think maybe we're saying the same thing but differently? I'm not sure. I just know that there is a monetary value to having physical copies of games which extends beyond sentimental value...I can resell my old copies of games if I choose to and recoup my money. For example, I've sold copies of the pc games Alice and System Shock 2 for a surprising amount of money simply because there are plenty of people who prefer to have a hard, physical copy of games.
I don't understand. Why would anyone want a digital copy for the same price as a physical copy? You can do so much with a physical copy than a digital copy. Why limit yourself?nchanThe game is always available to you on any computer You dont have to deal with CDKeys at all Faster Install Times Its just...completely automatic. I say "I want this game" and then I have it, wherever and whenever.
