How big is the list of best games ever? :P

Right now it's high on my favorites list, but now we wait and see if it can remain there. There is little shame in thinking highly of Bloodborne.

No...it was a good game, but I doubt I would put it in my top 50 of all time great games. Still I'm glad you rate it so high TC. Everybody has different tastes.

Pistons: 3 championships

Rockets: 2 because Jordan wanted to play baseball instead

Tigers: 4 championships

Asstros: 0

Red Wings: 11 championships

Houston: 0

Lions and Texans, whatever, they both suck.

I can easily see the care for it being there for people, it's the Souls blueprint with an unprecedented amount of polish and a superior combat system.

It doesn't make my list though, not in the same way the first Dark Souls did. I loved Dark Souls 2, highly enjoyed Bloodborne, enjoy Demon's Souls, but Dark Souls is transcendental in terms of game design, in a way I consider it an all time great.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Dark Souls 1 sits at the top of my list as well.

I think the souls games are amazing. I have only finished Bloodborne, multiple times. I got into the series late around when prepare to die edition of ds1. So when ds3 releases I'm going to make sure I finish it.

Its excellent, the best exclusive arguably this gen so far but IMO Dark Souls 1 was much better. At the end of the day, i loved them all. Dark Souls 2 was ok though

Great game whorthy of it's AAA status, that said, no that title belongs to Demon's Souls. in my top 10 games of all time Bloodborne doesn't come close to making my list. Maybe top 50 games but that is still a maybe.

Demon's Souls>>>>>Dark Souls>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bloodborne

It's not that bloodborne is bad it's just that compared to the Demon's Souls and it's successor Bloodborne looses the impact of being mindblowingly amazing since those games already blew everyone away who played them.

If you had not played a souls game before I could see how you could come away making that argument for Bloodborne. That said, if we limit the argument to THIS gen it becomes an easy contender for top 10 best game. All time? That's a much harder argument to make because Demon's Souls is still the best game in the Souls series.

Dark Souls 1 is still the Pinnacle of the series but BB is right next to it for me due to faster combat and fantastic setting and artsyle. The Souls series and BB have some of the best artstyle in the history of videogames. From Software are masters in this particular aspect

Bloodborne was great, but not sure if it would be in my favorites of all time. I'll decide after I do my second playthrough along with The Old Hunters.

Great game but definitely not one of the best games of all time to me, wasn't even my game of the year. But if your opinion it's one of the best games you ever played then no one can say you're wrong, good that you enjoyed the game that much.

I would that accolade to Demons Souls. It was the blueprint for all Souls games and Bloodborne. So that would get my vote. When I 1st played Bloodborne it didn't really grab me like the other Souls games. I had to leave it and come back to it. But then I dove in full force and got my one and only Platinum trophy. I loved the fast paced combat. It felt hectic. I hope Dark Souls 3 captures that feel. That reminds me I still need to get the Old Hunters.

Hear me out, after playing through Bloodborne and the DLC, I really don't see why Bloodborne isn't in the discussion of being one of the best games of all time. Here are my arguments:

Story: The story of Bloodborne is, in my opinion, brilliant. You can run through the entire game without understanding the story and still think it's a great game, but if you really pay attention to what's going on around you, read the descriptions of items, and connect the dots then you're greatly rewarded as a player. It's unique in a way that the story isn't really spoon-fed to you but it's all there. You feel like an outsider lost in this world and you're discovering your way through it. I mean seriously, every boss has a deep background and so does every character. They're all part of this extremely convincing world and it's great to read up on it.

Soundtrack: The soundtrack for Bloodborne is fantastic. There's nothing quite like fighting a boss frantically while listening to the choir go nuts. I would post examples, but the titles of soundtrack videos can have boss spoilers in them. If you don't care about that stuff, then I really recommend listening to it.

Gameplay: The gameplay is extremely deep and diverse. Every weapon has a moveset and you can really familiarize yourself with all sorts of tricks you can pull off with each weapon. The bosses are tough but once you learn their moves and practice, the boss becomes easy. There are a lot of weapon combinations you can use, completely different character builds you can make which change the way you play the game, and more. Every weapon feels great and every level is very well designed. At some points of the game, From Soft actively tries to mess with the players which is cruel but still fun to experience.

Replay Value: Because there are so many different build options and the boss fights are so fun to do, bloodborne has great replay value. I've made many builds for co-op, PvP, and going through the story in a different way and I've invested many hours into doing each of those. There are short cuts to areas of the game and once you really know the areas, you can work your way through them very quickly.

Atmosphere: This is in large part due to the story, graphics, soundtrack, and level design. The atmosphere in Bloodborne is excellent. It's very dreadful, very dark and, as you get to know what's going on around you, it's very unsettling.

Multiplayer: You can make entire builds solely for co-op or PvP regardless of the story mode and play that way. Of course you'd need to know the levels in order to build this way effectively (shortcuts to items, etc.) but the game can definitely sustain itself on multiplayer. Helping others out with bosses, invading other worlds, it's all good fun and it's rewarding too.

Taking all of this into consideration, can we make the case that Bloodborne is one of the greatest games of all time? It's not a casual game and it's an exclusive so it doesn't have a very far reaching audience but despite that it excels because those who do play it love it. This hinders its popularity when compared to other titles such as The Witcher, but I'm talking purely from a quality standpoint. Bloodborne really does something special with its soundtrack, story, and gameplay that I think is very unique and unlike any other game out there.

Bloodborne is an amazing variation of the Souls formula that changes the environmental and mechanical aspects to freshen up the series, but offers less originality and diversity in its design than previous entries.

Story: Your praise of the story is in the way it's told. I agree. The way the Souls series handles its narrative by parsing out its knowledge for the player to discover is an ingenious way to tell it. It's narrative format parallels the enigmatic themes seen in the environmental, enemy, and mechanical design; however, this narration style has become formulaic, still good, but overtime it's become commonplace. The narrative itself isn't as original as the Dark Souls series and his direct inspiration are more painfully obvious. Read this passage:

But as I stood in the tower's topmost chamber, I beheld the horned waning moon, red and sinister, quivering through the vapours that hovered over the distant valley of Banof. And through an opening in the roof glittered the pale Pole Star, fluttering as if alive, and leering like a fiend and tempter. Methought its spirit whispered evil counsel, soothing me to traitorous somnolence with a damnable rhythmical promise which it repeated over and over:

Slumber, watcher, till the spheres,

Six and twenty thousand years

Have revolv'd, and I return

To the spot where now I burn.

Other stars anon shall rise

To the axis of the skies;

Stars that soothe and stars that bless

With a sweet forgetfulness:

Only when my round is o'er

Shall the past disturb thy door.

It's very reminiscent of Bloodborne's themes and manner of writing. H.P. Lovecraft was creating these ghastly passages long before Bloodborne.

Soundtrack: The soundtrack is good, but is often muddled by the blood-curdling shrieks of bosses. The sound design uses a minimalist approach, usually the orchestral soundtrack kicks in during bossfights, so it's disappointing when almost every boss you fight is shrieking their lungs out and obscuring the score.

Gameplay: The emphasis on action and changes to backstabbing, parrying, regaining health, and dodging were wonderful, yet it's much more restrictive than other Souls RPGs in terms of weapon choices and character builds. I don't necessarily think it's a worse thing, especially because Bloodborne wants you to play a very specific way, but I can see why other people might have problems with the lack of variety. I want to liken the changes made to the atmosphere and environments of Bloodborne; a lot of the places you visit are reminiscent of prior areas (especially in the DLC), but they're warped and made into new nightmares.

Replayability: The Souls games establish a circuit loop system on the first playthrough. Die. Repeat. So it's no wonder a ton of people want to endlessly run through the games; plus there are always areas missed on first playthroughs. One draw to replaying the souls game were different character builds which is lacking in bloodborne, so I think replayability takes a hit.

Atmosphere: Nails the gothic horror and labyrinthine lovecraftian architecture. Variety of the atmosphere takes a hit because of this, but it's still amazing.

Overall Bloodborne is amazing. It's following an award winning formula with some tweaks to spruce it up, but Dark Souls specifically outclasses it in a lot of categories.

From what I've played so far, I'm loving it, though it doesn't quite carry the same impact as Dark Souls did personally. The combat and encounter designs have improved greatly and the atmosphere is just about perfect, but in playing DS beforehand, the mystery behind how it's designed isn't as mysterious.

Actually closer to the worst game ever, the main character is constantly dying, and enemies that reappear in an area you just spent forever clearing, slow progression and even slower weapon upgrades.

It's Dark Souls with a different back drop..... i hated it.

It's in my top 10 favorite games of all time. The lore, music, art style, level design, atmosphere are all amazing and no RPG can match its combat mechanics. Also has one of the best collection of bosses in any game.

EDGE put it as #4 on their best games of all time list and Eurogamer put it as #2, so there are gaming sites out there that consider it one of the best games of all time.

Why are people so obsessed about lists anyway?

What't the difference if people consider the game "one of the best games of all time" or not? People who already love it will continue to do so and everyone else won't do so anyway. It's so pointless...

Assuming all games involved are basically designed the same, I tend to consolidate all titles belonging to a single franchise into one category of notoriety. As such--even with its more severe differences--I hold Bloodborne in the same esteem as I do the rest of the Souls series. In which case, I'd put the franchise within my top twenty.

It's storytelling is top-notch not simply because of its innovation and creativity, but also because it was so effective at capturing the Lovecraftian decor that made his stories so mysteriously ominous (or ominously mysterious, as the case may be) and bleak--or perhaps I should say "macabre".

As with all member of the franchise however, its targeting system is a four-letter word.

The downfall of Bloodborne was that it was too limiting in build and playstyle, so much so that Miyazaki wanted to go back to Dark Souls.

Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time, yes.

I still want to go back and get all the trophies one day. Maybe get the expansions. I doubt I'll ever figure out every single lore and hidden secret outside of the ones tied to a trophy.

That's what throws me off about the game I will admit. It's a lot to take in like remembering the map and remembering what you have or have not done and a lot of YouTube watching for getting trophies.

So I take it a step at a time and I still consider it the best game ever even though I clocked in more hours in fallout 4 in one week than I have in any game since I got the ps4.

I don't necessarily disagree, I've just been waiting a long time to post that image. I worked really hard on it.

Happy new year, texasgoldderp :3

To be honest am a bit disappointed its not as hard as people let on and the lore is not as good as the souls series, I'm currently fighting Rom the spider. Its a solid game but by no means the master piece people are making out

Played it, and it's overrated. It's worse than all the Souls games and From even admitted that they dumbed it down Demon and Dark Souls were too hard for the average Playstation gamer. The average PS Gamer isn't smart and need linear, self moving corridor games with dumb AI and QTE every 10 seconds, like Order 1886 and Uncharted

If there were no such games Demons, Dark 1&2 Souls to come out first, then sure. But all it did was tweak those games a bit and turn out great.
