Is borderlands' cover supposed to be a joke?

seriously!

let's put gaemeplay discussions away and talk about this cover for just a bit. comes out in 2 days.

i know im not the only one to hate on this cover,but honestly, is this a joke? gamespot recently had an article on impulse buys and how cover art makes a decision in impules buys. tbh, how could anyone impulse buy a cover like that? .. right...

Yes, it's suppose to be a joke and not taken seriously either.

I'll rent the console version(doesn't matter) since the PC version comes out next Monday(the one I'm buying).

Yes. people could easily impulse buy this. It's one of the best and most creative covers in the history of gaming. It matches the game insane nature.

I love the look of it. But I cant buy it yet. All my extra money is going on Forza 3 :( We get it on Friday. If only I had my loans in, it would be a double mammy of awesome!

I love the cover... and it's pretty obvious that they aren't marketing it with a serious approach (thinks back to the Mainstream'd Video :P). Either way it will be a great game and I'm getting it for PS3 for friends and maybe PC.

What is wrong with the cover - you have yet to explain what you dislike about it. If anything, it fits just fine. The world in Borderlands is chaotic with a tribal warfare like mentality, where people survive on how well they can be brutal. It IS a mature game after all. I suggest you explain your beef with it at least.

It will stand out on a shop shelf far more than any other cover, thats what the impulse buyer will see. Bright colour, crazy art, its an eye catcher.

The cover is really catchy, stylized and to an extent, badass. It draws your attention to it, and simply drawing your attention to a product and getting your hands on it is half the battle of making someone purchase something. Borderlands' cover art is the coolest since Burnout Paradise's boxart.

Personally I think that this cover is one of the most bad ass covers in a long time. Its just reflects the style and nature of the game.

I love that cover. I'm not getting the game ( I don't have the console it's being released on) and the game doesn't really interest me, but that cover is killer.

I think it does it's job by conveying the essence of what the game presents.

They sell Smashing Pumpkin Zero shirts in my Hot Topic. The kids all wore those when I was in high school, too.

Of course, though, I'm kidding, but I can make the same kind of argument, but it still holds no water whatsoever.

The Borderlands cover caters to a good large chunk of gamers, including myself, someone who doesn't shop in those stores you mentioned. I did when I was younger, though.

I think it's one of the best covers in quite a while. Usually the US gets shafted with CG overload, but for once we'll get some cover art that looks like it was done by a graphic designer.

For whatever reason a lot of people think the cover is awesome. Guess I'm one of the few that thinks it's absolutely horrid.

its boss. nice to see a change from the usual boring 'a guy in armour with a gun' or 'a muscly dude standing around with a weapon' covers. i would buy a poster of it. not like the art matters.

I think it looks great. Very, very stylized. I think it makes the average joe who walks in to the store go "Hey! He blew a gun to his head! Hey wait, that's not blood! And why does he look unfazed by all that stuff blasting out of his head! Well I better flip the cover over and see what its about!"

I think that the cover looks cool. I can not wait to get Borderlands. I liked Fallout 3 except real time shooting sucked in that game. I also enjoyed Farcry 2 even though it was not perfect. Borderlands seems like best parts of Farcry 2 and Fallout 3 rolled into one. I also dig the look of the game.

I wish that the game had armor loot though. I have a suspicion that it will be DLC content down the road.

I love the cover and as it seems alot of other people do to. So this brings me to my question, is this thread a joke?

Actually if anyone decides to buy the game as their own or just to simply rent it to play it, they can more or less already tell what the nature of the game is about based on the cover's art concept which indeed makes a lot of sense and truly explains what type of game it is if you look at it carefully. Okay, let's see if i can go back to my days of art class back in college to explain this or atleast the message that the cover art is trying to send across. As we all know or well atleast whoever has seen the previews for this game may already be aware that this game is yes indeed a shooter but at the same time, it's depicted to be that of a well "deranged" sorta world where psychotic and well war torn battles seem to stem over large land masses by demented as well as sane individuals (and i meant sane there not insane). Now if you notice the guy in the center, just by his appearance (especially the mask), you can already begin to imagine that he's sorta on a psychopathic path or is atleast involved in a world of madness and destruction and well by the way of which he positions his hand towards the head area of the body (mainly the mind), that's what they'll call the "focal point" in which he want's to direct the viewer's eyes, he clearly is drawn on the cover in this way to hint at what exactly this game is about as well you can further tell by the added emphasis of the pale looking splattered background layer situated behind his head displaying exactly what is taking place within the game's world as well as adding more emphasis to that psychotic, violent-like nature that the enemies within the game showcase based on how the splattered piece is positioned from the head area (or mind, if you will) of the guy. Through the splattered background, the artists that designed the cover's concept basically provides a "still" preview of what his world is like that the player is about to step into which is basically a "World of madness," YEE-HAW!!!!. P.S.....sorry for the art lesson, i know class isn't in session, lol!! :)
