I just started playing after beating 3D World and man, this game rocks. This is what Super Mario Odyssey should've been. A true open world Mario that captures the element of surprise and exploration. Almost like a modern version of Super Mario 64. I'm digging this direction, although I don't care about Bowser constantly attacking. Just give me this kind of open world Mario. What do you think, SW? Is Bowser's Fury the future of Mario games? Do you want it to be?

It's a really great game although it needs to be further developed. Level design while interesting is not quite up to the best Mario 3D has offered.

I really wish Nintendo had more powerful hardware because how this game plays with scale it would be amazing with proper full scale physics based destruction. But I'll have to say it too the graphics are pretty fantastic.

Bowser being a timed opponent in the later game when collecting Cat Shines is annoying as shit. Overall, the game was really great and added an open-world aspect with individual platforming levels.

@SolidGame_basic: I very much enjoyed 3D World on Wii U. Never thought Bowser's Fury was worth another purchase.

3D World felt more like a 2D platformer as opposed to say Mario Galaxy.

I'm in no rush to a 3D World sequel. But a hybrid of Odyssey and Galaxy would be welcome. I always felt Odyssey had waaayy too many moons.

Haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm sure there's good stuff in there, Nintendo delivers the goods with 3d Mario games. But I'd really be bummed if Nintendo makes another Mario game as mechanically constrained as 3D World. Good game, but just no room to flex.

Anyways, Bowsers Fury could be a hint towards the next installment in some ways, but wouldn't say the future of Mario games plural. Just because we know Nintendo doesn't roll like that, always mixing it up with 3d Mario mechanics and spaces.

I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to a fully fleshed out Bowser’s Fury type game as the next Super Mario game. Had a lot of fun playing it myself. Probably wouldn’t want Bowser popping up all the time on a timer and would like some different bosses sprinkled in there.

Not too sure how does one care about Mario. They could kill the IP like what has happened to Metroid and i wouldn't even notice.

I really enjoyed it, but totally disagree about this is what Odyssey should've been. I think Odyssey is a masterpiece.

But BF is definitely a cool Mario experience.

I will have to wait, I picked up the Mario Galaxy / Sunshine / 64 combo before it went away forever, and it will be a while before I can start that.

Curious though, how much extra content is there over the Mario 3D World I would have played on Wii U?

Yeah Odyssey was underwhelming. The aesthetic in Bowser's Fury seems more in line with Mario and so does the gameplay. Odyssey was a weird Kirby Mario mashup. They went for a realistic art style, disappointing. The food place and lost world were good, and the cap kingdom, but most of the game lacked that style.

I agree.

I like 2D Mario WAY more than 3D Mario, but I would rather see 3D Mario go FAR away from the 64 type play and more towards the Galaxy type play in the 3D realm personally.

I'm really happy Super Mario 3D World got an expansion.

In fact Nintendo did so for lots of Wiiu games ... but not every single one.

Maybe. Impossible to predict. Sometimes it feels like Nintendo decide their next Mario game by pinning a bunch of basic gameplay ideas to a wall and throwing a dart.

Anybody outside of Nintendo who thinks they know what their next move will be is probably wrong. Nintendo is the most unpredictable and innovative company in the gaming industry.

@dzimm: Exactly. I never imagined Nintendo opening up a theme park. Look at them now :o

I'd like to try it, but I'm not buying 3D World on Switch. The main game is probably the worst 3D Mario I've played. Not worth 60 buckaroonies for Bowser's Fury.

Im ashamed to say Nintendo got me. I downloaded 3D World/Bowsers Fury alongside the 3D All Stars Collection the day before the deadline because of the FOMO lol.

Bowsers Fury is the best Mario game I've ever played. Its better than Odyssey, and much better than Galaxy. As is 3D World.

Both games (3D World/Bowsers Fury) are very "pick up and play" and immediately get you into the gameplay loop. Unlike Galaxy which had unneccesary cinematic buildup and hand holding, and a long tutorial. Both of the "new" games get you straight into the action.

Back to the "pick up and play" thing, I like that the game feels designed to be played in short bursts, which is how I like to play Nintendo games.

Yea man, Bowser's Fury is awesome. I did the campaign and I also did most of the post campaign, and while it's a short game (wasn't counting, but 4 hours I guess?) it's packed with just pick up and play fun. I get lost in just exploring and doing stuff. Agree with you that it's better than Odyssey and I wasn't going to go as far as better than Galaxy, but I think it may be.

Is it just me or does this game really lacking from an aesthetic standpoint? The environments are so bland and repetitive. Most of the platforms are single colored blocks. It just feels so empty.
