Whats the point of making a game so godamned hard that it alienates buyers? I did not buy Demon's Souls solely because of its difficulty.
Same reason I didn't play Super Meat Boy, and same reason I will not play any more Ninja Gaidens.

Exactly my same thoughts, and before anyone claim that is for teh "hardcores" well, think about this, i don't have as much time to play as i used to, so spending days or even weeks mastering a game is not an option, so, if Dark Souls is not as frustrating as Demon's Souls (according to some people), then 'll be happy.
Its optional, if you dont want to use them dont. Also, if I read correctly they are only available at certain spots. If anything this may encourage developers to make the game harder as you now have more check points to reduce frustration.
Demons Souls was too easy for my tastes, and as a result, I doubt I will use these Beacon Fires in Dark Souls.
Edit: This may just be a replacement for the nexus. Dont be too worried.
Well said, I agree.Sounds ok, but personally I thought the waystones in the original worked well enough as checkpoints, the levels weren't that long to be honest.

I've been wanting to get Demon's Souls, but the difficulty (and, the lack of an epic story) keeps me away, why people think it was really hard but you think it was easy, or in what way the game is hard, it is cheap or something like that?
If you read the story it doesn't sound as though they are making it easier, but rather just adding checkpoints since there are no levels in the game. I don't care for the life refilling idea, but this still doesn't mean that the battles will be watered down. Guess we just have to wait and see if this changes the game any...
"It's called the Beacon Fire, and they'll be dotted throughout Dark Souls' intimidating realm, offering a spot of light relief in a game of punishing hardness. You can use the Beacon Fires to restore your life gauge, and they also act as – get this – CHECKPOINTS. So no more being booted back to the very start of the level devoid of all your gear. While this may sound like From Software selling out on the game's challenge, they are in fact a necessity, because there aren't any levels in Dark Souls."
This isn't watering down if the difficulty is still there. Repeating Demon's relatively short levels* after death was no big deal but Dark doesn't have "levels". Sounds fine.
*Many of which had short cuts; the gate in 4-4, pit in 2-2, giant throbbing heart thing in 3-2, bridge in 5-1 (or 5-2?), etc.
No where in that article does it state it's being watered down. The game is vastly larger than Demon's Souls in scope and size, and it doesn't have a level hub like the first game. It's just full exploration from start to finish. Of course it's going to have checkpoint system in place but it will also have that punishing gameplay that we all know and love. That is certainly what made Demon's Souls great. It could be like any other game and be a total cakewalk but then that wouldn't be fun.
Obviously yes, an exclusive going multiplat couldn't possibly mean anything other than the fact it is now obsolete to system wars... let the hate commence!
I think 'The Beacon of Fire' sounds like a great idea. After all, there is no Nexus here and this will be a place to meet up with other players, heal and take breaks in between what I am sure is gameplay that is plenty challenging. Also, don't forget that it is going to be more open and is being designed to be explored. Having areas that essentially amount to rest stops with campfires seems like a perfect way to balance making the game more open. No worries here.

The difficulty of Demon's Souls didn't alienate...it did the exact opposite.

The difficulty dephends a lot on your equipment and such. If you equip less than 50% of your total equip burden you can roll and move at full speed making evasion a breeze. However equip more than 50% and your rolls will be slowed down making you less evasive. Further making the game easier is the excess healing items I found (being a thief may have been a big part of that).
If you hope for the best but expect the worst you should get by just fine, enemies often hide behind walls. From what I hear the difficulty came from dying in 3-4 shots and the fact that there are very few check points. As it happens I am not used to having check points in games anyway and recently I played an RPG with no healing and archers could take out all your life in one hit if they shot you in the head all while having no checkpoints.
The story in Demons Souls is massively underrated. It wasnt very much in your face and instead was subtle just like Majora's Mask. This link contains spoilers.
Demon's Souls wasn't particularily difficult. Also, people really need to learn to read.
While this may sound like From Software selling out on the game's challenge, they are in fact a necessity, because there aren't any levels in Dark Souls. The world is seamless and interconnected, so we reckon the Beacon Fires may act more like markers separating different areas of the map as opposed to checkpoints. Good. Checkpoints are for wimps.
Demon's Souls is only hard if you don't know what you're doing and don't do any research on the wiki. I'm sure Dark Souls will be like this too :PJack-o-Thompsonfor awhile there probably won't be a wiki. Which made playing the asian version of demon's souls a lot more trial and error than it is now. There was a small japanese wiki and maps that were created about a month after it's release, but nothing nearly as helpful as what there is now. Figuring out how to work the tendencies was extremely difficult.
as for this game being watered down, I don't think it will be. And for those who say they haven't bought demon's souls due to difficulty, these games weren't made for you - gamers looking for a cake walk. It has been selling just fine without your purchase anyways.
Back when an actual Demons Souls 2 was in the talks, Sony wanted From Software to make the game easier, to appeal to more people.
Supposedly From Software refused any talks about making the game easier.
From Software has always made games that are EXTREMLY loyal to their fans, for example their entire Armored Core series of games, which i own some of btw.

Basically if you die, and you will, you lose all of your collected souls (currency/stat points). you have to go back and pick them up and if you fail to do so and die again you lose them forever. Weapons break overtime, so do shields, you have to manage those properly and they can be fixed, using souls. If you play connected, people can just jump in your game and attack you for the pleasure of it, no matter where you are on the stage, excluding boss fights. The boss fights can be rediculous if you're not well equipped. Most people who say it's easy, not all but most, probably used a guide. There's a lot more, too much to state in a forum though. It's just a hard game and a great game as well. Even better than games that are plot driven. Many gamers didnt dare to play Demon's Souls because of the difficulty so if they make Dark's Souls more accessible then the game would sell much better, that means more $$$ for them. Who doesnt like more $$$ ?
If the "hardcores" want the level of challenge of emon's Souls, then play it on the hardest difficulty level, and who doesnt have skills or time or dont want to get so frustrated, can play it in easy.Everyone is happy.
Its called difficulty settings. the people who are making Dark Souls need to learn about it. Hard setting for the hardcore, easy for the casual and bam, everybody is happy.

Demon Soul's wasn't that hard. Look at my platinum for proof! Some gamers have less skill than others it seems. Demon Soul's is developed for gamers who posses a higher level of tenacity and patience.. What do you guys think?

However, some people enjoy the challenge and unforgiving gameplay, it's what makes it soooo addicting.yeah, and ninja gaidens not THAT bad.
