I **** hope they don't water it down. Demons Soul's was the most epic **** i played on a console this gen. Hell it was even a damn jrpg. I hope Dark Souls will be hard and unforgiving.
I actually hope Dark Souls will have difficulty settings, easy for people who think DS is too hard and Hard for people who think it is too easy. That way we all win. :) Either way these beakon fires seem like a really good idea considering the game is now open world.
Basically if you die, and you will, you lose all of your collected souls (currency/stat points). you have to go back and pick them up and if you fail to do so and die again you lose them forever. Weapons break overtime, so do shields, you have to manage those properly and they can be fixed, using souls. If you play connected, people can just jump in your game and attack you for the pleasure of it, no matter where you are on the stage, excluding boss fights. The boss fights can be rediculous if you're not well equipped. Most people who say it's easy, not all but most, probably used a guide. There's a lot more, too much to state in a forum though. It's just a hard game and a great game as well. Even better than games that are plot driven.[QUOTE="madsnakehhh"]
I've been wanting to get Demon's Souls, but the difficulty (and, the lack of an epic story) keeps me away, why people think it was really hard but you think it was easy, or in what way the game is hard, it is cheap or something like that?

Durability is hardly an issue, you will find plenty of Ed's Grindstones out there and only your weapon and shield will degrade durabilitywise and nothing else. In addition the degrading is so slow you should easily be able to clear 2-4 stages or so without needing to repair. Other players can invade you, but the problem here is that invaders will only have around 50% of their max life meaning you can kill them in a single hit if they havent spent enough on vitality and as a result most invaders were more of a nuisance than an actual threat. Most boss fights are pushovers though there are a few challanging ones. Get a pattern down and most bosses (and enemies) will have a difficult time even hitting you, finding this pattern wasnt hard either.
Maybe most people who thought it was easy are simply used to playing games that are actually hard, like this. I am definately one of those people and so were my all my friends who also said it was too easy.

Its optional, if you dont want to use them dont. Also, if I read correctly they are only available at certain spots. If anything this may encourage developers to make the game harder as you now have more check points to reduce frustration.
Demons Souls was too easy for my tastes, and as a result, I doubt I will use these Beacon Fires in Dark Souls.
Edit: This may just be a replacement for the nexus. Dont be too worried.

It isn't that hard if you use the wiki along with your first playthrough. I died more from making mistakes and not knowing what was coming next than I did from enemies. And if you're struggling on a bit, put down a summon stone and wait for help.Demon's Souls was difficult because there were NO CHECKPOINTS! THAT'S THE ONLY REASON! If you took checkpoints out of Call of Duty would we be praising it's humbling gameplay? I don't think so. If there were checkpoints in DS, it would be a 2 1/2 hour game - they really didn't have a choice.

In all honesty, Demon's souls wasn't hard. It was more a trial and error game... granted, you'll think it's hard as hell first, but once you know what to do, it becomes really simple.
Demon's souls should've never be goty TBH.
there were 2 forms of checkpoints. the archstones that uou unlocked after you killed a boss and the shortcuts found about midway in every stage which allowed you to continue from that midway point upon dying. some stages even had multiple shortcuts.Demon's Souls was difficult because there were NO CHECKPOINTS! makes me wonder if you've even played it..
And anyway, its one thing for a game to be difficult, but booting someone all the way back to the beginning isn't really necessary. That's just encouraging memorization."It's called the Beacon Fire, and they'll be dotted throughout Dark Souls' intimidating realm, offering a spot of light relief in a game of punishing hardness. You can use the Beacon Fires to restore your life gauge, and they also act as – get this – CHECKPOINTS. So no more being booted back to the very start of the level devoid of all your gear. While this may sound like From Software selling out on the game's challenge, they are in fact a necessity, because there aren't any levels in Dark Souls."
This isn't watering down if the difficulty is still there. Repeating Demon's relatively short levels* after death was no big deal but Dark doesn't have "levels". Sounds fine.
*Many of which had short cuts; the gate in 4-4, pit in 2-2, giant throbbing heart thing in 3-2, bridge in 5-1 (or 5-2?), etc.

I've heard they want to make it harder. If they throw a easy mode in there I don't think they'll water it down.
Is this game on PC, no game is watered or dumbed down unless its on PC

Dungeon crawlers are not as linear and cut up into levels like Demon's Souls, you don't die and restart the dungeon again. Perhaps you're thinking of roguelikes? But even then that's stretching it.

curious what you would consider kings field? or something like smt: strange journey? In strange journey after you die you return to your last save point.[QUOTE="Yangire"]
