Would anyone vote for Uncharted 2? I sure would. One of the best third person game I've played in many years. Dark Souls is amazing BTW.
No ! Its an overly hard game thats annoying for no reason ... N i lost a bet cuz i knew nothing about the game thinking it can't be that hard ... while i got far in the game its impossible without a guide ... theres no path that says go here go there ... its just imo not worth the effort

It needs a cover system and gunz, lots and lots of gunz!
:D

Don't forget about teh explosions and space marines :o
Also the obnoxious "jam splatter" effect on the screen when you get hit and a cutscene every 8th step.

Yeah it's called Learning through exploration. It gives the gamer control over what to do and where to go. So many games these days have stupid waypoints highlighting everything or tutorials telliing you exactly where to go. Dark Souls is everything gaming should be. No hand holding and let the gamer decide what's going on.
I managaed to find my way around the game world fairly easily, at first it's intimidating but not "Impossible" sounds like you gave up too easily
Or are my friends full of it?SonyNintendoFanIn terms of fun I'd take Uncharted 2, Dragon Dogma and even Kingdom of Amular over Dark Souls. It terms of hardcore challenge and best JRPG Strategy game, yes. Dark Soul is a thinking man's JRPG. It's not for everyone. Whereas the other games I've listed is for everyone.

No Dark souls is NOT the best third Person game ever, from a gameplay perspective it is average, setting is steller (I like how they pretty much took D&D and make it Ravenloft-ish dark, while having a fluidRPG system which focuses on weapons and rythm.
Is it the hardest game ever? No it is not even in the top of ballbreakingly hard games, gamesI playied that are harder would be near all Roguelikes, and the Original X-com aswell as the good old Smups.
So basicly it is a quite good setting (but since it barrows heavily from another game, I can not say it is original at all), it is likely one of the harder games this gen, but it is NOT one of the hardest of all time, by a long stretch.
The way I see it, Dark souls is pretty close to how games tended to be a few gens back, which may very well be why it is so well liked. But due to the lack of peers in this gen, it does get more credit then it deserves. (And no I do not mean it is bad, but best third person game ever? No Personal favorite maybe, likely if one started playing in this gen)
Overrated game is overrated. Ugly graphics, ugly gameplay, ugly story, and especially the ugly low frames per second.
It's funny. I actually beat the game last night.
While the game does have it's issues. It's a blast and easily one of the best games of this generation.
I'd say it's up there in the top 10. I would rank RE4,Batman Arkham City,Uncharted 2,ME series and MGS4 then Dark Souls

I recommend trying to actually play Dark Souls before you call it "JRPG Strategy" :D

There's no true best of all time, as it's all opinion. I haven't found anything matches it, having played many games from the first gen onwards. The gameplay is above average, I mean the combat is far better than The Witcher's or Skyrim's for example, and I like the way the challenge is set up, plus the levelling up system and weapon upgrade system works so well. It borrows from Demon's Souls as you would expect, but I see it as building on it, the way it changed to a more open world. Besides the gameplay, another big thing I love about the Souls games is that they create a very convincing game world, more so than other games I've played. Also, Dark Souls is a beautiful looking game. I have to disagree with people who think the graphics are bad. It's not technically the most impressive game, but the art work more than makes up for it. The sound is perfect too.
[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]Came in here to say the same damn thing. The thing is I was only thinking 3rd person action games. Actic Edge pointed out it's third person games in general. Including stuff like Yoshi's Island and sh1t. I mean Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are fantastic games. Probably my pick for best of gen. But that is some pedestal you are putting the games on for calling them the best third person games ever. I mean. That's a big list of excellent games .Resident Evil 4 and Ninja Gaiden Black \o/

I was just thinking third person games action games because that makes more sense. Because when you throw games like, oh, I dunno, Super Mario Galaxy 2 on there, that claim becomes very suspect. And especially when RE4 and NGB exist. Not saying they aren't excellent games, but you'd have a better chance at making an argument for "Best Action RPG" or something.Resident Evil 4 and Ninja Gaiden Black \o/
