He should have been a movie director and leave games to game designers.
I've played every Quantic Dream game since Farenheit and they have never failed to tell an enthralling emotional story. Heavy Rain to this day is the only video game that has made me cry and Detroit looks like it will be even better! Cage deserves credit for the wonderful stories he has written throughout the years. :)
Heavy Rain was better then Beyond Two Souls. Ethans story about his son was more emotional than Jodie and Aidens story. Cage needs to keep his games based in reality though. The Ghost story of Beyond Two Souls doesnt hold interest like the child killer thriller of Heavy Rain. The great thing about QD games is they bring the ladies in. Most dudes dont enjoy games like Heavy Rain and Beyond because there is not a lot of button mashing. This is probably why Nintendo dominates when it comes to women and girl gamers. Nintendo does a great job of making games that allows the player to not only think while playing, but they allow their players to enjoy the results. Not like those stupid Call of Duty games where you die over and over and just respawn. The interactive genre is good for gaming and anyone who denounce the genre is a fool.
Coming from a Playstation only owner, I should rather bleed my eyes out with another Transformers, Twilight saga than to watch and play a clumsy B-movie David Cage interactive YouTube video.
this^ except i'm not a PS only owner.
His "games" are everything thats wrong with the industry today
maybe not the best storeis... but his games do a great job of getting the player involved and hopefully wrapped up into the story he is telling
Its fun to watch casual play it. Coolyfett had is grandma play some heavy rain last thanksgiving. She would actually flinch and scream while playing. Its the music in Heavy Rain that does it. She got all the way to the part where Ethan loses his son, but the family had to eat so she never beat it. This sort of thing is what gaming as an industry needs. Games witll good visuals that everyone can play, grandmas included. When gamers try to make gaming nothing but FPS and the like it keeps the casuals from trying the medium, which keeps gaming from growing. Hopefully more developers make more titles that are easy to play and thrilling at the same time. Gaming should be about the experience. Mario does it for some, Solid Snake does it for others. everyone is different.
Did I just hear that Indigo prophecy had good story telling, because uh, what.
You know the plagiarized partially stolen story from the invisibles.

I have a feeling he tried to get into making movies, but couldn't find anyone willing to use him.
I don't feel that David Cage is the best storyteller in the industry, based off of what I've played of his games. Idk, I can't say if I know who's the best, or if the best storyteller is even someone that has worked on a game that I have really liked. I guess it depends on what you think makes a good story.
I'll also add that I hope he makes the Dark Magician tech demo from E3 a few years ago into a game eventually. It seemed like it could have been a funny game.

I take it you never played anything by Quantic Dream. I'd say visual novels offer about the same level of interactivity those games do besides the reaction time tests.
Sam Lake wipes the floor with his games. David Cage is a bad game designer and a bad storyteller.

I've played a few of Quantic Dream games, and I'd put them in the same category. Interactive movies and visual novels are very similar, except that interactive movies give you a bit more interactivity (like moving the character around or QTE sequences), while visual novels usually have much better writing and deeper meaningful choices.
Detroit: Become Human looks like he basically threw the most common sci-fi/drama cliches and called it a day. There was nothing unique about that trailer. Generic doesn't always equate to bad though. His best asset is his capacity to instill emotion in the audience and their attachment to the characters.
I'm really surprised that people shit on Heavy Rain this much. The script and voice acting have problems (leading to some unfortunate comedy), but the plot of that game was really great. Emotionally, it really, really succeeds. How can you not feel bad for Ethan? The characters being able to be killed permanently is intense and highly successful.
Beyond Two Souls is poop, and Farenheight was half poop, but David Cage doesn't suck. The hate thrown at this guy is pretty incredible.
His story telling isn't great, but he does deserve credit for laying the foundation for modern adventure games in the West. All of Telltale's games since Walking Dead were obviously deeply influenced by Heavy Rain, as were Until Dawn and Life is Strange. The shift towards removing/limiting puzzles, concentrating on storytelling and dialogue choices, and then branching plots (and character deaths) from those choices were all pioneered by Heavy Rain. Beyond Two Souls was his only real misstep so far, although it was gorgeous to look at.
That said, the story in Heavy Rain had plot holes and Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit just became downright silly as it went on.
Coolyfett just watched his wife and her cousin play Beyond Two Souls lastnight. That game is really long, but boy is it fun to watch their reactions. The two player tag team gameplay of Two Souls is great. Coolyfett only wishes he still had Heavy Rain for them to play. Coolyfett has no beef with Cage or QD at all. Hopefully more decision based games get released and the genre grows. LA Noire is also a great game. Everything doesnt have be skill bases where you kill zombies and aliens over and over. Open it up.

Yeah I've always enjoyed his games.
@Jag85: never heard of any of those games? Are those Nintendo games?
They're all visual novels (VNs), a genre of interactive fiction and/or adventure games that specialize in interactive storytelling and choices & consequences. The only Nintendo system you'll find them on is the 3DS, but otherwise, they're far more common on PC, and more recently, the PS Vita. Visual novels usually have the best writing and storytelling in the game industry (often comparable to the writing quality of films, television, and books), but at the same time, their gameplay is usually very limited.
