Having owned a ps4 for a while now, I gotta say the dualshock 4 is pretty amazing. The form and weight are perfect and it just feels right in my hands. I even like the little touch pad thingy. X1 controller is pretty nice too, but just not as snug imo. My top three of all time would be:

1. Dualshock 4

2. N64 controller

3. Gamecube controller

I get the notion that many people didn't like those two Nintendo controllers, but I thought they were great. You, SW? Your top 3?

I like the 360 controller the most. I've not had a chance to try the XBone or Wii U yet.

Yes. Also, minus the Z button, the N64 controller was a piece of garbage that should not have got past QA.

N64 controller was garbage. Anyone who likes it is just nostalgic. Getting it to fit in your hand is a fucking puzzle in itself.

For me, it's the

The best? God no. It has a solid feel to it (much better than the ps2/ps3 controllers) but like ALL controllers from the PS family it has CRAP THUMBSTICKS. Ugh they are just terrible and for the life of me i can't understand why they continue with them. They are way too loose, have no textile feedback on your thumbs (Ps4 improves on this somewhat admittedly)

The best controller ever will always be the GC. It was perfect. Xbox 360 is second.

@smashed_pinata: Goddamit, you had some decent points and then you ruined it by calling the GameCube's controller perfect.

Why man, why

I haven't tried the new Dual shock yet. It looks more comfortable than the model they've been using for over a decade though.

1) Gamecube (perfect button and analogue placement and still the only controller that lets me wrap my long fingers around)

2) Wii U pro controller (the most comfortable controller ever made with an 80 hour battery life to boot)

3) Xbox 360 (really comfortable and the analogues are in the right places)

1- Xbox One Controller

2- DS4

3- Xbox 360 Controller

I have both an X1 and a PS4, most people who have come over and tried both agree the X1 is just better feeling in your hand. Shoulder buttons take some getting used to but are not bad. DS4 is heavily improved over the DS3 and that's awesome.

@Blabadon: BECAUSE IT IS. Ok maybe not PERFECT ( the z button is ridiculous) but other than that its extremely comfortable, has excellent button placement, comes in the best colours (purple!? dear god yes) and comes in wireless form ( WAVEBIRD :D)

Lol at Xbox one being tops..... The 360 controller shits all over it. Sure the rumble triggers are great but the angles and actual size of the one controller make it incredibly uncomfortable for someone with big hands.

Yep, best controller by far.

Xbone controller is mediocre in comparison.

And lol at N64 or GC controllers being in your top list. Those were probably some of the worst controllers ever made.

Haven't tried the XB1 or PS4's controllers, but i feel like the xbox 360 controller is just great. I prefer it over the PS controllers myself.

Haven't tried the older console controllers either.

Yes because taking a few stand out examples and spreading it across as the status quo is exactly how the world works.

Eh, no.

Probably in the top three though. GCN and Xbox 360 controllers will forever be the GOAT.

I hear Wii U Pro is very good as well, but I have never personally used it, so I'll refrain from commenting much on it.

ds4 is very good, not used it enough to have a real strong opinion on it though. x1 controller is a step back from x360 which was damn near perfect, all they needed was a better dpad and u would have the perfect controller but the stick are very loose on x1 and shoulder buttons are terrible.

and n64 controller was the shittiest controller ever made, how are u even meant to hold that thing

It's a big step up from the DS 3 but still not as good as the 360 controller. With DS 4 my index fingers rest in between the bumper and trigger. Trigger is used much more than bumper in most games so I would rather my finger rest on the trigger like it does on the 360 controller.

Similar problem with the sticks. On DS 4 my thumbs rest hanging off the edge of the sticks while my thumbs rest almost perfectly in the middle of the sticks on 360.

this is the best controller I have ever used... For fighting games and old-school games of course. If it had sticks I would use it for everything since you can use both on PS3, but the one with sticks has square chambers. What were they thinking when they did that? I don't know.

But both the N64 and GC controller were horrible. They had good ergonomics but that was it.

Anyone who places the DS4 at number 1 of their top 3 list has never held an Xbox 360 controller or they just plain have bad taste in controllers.

It was definitely a weird controller but let me educate you. It was designed so that you could use it like a classic SNES controller or with the analogue stick. Most games only utilized the analogue stick method.

I really do like the X1 controller the best, no fanboy shit. I would go from using the X1 controller and using the 360 controller on my PC and I could tell a big difference. I am glad I can finally use the X1 controller on the PC now.

I guess I don't have the largest hands in the world but unless you are Shaq I don't see how it could be a problem

And yes the rumble triggers are very nice.

But this doesn't change the fact that the middle grip/handle was entirely unnecessary. It would've made much more sense to have just given the left side of the controller a trigger under the shoulder button, and moved the thumb stick closer to the D-Pad. That way, the trigger could be utilized while you're using the left grip with the D-Pad. And also, using the middle grip/handle prevents you from using the left shoulder button/D-Pad altogether unless you literally take your left hand off the controller and switch to the left grip, in which case the trigger is unusable. The N64's controller was just a fail design.

The Xbone gamepad is superior. The touch pad gimmick does nothing, and the ergonomics, while drastically improved over the Dualshock 1-3, aren't as good as the Xbone.

as controllers are basically technological improvements it is highly logical that the most recent controllers are far superior to older controllers.

I think the Xbox One and PS4 are both equally great... I like the touchpad and light when implemented well, but the same goes for the impulse triggers on the One's. I think that neither has been taken advantage of fully yet, though.

I just wish I could use the Xbox One control wirelessly on my PC.

It's not even top 3:

Xbox 360

Xbox One

Wii U Pro

GameCube

All of these are better. The symmetrical analog is horrible. And the only reason it gets any praise is because it's a step up from the terrible PS 1-3 controllers before it.
