I mean this Hideo guy keeps hyping up this franchise as if it were the end all be all game of any genre, it is good for what it is but it's not as great as people make it out to be. So is everyone over this franchise yet?

In a way, I wish it would have ended with Metal Gear Solid 4, as it was the best game ever made and ended perfectly with an incredibly epic ending scene.
But then Peace Walker came out (great game, definitely AAA quality) and now Rising... I hope for a 5th and maybe 6th that can end the franchise on a AAAA note.
I'm not tired of it seeing as I'm a big fan of the series but I just don't want to see it ruined, MGS4 was a great game still not my favorite. I was disspointed to see MGS PW mad for the psp I still played it but I think it would have been even better if they made it for the PS3/360 instead.
I would like to see Hideo Kojima move on to new projects and see how he does.
I don't tihnk that I will ever be tired of the MGS franchise, but more of the overall plot that seems to repeat itself. MGS1 -> nukes, MGS3 -> nukes, MGS:PO -> nukes, MGS:PW -> PW. Not to speak of even more spoiler related issues that seems to repeat.I mean this Hideo guy keeps hyping up this franchise as if it were the end all be all game of any genre, it is good for what it is but it's not as great as people make it out to be. Hmm I don't know...I was highly disapointed by MGS4, but loved Peace Walker. I wouldn't mind seeing one more Big Boss related title.
I get more tired of a franchise when they releash a new game frequently ( I don't count ports ) or if the last few ones weren't very good. But I think mgs 4 conclude things nicely, it shouldn't continue. If he makes a new one I'll play it
Oh yea, we are so swamped with solid single player games this gen.
Why can't we have more sports games, race games, FPS, or TPS. Seriously, there are some franchises that have been established THIS gen that have already beat the number of Metal Gear games released on one platform in one gen. There is nothing wrong with wanting more of a good series, it's not like we are spammed with MGS games like we are with COD games.
Well said. What we really need are fewer shooters...if COD would actually move the franchise forward I might be interested, but it hasn't progressed much since MW.Oh yea, we are so swamped with solid single player games this gen.

Nope. Why would I be? The MGS games are genre defining in the industry. We can always pick apart individual games in each series we thought sucked, we can even take apart components/elements of each of the games.
Yet it wouldn't matter because the Metal Gear games have a following like no other series out there because the fans know how incredible Kojima Productions are at making videogames.
The series will always have legendary status whether you think it's overrated or not. Plus how could you be tired of it? Get tired of Assassins Creed, CoD and Halo before you decide to get tired of Metal Gear, I'm already tired of those franchises and they haven't even been around half as long as Metal Gear.
I wouldn't go that far when there are plenty of other series that outsell or equal it>Yet it wouldn't matter because the Metal Gear games have a following like no other series out there because the fans know how incredible Kojima Productions are at making videogamegreenskittles
MGS is one of my favorite series and MGS1 is one of the absolutely best games of all time.
Still I don't expect any MGS title to ever be as good as MGS1 but I have no problem with Kojima trying :P

The games sell incredibly well and consistently. Plus I don't just mean a following in terms of pure numbers but in terms of loyalty and passion for a series.
Not even close.....
But the older games are hard to play because the mechanics are outdated, like I got the orgional PS1 MGS off the PS Store for about 8$ and I played through it but man doing some basic things was difficult! Like shooting in that game is SO hard and clumsy, I don't even know how I got throughit the first time, still awesome though.

I did a marathon close to a year ago, and i didn't really find MGS1 hard to play with the exception of the pixelated visuals in which i needed like 20 minutes to get used to. But after those 20 minutes it was smooth sailing from there on, and it was a fantastic experience. MGS1 is the best in this series.
MGS1 is the best in this series.Lucianu+1 I may have played more MGS2 and MGS3... but MGS is still the experience that stayed with me longest, and strongest.

I think MGS3 Snake Eater is the best IMO
It goes like this for me:
MGS3
MGS4
MGS1
MGS2
I think MGS3 Snake Eater is the best IMOShadowMoses900It is up there... but nothing matches the original.
MGS3 is the pinnicle of the series for me. MGS4 was a huge disappointment, but I'm not willing to entirely write off the series yet. I think it needs a bit more gameplay and a little less homo erotic choreography, mysogyny and constant re-iteration of plot ad nauseum.

The story in MGS3 was fantastic, it was a great journey to witness the history of Big Boss. I didn't like the added fat to the gameplay though, but since i finished it i guess i didn't really mind it either. The story in MGS1 left a bigger impression, it was a very simple story (except for like one twist) but a powerful one, the bosses were incredible and i'll never forget Sniper Wolf, or the character of Snake and how well he interacted with each character in that game, especially Otacon. I guess it was much more memorable, the ending with Meryl was cliche to the bone, but it was hella satisfying to see. This series, overall, is one of my favorites. Hell, i think i'll put this game in my GOAT games list.
They are hardly the same. But they are similar with stealth action focuses but other than that I guess my taste changed[QUOTE="danish-death"][QUOTE="p4s2p0"]
I lost intrest in metal gear when splinter cell came out.

Honestly I never liked MGS for the stealth gameplay. I only liked it because like every ten minutes you would get this nonsensical story and characterization through dialogue that looks like something you would only see in an anime, which I liked a lot at the time.
Splinter Cell is different(more like was with Conviction) it's all about the stealth in shadows unlike MGS.
Yes...i mean enough with Big Boss and Solid Snake, make something entirely new, a story about the Cobra Unit or a new game set several years after MGS4 and with a new cast or just create an entirely new universe.
Yes MGS has died IMO. Snake is dead and so the series should be too. I don't want endless sequels and remakes etc. with different characters and plots. The MGS world is already convoluted enough and Kojima himself can't keep track of it. Just leave it alone
Metal Gear Solid is my favourite franchise, so no. I can't wait to finally play Peace Walker on my Ps3, and the original two Metal Gear games from the MSX. Plus we got Rising coming out, game looks awesome.Randoggy
I'm with this guy ... Can't wait for Peace Walker, Rising, and finally getting my hands on the originals.
I was done with it after beating 4. The ending was silly.
mgs3>mgs1>>>>>mgs4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Big Rigs>mgs2
Pretty much the order of sillyness/ridiculousness contained. Besides the bosses I've felt they were for the most part amazing war/cold war stories. I felt that's the way it should be. 1 and 3 were amazing because the sci fi stuff was not the main point of those games. Those 2 stories did not center around the silly mgs sci fi lore. Those were about the characters, the terrors of war, of heroism and sacrifice. Sci fi in those 2 games was used merely as a tool for gameplay (to make bosses interesting and fun) or to move the real issues of the story along. Not the case for the later part of 4 and almost all of 2 where they become full on sci fi stories which does not work for me when the games start of relatively believable and mundane.
4 starts off amazing then they go full retard with the sci fi s***. Was in tears laughing my ass off during the Ocelot Snake fist fight because do they seriously expect me to take that seriously after the stupid bull they've been showing me for the last half hour? The way that scene plays out is hilarious too. Supposed to feel serious but it just comes off as unbelievably silly. It got worse after that with a stupid wedding thing. By then I didn't even care. Still not as bad as 2, though. God damn that game...
