Is God of War ps4 one of the best games of all time?

Or you wouldn't quite put it that high?

I know I'm late to the party but oh my god this game is blowing me away

Graphics: no need to explain, theres already a 1,000 + reply thread discussing how amazing it looks lol

Game play: Never judge a book by its cover, i thought this was a simple button masher but its a actually a action rpg with great progression and leveling systems its awesome and the combat is deep and AMAZING

I'd rank it as one of my favorite games on the Playstation 4; along with Horizon.

I'd put it up there, don't think any game is the best of all time really.

This gen? easily. Best game ever? needs more time. But do you know what is already one of the best of all time from this gen published by sony? its Bloodborne.

@Macutchi: what's holding it back from all time status? Only part that's confusing is the story, but its my first GOW and I know nothing of Norse mythology

It’s a good game, and possibly the best PS4 exclusive. To start saying it’s the best game of the generation, or all time is laughable.

Really loved the game but some issues keeps it from being a goat. The pace issues with Atreus story, already admitted by the developer, the two filler world and the repetition of enemy encounters. Still a great game.

In my top 30 most likely.

for me the repetition in enemy encounters, particularly bosses, was quite a big one. and i found the "open world" aspect tiring, but it may have just come at a bad time for me after a lot of open-world-with-side-quests kind of games.

loads of positives but one or two personal niggles that will stop it from being an all time fave for me. i'm due a replay soon so all that's subject to change

Never played it. Gameplay looks like a step above Witcher3 but that aint saying much.

Is it even the best hack and slash game of all time? Genuinely, it's contesting Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, DmC series and Bayonetta.

I'd say it more than has it's hand full in that competition ALONE.

I liked the story much better than the originals. The gameplay was also better than the originals. Where the others were superior was the epic boss fights. Some of the bosses were incredible, especially on PS2.

No. It's a good game. I would have given it a 9 I think. It ended a little abruptly imo. The characters were cool. Combat was fine. Exploration a bit minimalist. Didn't like the camera. Liked the presentation. Amount of content fine.

I really enjoyed it but I never once thought it elevated itself above other great games that I've played.

Same with The Last of Us. I know that there are people who feel similarly about that game and I thought it was great too, but not in a way that floored me. (I loooved the multiplayer though.)

I think it's definitely going to be one of the standouts once the whole generation is done. God of War will easily be among the top 10 or even top 5 games when PS4's lifespan is done. Other games it will sit comfortably with will also be: Bloodborne, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Spider-Man.

It sits right up next to my all time favorite PS4 game Horizon: Zero Dawn. God of War 4 was such an amazing game and I invest Kratos way more so and he's likable more then ever before. Santa Monica did a huge turn-around for the character and God of War franchise ditching from Greek to Norse was the right call. God of War 4 even beat RDR2 GOTY, that says alot.

It's the first game where Kratos isn't what an Xboxlive gamers thinks they are in their head.

None sociopathic traits like, empathy, responsibility and something approaching a conscience.

It's definitely up there with best PS4 game and best game of the generation. Even if it isn't your personal best PS4 game or best of the generation. It IS in the conversation for most people.

I'm sorry but while many games on this list are fantastic games, some of them are definitely products of their time like Tony Hawk. I seriously doubt there's a large collection of people that consider Tony Hawk 2 to be the greatest game of all time. Which is why I don't think we should look at review scores to determine the GOAT.

To me it looks like gaming journalism favors games with HUGE influence to their genre when considering a game to be GOAT. Super metroid has a game genre termed from it in Metroidvania, doom paved the way for all other FPS games, and Tetris is the STANDARD in what makes a good puzzle game.

While God of War PS4 is an amazing game, I don't think it paves the way or breaks new ground in game design like the other games in the above top ten lists. GOW refines and balances design in its respected genre, and does so with near perfection. But it's all elements we've seen in other games such as The Last of Us, Assassin's Creed, Dark Souls, and the previous God of War Games.

GOW doesn't make me scream THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING! GAMES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN! Like I said before, that's not a bad thing, GOW plays it safe by taking some of the best aspects of the previous and current generation and perfects it, but it doesn't take any risks or tries anything new. So while it may be the game of the Generation or best PS4 game, I don't think we are going to look back on GOW 10 years from now and be like GOAT.

Basically my list in that order.

It's super good, but it has some issues. I thought it didn't do enough to incentivize the player to do side quests beyond the main story. Because of that, the main story felt way too short. Then, when I was doing side stuff after finishing the story, the Atreus dialog during some of those bits was clearly meant to be heard before the last few events of the main story. Made for a weird disconnect.

Also, the difficulty scaling is a bit much, especially in NG+. The jump from "give me a balanced experience" to "give me a challenge" is HUUUGE. In the early portions of NG+, on "balanced", I can pretty much blindly button mash through any encounter, and barely even worry about dodging or parrying, because enemy attacks do so little damage. If I actually use combos and runic attacks, fights are over in seconds. Bump it up to "challenge", and even a small squad of like three draugr requires several minutes of flawlessly executing combos and parrying, and just about any enemy attacks take half my health in one hit. Neither of those extremes are much fun for me. I'd like a setting in between them, closer to the "challenge" level, but just not quite that far.

No way in Helheim is the GoW reboot one of the greatest of all time. Good game, but highly overrated. 8/10 from me. BOY!

Hmm, I wasn't really a fan of GoW3. I played around 6 hours and became extremely bored. Might mean I won't be a huge fan of the new one.

Nah, the funniest part was you arguing with everyone that GoW doesn't have any flaws even though you've never played it. Now THAT'S funny.

I agree with this. Excellent outing, and the change in gameplay worked out well, but to rank it amongst the best of all time? Nah.

Not just the Shadows, the vegetation is also flawed the first time I notice it when this game launch last year!

1 out of 5. It doesn't even retread the God of War formula well. It is, in my experience, probably the worst entry in its franchise. And its franchise isn't exactly that memorable.

It's a good PS4 game but I don't consider it one of the best games of all time.

Dont see anything and not really; gow4 is nothing like the prior games i dont see how thats playing it safe. Visually it is far better in design than those pc games with copy/paste photographic textures. Things are more carefully laid out in God of War.
