I'm gameplay, I'll agree. In everything else, not a chance.

Well, I can't say as I haven't played them but I remember being impressed by the visuals of GoW3 when I saw it in trailers.
Still, I really don't play those sort of games for the story. The last thing on my mind when playing through the Bayonetta games was the plot because I was more interested in the levels and mechanics.
I was making the comparison that having the best story in a genre of games known for not focusing on story is just a pretty easy accolade to achieve, no? :P

Yeah I notice that with him, he'll make threads like this, I guess he sees not many people tend to agree with him and he'll never say anything else in his own thread lol.
Solid's threads are a hit or a miss, this thread is leaning towards miss! I guess he's trying to be Charizard1605 wannabe.
@ermacness: Yeah and that's where it matters most, the gameplay is a lot better. I also think the old Dante has a lot of charm but yeah God of War has better production values.
I'm going to make some declarations before Inget to my point so folks don't try to call me a Cow again
- I'm a PS4 Pro owner
- I have stated many times that the PS4 is the best console hardware and software wise this generation
- in my opinion the Xbox One AND Wii U have been disasters
System Wars is so far up Sonys ass it's sickening. God of War the most successful hack and slash franchise? What the hell are you all smoking? Theyre not the best critically or commercially. So how we can come to the conclusion that it's the most successful is beyond me.
Oh wait! God of War is exclusive to Sony platforms. That's why!
I'm not a fan. Ninja Gaiden seems way better. Hack'n'slash games usually bore me, so it probably needs to be challenging, like NG, to be fun for me. Then again, I really don't like Bayonetta, so it would probably be best for me to just stay away from the genre altogether.
If what I like = success, then yeah, I'll agree with this. I hated the DMC series, loved Ninja Gaiden, CL LoS, and Bayonetta. But yeah, if I had to pick one to be my favorite (and that's really what we're doing here, yeah?) I'll go with God of War.

Lol at least Char responds to any criticism that pops up in any thread he makes. He doesn't make a thread and never have a rebuttal to things said in his thread.

Thanks definitely true. I make one and put it on cruise control.
It's def my favourite. Best aesthetics and very meaty in the right ways. Kratos is funny as hell. Lots and lots of memorable moments. One of the best franchises out there. Not so sure about the direction of the new one (even though the line: "I'm hungry, feed us!" was promising :) ).
It's the most successful but out of the hack N slash games i've played, they are bottom rung.
They can't compete in terms of gameplay quality with
-Devil May Cry 3
-Devil May Cry 4
-DMC Devil May Cry
-Bayonetta
-Bayonetta 2
-Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
I think as overall products, God of War games are definitely the best made ones, sure. That said, the franchise has been in a state of precipitous decline since God of War II/Chains of Olympus, and I really hope that the upcoming game can change that.
In terms of actual mechanics, God of War is pretty shallow next to the other entrants in the genre. Then again, I don't actually hold that against it, because the franchise has never once claimed to be equivalent to Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

lol well gee, I don't answer it within 10 minutes and now I'm a-hole? Also, I do have a job ya know. And also also, the thread title is a question, not a statement.
@jg4xchamp:
In the genre of hack n slash, which game have a better story than GOW?
None of them, they are all usually super cheesy n dumb, in comparison to God of War 1. My displeasure for Kratos aside, that first game actually tells something that can be seen as a greek tragedy so it might be the closest thing to a good story in the genre. The fallacy God of War fans ignore is that just because God of War is best at something, doesn't inherently mean its good. The story for 2 and 3 is stupid. Homeboy gets told numerous times to quit being an asshole by like 3 different people or else Zeus will punish him, Zeus punishes him, and then he goes on the biggest murder spree and ass fucks the planet. Which lazy people will say "yeah because he's an anti-hero", except he's not, at all. The third game has you focusing the walking plot device pandora only to say that Zeus went psycho, and hope was in Kratos because you know, the guy who ass fucked the planet, that guy has hope in him.
It's so preposterous in how much bs it got away with, under this false pretense of "best story in the genre". And all things considered Kratos is an asshole who had everything awful happen to him, because he was an asshole, even in the first game. And at no point has he learned anything from it. The best thing about him is that his gameplay matches him as a character: angry, but that's a fairly paper thin character.
"well champ my interpretation of the character"
Sorry, the writing doesn't back your interpretation of the character. If anything it wants to go against the idea that you're playing some asshole villain.
I'd much rather play as the cheeky characters of Dante n Bayonetta, since they are in it for the same reasons I am: to have some fun. Plus The Wonderful 101 is actually fairly clever (actually I take it back, given how well thought most of the humor is in that game, it's probably the best thing the genre has done in that department). God of War pretends to be smarter than it is, but it's outclassed by Swat Kats.
I've never actually played a GoW. Closest I played on my YouTube channel is Batman Arkham Knight.....but thats not so similar :/ But its on the list - ill have to pick one up!
Play GOW3 cuz its Remastered on the PS4 and its usually on sale for like $15-20

The PS3 version is cheaper and comes with 3-5 games.
yeah but who the hell wants to play through GOW1 and 2 today?, not even worth it since the story is pretty simple.
I as a GOW didnt wouldnt recommend going back and playing the old games.
@jg4xchamp:
Oh man, I completely forgot about The Wonderful 101. The narrative may not be anything new but the writing was hilarious.
If I had one major complaint though,it's that the plot centers around Luka too much. Luka is beyond irritating and having him as such an integral part of the plot was a pain.

You're nuts. I never played GOW:COO untill June 2016 thanks to PS+ that month (or was it July?)and it was fun.
Last month I re-played GOW1 for the 1st time since 2006. Still fun.
