The only FPS I like is UT2k4...it's the only one that was and still is funnnnnn
I rarely like other shooters....but Golden eye was good for its time..but I think Half Life deserves the best fps title overall.
I think it is. Hope they don't take the rumble feature out when they release it on the Wii VC.rogue_leader_5
I think it is.
No I still think Perfect Dark N64 was the best FPS has the highest rated FPS score on gamespot 9.9
Perfect Dark was pretty much was everything goldeneye plus more even having golden eye maps ect.
goldeneye was just good for console players
since PC FPS are 100x better than goldeneye (quake 1 and 2 back then)
Gears360
Quake 2 was/is crap
The first one was excellent though.
And as for the whole pc vs console fps thing well if you were any good and a skilled fps gamer you'd enjoy and master them no matter what they were on.
No, it was the greatest shooter of ITS time. It is not a time-tested game because of the rapid evolution of the FPS genre. And the rapid evolution of the FPS genre only came about because developers flooded the market with FPS games, most of which aren't worth playing. There are games from the N64 era that are still playable by today's standards: Goldeneye is not one of them, however.ZebethOrZebes
That is what I meant.

wash your mouth before saying that Quake 2 is crap, it had a GIGANTIC fanbase deathmatching and capturing the flag for years
Still i think that the pinnacle of multiplayer FPS is UNREAL TOURNAMENT CTF
Hermits like to think PC is best for FPS, but the fact is Goldeneye is the highest rated FPS of all time along with Perfect dark on Gamespot, Gamerankings. Sorry hermits but console FPS > PC FPS.
The review scores don't lie, when Crysis scores 9.8 on Gamespot then we talk. Until then Perfect dark > Crysis.
Perfect Dark > Golden Eye. I was so naive back then because wasn't Half-Life out then? The controls for those games are really bad because there is no center aim it has the swivel hand aiming deal. If the cross hair stayed in the center of the screen it would have aged better. I always changed the control set up to Joystick = aim and C-Buttons = WASD.BlackbondYeah I did the same, and i'ts better than dual analog to me. :) C-Buttons to walk was much closer to WASD than using the analog.

You can also strafe faster then you can run. That made the technique strafe walking easier with this setup.

Yeah, if you walked in diagonal, you could get them very fast
My friends were all "But, how do you run so fast!?"

I'm not even going to reply to such a stupid remark. According to your logic then, consoles are superior to arcades with fighting games?
Goldeneye was amazing for it's time. But even medicore shooters released today have better gameplayqeadI disagree. Shooters even today suffer from super human enemies that can sense you when they shouldn't, and they dont have a very advanced shot placement system. Shooting russians in different body parts did different reactions. Go for the head and you might shoot his hat off instead. I sincerely hope you at least think that those EA bond games are very much worse, including that retarded "Goldeneye" game where you're character has an machine eye made of gold. Pathetic.
oh and an aside. Goldeneye's controls still stand up. Sure it has limitations, but the c buttons are an excellent strafe and tilt system because you almost never accidentally look at you feet. Also, the enemies are designed with the limitations in mind, so I dont see the problem. If anything the delays in reaction was a realistic touch, and it allowed your mind to catch up with your trigger.
not only one of the best it is possibly the best.
it made terrain and setted the standards for todays FPS.
While obviously by today's standards Goldeneye's graphics and gameplay aren't exactly groundbreaking, the same can be said about any classic game. The thing that makes Goldeneye unique to me (and one of the best FPS ever) is its sense of atmosphere. The level design in the game is very strong (limited again only by the graphics), and the additional objectives on higher difficulties are something that add a lot to the game, and that even today, a lot of FPS games don't have (I'm looking at you, Halo). Finally, I personally felt that the music in the game was absolutely perfect for the atmosphere they were trying to portray. Would I rather have a next-gen remake with better graphics? Sure. But until then, I'm more than happy to settle for the N64 version (or God willing, the VC or Xbox Live version)...SeanBond
exactly, console FPS are ruined by Halo's simplistic design and impact on the industry. IF consoles still had games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, I wouldnt have a problem with console gaming. Dont you lemmings bring up PDZ, that game was the most pathetic piece of crap I have ever played.
It was good for its time, but after playing shooters mainly on PC the N64 controls were hard to get used to. C buttons for movement with analog to aim was the best way for me to play.
It was a great CONSOLE shooter, for its time, but PC shooters tore it up.
Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3d, Quake, Hexen, Blood...
I thought so up until a couple weeks ago. Then I tried it again on my buddys emulator and it kind of ruined it for me.tcc024
lol? Emulator? I have it on 64 and emu. And I rarely play it on emu. The controls never are the same.
Anyway the greatest shooter of all time for me is either Perfect Dark or Halo. Probably PD64.

O NO HE DIDNT JUST SLATE QUAKE 2.
quake 2 is one of my fav shooters :(
goldeneye is still legendary
Goldeneye is one of the most overrated shooters of our time. It was good back in the day because it was on consoles.
Only N64 console sheep would proclaim is to be the best or "One of the best" shooters ever. It's not even comparable to games like Doom, Quake 2, Half-Life, and yes even Halo is far superior. I could go back and play through all of these games, I can't do the same with Goldeneye.
When I look back at it, the most redeeming part was MP. The rest was mediocre gameplay mechanics, horrible graphics, and AI. It's only touted by console sheep with no other past influences before that.
the godfather of console fps
wat a game, and if there was no golden eye there would be no halo and that would be loose

No, Halo is far supior to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The controls alone are crippling compared to it, not to mention Halo's SP and MP are also far superior.

Halo catered to the casual. PD catered to the hardcore. PD has so much more depth than Halo series could ever dream of having. Plus the guns in PD are so much better. Of course, when speaking of depth, Dues Ex always owns everything in the FPS department. But still PD > Halo. Sorry. And if you are THAT much of a baby when it comes to controls where you can throw out one of the greatest and most influential games of all time, then I really feel sorry for you. You need better taste. Halo was great but was garbage compared to others in the industry. I partially blame Halo for the crap that is the modern console FPS.
