Just how bad nosedive do you think the franchise took with the disastrous launch of Master Chief Collection?

Now Halo 5 is nowhere to be found among top 10 most anticipated games anywhere, which is shocking considering Bloodborne which is a staple there, is a niche title compared to it.

Do you think Microsoft and 343 blew it for good?

Halo 5 is the last chance. If they blow it, all bets are off. They'll leave Disaster Chief Collection broken as a consequence. It's a shame, I liked Halo 1 and 2.

Still know next to nothing about Halo 5 but the beta seemed to have gone over well.

its been on downhill slide since halo reach, maybe even halo 3 but at least that was still a good game. h4 was trash but h5 is step in right direction. i will only buy it if br/ar starts are in team slayer otherwise they can **** off

halo wont be as big as it was last gen though, gears is going to curb stomp it

FPS's in general are starting to become tired, but Halo isn't disgraced yet, more like in limbo.

Before everyone gave Halo the benefit of doubt of being great (see MCC hype thread lems saying it's gonna get a 10 lol), now, they (343) are actually going to have to prove that there is something special/great about the game to get the hype back.

It's not that people don't care about Halo anymore, it's that they aren't putting blind trust in it like they used to.

We haven't seen anything of the campaign which is probably why. Even Uncharted 4 has shown single player footage. Usually the hype really builds after a campaign trailer or demo.

I doubt. Never played Halo on Xbox One, but Halo 4 (first 343i game) was a great game! In my opinion, far better than any Bungie game after Halo 3..

I agree. I'm still looking forward to it, but I question my sanity after having bought MCC day 1 and still have trouble getting into Coop.

I've only played couple of matches MP, and I suck at it, and I definitely don't want to put in the time to get better again. Single Player Halo MCC is amazing, trying to finish everything on Legendary ain't that difficult, it just takes a lot of time. I mostly do 40-60min per level. But to answer your question, no it didn't lose it's mojo.

No it has a place in history. It's the first franchise MS ever threw money at to get the xbox up and running.

Some of the better titles are pretty decent FPS games too.

1-3 were good, 4 was decent, mcc was a huge disaster, so yeah their quality is declining, halo 5 will either save the franchise or be the nail in the coffin.

It's definitely on the down swing. It'll still get media attention and sell a lot, but as one of the top tier franchises it hasn't really been that status for awhile now. Plus if we're being really honest, a lot of Halo's status as a top tier franchise was frankly bullshit. Franchise hasn't had a good campaign since 01, multiplayer wise they peaked at 2.

Halo 4 killed most peoples love for the franchise, then 343 just eased the transition into full on disdain with the broken collection.

Honestly, resistance will probably be a bigger seller at this point.

I had few problems with MCC so that doesn't drag it down for me. I understand many did and if that is enough to give them some sort of feeling oh well. I am looking forward to Halo 5, and my DLC ODST. I don't care what the franchise is seen as or what it once was. I enjoy the games, same with Uncharted, GoW, Gears, etc

The short answer is NOPE, it ain´t in disgrace yet, people are too harsh or too romantic about the "vintage" Halo deliveries, out of all the series my least favorite is H2, haven´t played Wars ( and I´m not interested ), I´ve only played a little ODST and it´s been good so far.

If, and it's a very big IF here, Halo 5 doesn't turn out decent (which honestly seems unlikely), maybe we can say the franchise lost it's shine (Halo 4 + Halo MCC + a bad Halo 5 would be a 3 game streak with mixed reception).

However, I think Halo 5 will likely turn out ot be a good/great game thus most of the "bad memories" of the past 2 entries will likely be "forgotten" by most. Time will tell I suppose.

Right now, I think it's a bit too soon to claim Halo is disgraced.

Halo 5 will be the test. If that game is great all will be forgotten about the MCC. If they fail on Halo 5 I can see Phil showing up to terminate people.

I think after the last two 343 releases, 343 still has a chance with Halo 5 but they have lost some fans along the way. However, the M$ marketing machine will be up and running all year to promote Halo 5. On the plus side, they did a beta for it.

Not yet, but I won't buy Halo 5 on day one. MCC was a huge mess and it still has it's issues. If Halo 5 is messed up at launch, the franchise is dead to me. I'll have the memories of the early games, and I'll just remember it for those games.

Im confident in the gameplay of Halo 5 after the beta, but I doubt the campaign will be anywhere near as good as 1-Reach. Halo 4 had such a bad story and the level and enemy design was quite sad.

Well, I thought 343 was definitely no Bungie after playing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 4. Wasn't horrible or anything but wasn't that good either. And despite the shape of the MCC, which I really had no issue with myself as I've never been big on Halo MP, I was disappointed with their decision to have that on the fly switch between old graphics and enhanced graphics with the Halo games. Without this they probably could have squeezed out greater visual fidelity. But, they've had some time with the franchise now, and MCC was probably a lot to do while at the same time trying to get out Halo 5. Hopefully issues with MCC stem from just trying to do too much with games that all probably have their own various code and having to troubleshoot for it all. Hopefully, on the technical side, Halo 5 is more solid, I'm not too worried about that myself. What I am most concerned about though is can they make a game worthy of carrying the Halo torch. Who knows what the future holds for the Halo franchise. Maybe Destiny is done or will be and Bungie employees will start scuttling back to work at 343 to work in safe territory.

Campaign-wise I don't think the awe of the original Bungie trilogy will be matched again. 4 felt "off", maybe it was those awful bland boring as hell new enemies or linearity; lacking the bigger open battlefields of earlier games.

Never mind Microsoft "red ringing" The Master Chief Collection http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131120001458/elderscrolls/images/f/f0/Facepalm.gif

I would still buy Halo 5 on day one if I owned a Bone.

@FastRobby: They totally botched the story. So many feels with the whole Cortana storyline, but it was so poorly written. Bungie's Halos weren't legendary in the storytelling department, but at least they could write with some fucking subtext and understand how to illicit a proper emotional response. 4's writing felt very straight-to-video by comparison.

What the hell is a disgraced franchise? Lol. I think you're describing Haze, MAG, Killzone and Resistance, all Sony FPS games that never really took off into anything like Halo and I don't think Sony will ever have a shooter franchise that will reach Halo status. Sony has disgraced the shooter genre. As for the Master Chief collection, the issues were just technical issues. 343 pretty much patched them and hats off to them for trying to update classics. Just like with any remake, gameplay mechanics might not be up to par to what current gamers are use to. Remakes pretty much are aimed for those who are already fans more than trying to get new fans. I'm still waiting to see more from Halo 5 so I can't really say much. But one thing for sure, Bungie handed Halo into good hands after all the hate Destiny received.

The MCC is still a broke piece of shit after 3 months and the player base abandoned it except the loyal pros. Halo 4 was the lowest rated and least popular game in the series. The Halo 5 beta played more like Advanced Warfare than a Halo game.

The series is done.

MS needs to make Gears their top priority now and hope Black Tusk does a good job.

Hmm, it didn't feel like that to me at all. I liked the fact that Cortana sacrificed herself for Master Chief and the emotional way, Halo is going for. In Halo 1 for example (most fresh in memory) it was just saving the human race and being a hero, everything was properly explained why we did what, but there weren't any emotions involved.

I believe that Halo 4 was a good learning experience for 343i, and they'll go all out with Halo 5. But more importantly, they gave more body to Master Chief, it's not just a super-soldier shooting and saving the world, we are getting a better insight in his emotions towards all the things he has done, and the effects it had on his surroundings (Cortana "dying" for example). And this was just the build up to a identity crisis for the Master Chief, and I'm actually looking forward to what they'll do with this
